Light Green and Dark Green Class Flowers............................Carnations Friday Evening May 24, 1974 8:00 O'clock jt i s t o The following is a bunch of mixed up memories from past school years. The story you are about to hear is true: the names haven't been changed because nobody's innocent! As our story ODens we find the class of ?U buys performing the difficult tasks, which Mrs. Schrupp has assigned them on their first day of Kindergarten. In the far comer we find Chery Haug picking away. Oh yes, it seems Chery1 s favorite pasttime is ripping fuzzballs off of furry blankets during naptime. Hey! Who just streaked across the room! Oh, its o.k., its only Jack Breitkreutz running around with his cool cop hat on.(But thats not all of course.) As you stand wide-eyed and in shock, you can barely make out the other members of the class which am Greg T., Brad M., K®vin 7., .Tar® G., LuAnr. S., Mik® B., Tom H., Kara K., Greg K., Phil S., Pat F., Ch®ry H., Kathy F., Sharlene B., Jack B., Kathy N., Linda M., Deb M., Ted Ruter, Bonnie Zylstra, Lynnette Yock, Harold Goblish, Randy Zimm®r, Scott Solheira, Joyce Standfuss, Terrry Roschild, Phyllis Horejsi, Stewert Schmidt, Meanwhile, back at Roseland, we find Verdell® Hoogheem hanging around. On a clothesline in fact. But not for long! There sh® lays, broken arm and all! Well, many years have passed away. Literally!! The Roseland gang has recently infiltrated the Danube fifth grade. Among this group we find: Robin D., Pam H., Anna L., Randy G., Jodi P. LeAnn G., Dal® S., Jacki® K., Verdelle H. Mary Moje. Anyway, now that we are fifth graders the boys realize that the girls exist! The gang war begins and the battle rages on. Wait! A new development! Mrs. Smith has just called the girls together for a top secret meeting! Guys are puszled-or so w® think. It is decided a truce will be made. The list of casualties has been posted for the past year. They are: Pam H., Perry H., Greg T., Greg K., Mik® B., K®vin Z., Tom H., Dal® S., LuAnnsS., Sharon K., Jack B., Phil S., Randy G., Ed S., LeAnn G., Kathy F., Deb M., Jodi P., Patty F. Anna L , Jackie K., Pam H., Linda M., Kara K., Sharlene B., Jane G., Chery H. Robin D.Brad M., Kathy N., V®rdell® H., Randy Zimmer, Ted Ruter. Doug Procniak, Stewert Schmidt, Harold Goblish, Karen Kane, Scott Solhetm, Phlayne Ailts, Terry Roschild. But things have Livened up a bit and it is now the year 1968. We have just become scared little seventh graders. In seventh grade we find the great rip off- it seems Brad Mvers got a hold of Verdelle Hoogheem's nylons. This occurred right before our class officers-Pnes.-Phlayne Ailts,, V. Pres.-Brad Myers, Treas.-Terry R., and Sec.- Sharon Kaven decided that we would go rollerskating for our class party. Now that we seventh graders have finally gotten our lockers open we can now get our coats and go home for summer vacation! Our junior high years have passed slowly but surely and finally we are Freshmen. (But, before w® move ahead-Say, AHHH Jackie, have you seen any Braun dogs lately??) Our ninth grade president this year is Terry Roschild. This was our year to shine during Homecoming or so we thought. Our float slogan was better this year because on® time it was Boil'Em Over so naturally we had a pot whose handle was two times the size it was originally planned to be. We won't even m®ntion our skit. The only good thing this year was Deb Maurice-She was our first uom®coming attendant. The only r®ally other big event was our annual rollerskating oarty to Spicer. Tenth grade has finally arrived-much to our surprise of course-for we all managed.to survive. (So far) We have really moved ud in the world! This year we not only nicked a prince and a princess for Homecoming (who were Sharon Kaven and Phil Standfuss) but we even got to decorate the goal posts! This y®ar we broke tradition-Instead of going rollerskating it was decided to have no party at all. As ninth graders we got to pick only one class for ourselves, but this year was much different—yes, now we have three class to choose from-of course the rest are assigned. The greatest fun we had this year was dancing in Phy. Ed., but it turned out to be sad news, for we realized there was no hope for the guys. That wasn't the only pro- blem! Kevin Zaske was still the Head of the class. Before we knew it, eleventh grade was upon us and so were many new activities. On® improvement in school was the idea of having a student, faculty forum. This was a battle of wits between students and tachers. At this forum they used to hold contests to see who could hold his temper the longest. Homecoming rolled around again and we still didn't win anything, but I must say our float Pink the Panthers has improved since the one we had in 8th. grade! You should have seen it! Our slogan was Dial V for Victory and we had the neatest telephone with a red dial and a purple fringed receiver. We thought it looked great, but the judges are still in shock and getting treatments for severe coronary trouble. Anyway, this year our attendants were Jodi Pennings and Dale Slagter. In spring, Jodi was also elected Pr®s. of the Student Council, and Jane Goldhammer, V. Pres. Their main goal was to get the boys lavatory door shut. Yes, it seems with the open door policy the girls were Aired of watching the boys comb their hair in front of the lav. mirrors. Enough of that. Now to the year we had all been striving for. We became big tough seniors. This was a great year-especially our class trip to Washington, D.C. The best part was the bus ride—Such outbursts would be heard such as : Who cut the chees? or Wow, Man! or Hey, Look at the Combine! Every 5 minutes you'd hear- Are we to Cleveland yet? When do w® change buses? By the time we got to Washington we could hardly move our necks let alone walk out of the bus, but it was an experience in itself! Oh, we had such good buses-in fact, only 3 of them broke down-not bad considering we only had 5 buses! Our class this year consists of:Para H., Mina K., Tora H.,. Ed S., Dale S., Randy G., Kathy N., Jackie K., Jack B., Deb M., Linda M., Jane G., Kara K., Kevin S., Kevin Z., Verdelle H., Brad M., LuAnnaS., Wayne 0., Pam H., Anna L., LeAnn G., Sharon K., Mike B., Sharlene B., Chery H., Brian J., Connie T., GrOg K., Robin D., Greg T., Peg S., Knthy N., Perry H., Jodi P. We can't forget our senior pictures (which gave most members of the class a bad case of writers cramp) and Homecoming! We finally did it! Our skit and float won first prize! Our float slogan was Skin the Ba rs. Anna Lippert was crowned our new queen and Phil Standfuss was elected as the new king. Well, its been a great twelve years and now all of us have one things to say: LOOK OUT WORLD. HERE WE COME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!t! 11!!! 1111111111111111! 11111! 1111111111111111! ” WILL During our past 13 years of schooling we have each gained special talents and accomplishments which we feel would be most beneficial if passed on to others. I really did need a rest for I had just finished putting up an addition in the shop, which will accomodate a new line of sneakers for streakers. As I didn't v ant to go on a vacation by myself, I called up my old friend, Kathy Mere. Kathy is now the head nurse at the Danube Medical Center and she was also due for a vacation. She has been kept quite busy lately with an epidemic of dysentary. We decided that it would be fun to take a Greyhound Bus trip to Washington, D.C.. We wanted to see if the city had changed any and at the same time we could look up some of our old classmates. As we entered the bus, v ho did we see but our old friend Verdelle Hoogheem, who is now a designer for Greyhound Buses. She said that after her bus ride to Wash- ington back in 197 +, she came to the conclusion that there just has to be more room in the luggage racks for turning around. While talking with Verdelle we learned that her two friends, Fam Kiss- inger and LeAnn Gort are now the new owners of the Palms Ballroom at Renville where they do a thriving business. Another of our classmates working in Renville is Linda Molenaarf who owns her own cafe there. Our first stop on our trip was in Chicago where we did some sight seeing. While walking down the street we ran into another old classmate, Chery Kaug. Chery told us that she is now campaigning for the office of National FHA President. She feels that she is well qualified for this job as she was FHA President in High School. Chery also told us that she is using her Betty Crocker ability to help out an old friend, Parr. Hoekstra, who is now married and has 9 kids. Pam is finding it quite difficult raising 9 kids in their trailor house. After a day in Chicago we hopped back on the bus and continued with our trip. Our next stop was Cleveland where we changed buses. As we waited in the bus depot, I thought I heard a familiar Squeaky laugh. I turned around and sure enough, there stood our old friend, Jackie Knapner. I asked Jackie what she was doing in Cleveland and she, said that she is still searching for her luggage which was misplaced v hile switching buses back in 197 + on our class trip. Jackie also said that she had recently heard from another of our classmates, Jane Goldhammer. Jane is now working at the Redwood Falls Hospital as a nurses aid. I wonder who she spends most of her time aiding? 3y this time we were quite hungry so we went over t to the Pizza Hut to eat. Imagine our surprise when we saw the chief pizza maker, for it was Wayne Olson. Wayne said- that he kept quite busy these days making little pizzas. As we talked with him we learned that Ed Schroeder is working down in Florida. It seems that Ed has started the first Air Force Base located in a swamp. Continuing with our journey we soon came to Washington, D.C. Of course, while we were there we stayed at the Harrington Hotel. Did you know that Dale Clagter is working there as a custodian? Dale told us that he is still having difficulty with cleaning under the beds. That evening we dined at the Burn Brae Dinner Theatre outside of Washington. When we got there we found that the name had been changed to Chips Placet' We knew why when we saw the chef, our old friend, Greg Krueger. Two of our other classmates also work there. They are Robin Dragt and Jodi Pennings who have top billing there with a song and dance act. The crowd really seemed to enjoy their show. Our next stop was New York City. ’While there we ran into Kathleen Filzen. Kathleen is now an ace reporter for the New York Times. She was very excited because she had just received a story about a big robbery that had taken place. It seems that the robbers had been apprehended by the New York City Chief of Folice, Greg Tepfer, and his able assistant, Anna Lippert. Anna asked us if we had heard what Sharon Kay or. is doing. It seems that Sharon is now the owner of a Skippy Peanut Butter franchise on the '.lest Coast. Jack Breitkreutz is using his accounting abilities to help her out in the business. Nov it was time to head back to Danube. On the way v e stopped in Indiana at the Indianapolis Speedway. We bought tickets for the race after hearing that Mike Bruns was one of the drivers. Of course he wonI Mike informed us that another of our classmates is also in the rabing business. Kevin Schr.ieder had just set a world record with a new motorcycle he invented called, The Spider. By the race track v e saw a hot dog stand so we stopped and what do you know? There we saw Brad Myers. Brad was passing out a new type of hot dog-dipped in wine sauce. Back on the road again, v e happened to look out our window and what did we see but a Buffalo herd. We looked to the front of the herd and there was our old friend, Philip Standfuss. Phil seemed to be enjoying himself, roaming the prairie. We passed a huge bill- board advertising a new business. It said, Kevin Zaske-HEAD of the Try to Find a Date Computer Dating Service. I wonder how Kevin is doing in his new business. Next we stopped in Springfield, Minnesota where we saw another of our classmates, Connie Tersteeg. Connie is now the wife of a ric rich banker. As we rolled into Danube we saw the police car parked on the corner with Perry Hass- ir.ger behind the wheel. Perry told us that he has decided if you can't beat'em, you might as well join'em. Right Perry? We couldn't seem to locate Brian Jones so we asked Perry about him. He said that Brian is making alot of money these days doing centerfolds for Cosmopolitan magazine. It was quite a hot day so we decided to go out to Kandiyohi lake. V hile there we saw LuAnn Schafer. LuAnn was busy teaching her 3 children how to swim-just like fish. LuAnn told us that she had recently heard from Sharlene 3ratsch. Sharlene is now working in Willmar as a pre-marriage coun- selor. We also found that our old classmate Randy Gort is working in Danube. Randy is now head of the city's Utilities Dept. Does this include the water tower, Randy? Fatty Frank also works in Danube and it seems that she is quite active in the Womens Lib Movement. She has become the first woman lineman to work for the REA. While we were walking through downtown Danube v e ran into Kara Kramin. Kara is now working as a conservation expert at Ramsey Park. We also saw Tom Hayek. Tom is quite busy these days as he is a part time farmer, truck driver and the owner of Green Giant. We couldn't seem to locate our classmate Maina Kivviko when we asked about her we found that she ha had returned to Finland and is now conducting tours there. Our last stop was at DHA. When we went in the first person we saw was Peg Savig. Peg has taken over Mr. Accola's job as counselor. As we left she was running down the hall after a student saying, This will only take a minute. We were glad to see that our class had all fullfilled their lifetime ambitions, since we last seen them in 197 +.
