Our faculty is represented by the sun, which gives all of us the light of learning. The earth symbolizes the Senior Class, and, as it travels along its annual path, it passes through the four seasons: the Magazine Drive, the Senior Play, the Senior Ball, and the trip to Washington. During this time, we ex- perience periods of calm, fair weather and also stormy days, but our planet finally reaches the long-awaited posi- tion in its orbit: Graduation. Novv, just before we have completed our rotation about the sun, we pause to present the 1953 Danua. Editor-in-Chief 3 Dedicafion HO MEROOM TEACHERS Mrs. R. Bill, Mrs. C. Walker, Vice President: K. Harding, Treasurerg L. Miller, Presi dentg G. Rathbum, Secretary. History oUR Freshman year found Pres. Kent Harding, Vice-Pres. Jean Price, Sec. Carol Weber and Treas. Richard Wirth guiding us through a successful year, with our sweater dances as our major project. Under the supervision of Richard Wirth as Pres., Don Vogt as Vice-Pres., Noreen Gess- ner as Sec. and Carl Gibson as Treas., our Sophomore year was very profitable. Our movie benefit and dances were a great success. Another rung on the ladder had been climbed. Juniors at last I Our Pres. was Carl Gibson, with Dennis Donovan, Jean Price and Carl Barber filling the offices of Vice-Pres., Sec. and Treas., respectively. The Junior Playhouse under the excellent chairmanship of Larry Miller, was one of the highlights of our year. We also sold candy, Roy McCa.ffery acting as Chairman. Are there going to be enough streamers for the walls? This was the anxious question most often asked as the date of our Junior Prom approached. Ably supervised by Mr. Sulli- van, our Prom was highly successful, its theme being Garden in the Rain. Finally came our Senior year, with its promising array of projects, hard work and happy times. We elected Larry Miller to wield the gavel as Pres., supported by Nancy Walker as Vice-Pres., with pen and pencils going to Sec. Gretta Rathburn, and the task of balancing the books falling to Treas. Kent Harding. Our magazine drive shattered last year's record by over 31000. lf these lines aren't learned, I'll be a 'mort canard--dead duck--French, remember? Our Senior Play, The Curious Savage was played by a cast ably headed by Gretchen Van Derhoof, and directed by Miss O'Neil. As the Christmas Ball approached, its theme song, Stairway to the Stars, was whistled, hummed and sung by every student in 307. Paper, pins, string and blueprints, late hours, hard work and the helpful hand of Mrs. Bill made the Ball memorable. Bev Ierome and Bill Mothorpe were chosen King and Queen with Dick Wirth and Gretta Rathburn as Prince and Princess. Semester exams, term papers, Danua Staff meetings, band rehearsals. As the school year drew rapidly to a close, we found ourselves busier than ever. Amid empty rubber ce- ment bottles, master sheets and clipped photographs, were to be found Roger Kemp, Miss Magavero and the entire Danua Staff. With the Washington trip over, and our caps and gowns ready to don, we close our four year album, and with relief mingled with regret, express our appreciation to Mr. Covert, ' Mrs. Purchase, Mrs. Bill, Miss Magavero, Mrs. Plough, Miss O'Neil, Mr. Moder and to the countless others who have helped in so many ways to make it possible for us to achieve our final goal--Graduation. j N5 -5 Egg in if- X' i 25 fl ! l.
