Q--lx-sx A MESSAGE FROM OUR BE LOVED ALMA MATER AVE you ever wondered what it is like to be a school? Well, say it's Monday morn- ing. After a whole weekend of silence, it is pretty cruel to be jolted suddenly by a shrieking bell. Then I get my first glimpse of the eager faces of the D. C.H.S. students. THAT'S EAGER? There is a burst of chatter, a clang of lockers, and a stampede of feet heading for homerooms. Another bell. . . quiet again. . .Here comes a late sleeper. The attendance secretary gets a visitor, who hasn't come to see her at all but just to get a tardy slip. Another bell sets the ball rolling for the hard grind of the morning classes. Such comments as We just had a doozy of a History test, Do you have a topic for your term paper? and My goodness, an explosion in the Chemistry lab, can be heard as the stu- dents pass from class to class. At eleven fifty-eight comes the big rush. The California Gold Rush had nothing on my students when it is time to eat. After lunch I can hear com- ments such as, I simply can't do this math, Wasn't that a beautiful song we sang in Girls' Glee Club? , and Did you hear the violinist who was flat all period in Orchestra? Finally the day comes to an end with the sounding of another bell. Oh, well, this one brings peace. As the last sound of chatter, slamming of lockers, and rushing feet dies away, I settle down to rest until it is time to rise and house my students again. Dansville Central High School 2 --S .JS Fwfewam' UST as every school or college has its yearbook, Dansville Central High School has its Danua. This presentation has been designed to recall to mind the memories of the years we have spent in high school, which we feel are The Best Years of Our Lives. It is the hope of the staff of this yearbook that the following pages will reflect the spirit of our time which is the foundation of our Alma Mater. I trust that as you recall your four years at Dansville Central High School, you will be reminded of your responsibili- ties. The responsibility of contributing to a world harassed by international problems. The responsibility of not only continually striving to increase your skills and abilities, but to achieve higher goals .... growth of character, an appreciation of personal success and ambition, analysis of personal motivation, and a broadened outlook. You leave us with confidence .... with a real understanding that the world needs your contributions. You have much to accomplish. We will live our lives apart, but we are knitted together with friendship and loyalty to our school. 7 lst Row: Miss B. Benson, Mrs. D. Cook, Mrs. D. DeLong, Mr, F. Covert, Mr. L. Bradley, Mr. A. As Freshmen, we elected Don Quibell to be our President, Jack Kiehle, Vice-President, Norma Furst, Secretary, and Marjorie Conklin, Treasurer. Our major project of the year was our sweater dance which was an overwhelming success. Our Sophomore year found William Carpenter as President, Donald Quibell as Vice-Pres- ident, Phyllis Banker as Secretary, and Paul Moore as Treasurer. Our movie benefit was the highlight of the year, owing to the fact that we hit an almost perfect sales record, leaving only two tickets unsold. Our sale of coke and our sweater dances gave our treasury a good start for our Senior Trip. We were led through an extremely successful Junior year by Donald Quibell in the roll of President, Charles Wolf as Vice-President, Lois Kiefer, Secretary, and Merrilee Kiehle, Treasurer. Our sponsorship of the Faculty Play, You Can't Take It With You offered us en- joyment and experience, as well as boosting our treasury. Sweater dances and our Pre-Prom- Prance set the pace for our social highlight of the year, our Junior Prom, where we answered the age-old question, How Deep Is The Ocean? As we embarked on our last year in D.C. H.S. , our Senior year, we chose as our leaders Don Hall, President, Merrilee Keihle, Vice-President, Norma Furst, Secretary, and Don Qui- bell, Treasurer. Our first major project was our magazine drive, where we broke allD.C.I-I. sales records by obtaining a total of'S6, 005. 75 in subscriptions. Next came our Senior Play, The Little Dog Laughed, starring Donna Luce and directed by Miss O'Neil. Our advertising for the play won us first prize in the Halloween parade. Without time to relax we became en- grossed in the annual picture project of individual shots of each student and Danua photos. As Christmas approached, so came the time for our Senior Ball with its theme Silver Bells. Norma Furst and Harold Gibson were chosen as royalty to preside over the affair. After Christmas vacation we began in earnest, work on our Danua. For the next two months the Staff headed by Jane Mader worked feverishly to publish a memorable yearbook. With the yearbook at the printers, and Easter vacation close at hand we became excited about our Trip. With a wonderful Washington trip behind us, we began to settle down and think of the nearing goal of the Best Years of our lives--Graduation. As we don our caps and gowns to leave the security of our Alma Mater, we wish to express our gratitude to our advisors, Miss Magavero, the Faculty and all of the wonderful people who have helped us reach our goal. img -xkqlii J -.i--.-- LJ+-Y. High School Intramurals NTRAMURALH is derived from the Latin words ..... intra and mums meaning within walls. Competition seems to be engrained into the makeup of the people of today. One may compete against oneself, another or others. One may compete alone, or with a group or team. So in our sports of today we have various types of competition for participants. One of these types of competition for girls is shown in the Intramural program in Dansville Central. The program tries to offer various types of sports: team and individual, outdoor and indoor, some strenuous and others of a less strenuous nature. An effort is being made to appeal to the interest of as many of the students as possible. To give a brief summary of what intramurals are, one might merely say it's a follow-up to regular gym classes, inasmuch as during regular gym classes, instructions are given and the activities are learned. Then, for the enjoyment of the girls interested in playing the activities intramurals are offered, where any student may participate regardless of ability for the fun and the recreational benefits. Intramurals offered in Dansville coinciding with our seasonal periods are: Soccer Recreational Games Field Hockey Tennis Bowling Archery Basketball Softball Volleyball 5 . 66 5 X w 1 Y R H re, , ?
