Webster has been allotted the business courses and will, in future years, be a magnet school for high school business students throughout the city. Foundation of the program based on previously standard curriculum at Webster includes typewriting, shorthand, law, office machines, bookkeeping, accounting. general office education. and the cooperative office education program with a wide variety of on-the-job training experiences. As in the past, students will be trained in preparing themselves for the business world through the use of new and up-to- date equipment and ever revised courses keeping in step with the most modern business situations. if ' 27 Highlighting the newest addition to the business department is the 560,000.00 word processing equipment placed at Webster this year. The latest device in office preparation of correspondence. reports, and statistical data through magnetic storage and reproduction of information, the word processing equipment is the only school-located equipment of its kind in the south- western part of the United States and puts Webster in an enviable position as it trains students for positions in the most modern offices of large in- dustrial firms. Mrs. Gladys Whetstine and Mrs. Jean Peck are in- structors in the new program and have in just one year's time trained many students for these challenging positions. Well-equipped laboratories and highly competent instructors in the Math and Science Departments give Webster students the opportunity to achieve greatly in these fields of study, 33 Working minds are essential to the advancement of human society and at Webster an attempt is made to assist each stu- dent in learning as much as possible. Special training in fundamentals is provided when needed so that each student will have a helpful background upon graduation. In the history and social studies department great stress is laid on the democratic principles which have developed our nation - in addition to giving students the core of facts surrounding our national and world history. Only in understanding the past can students grasp the meaning of today's history and set goals for their future as they move into the realm of adult leadership. we W fi Y ,f wa 'P 153 3 --11 . Time is consumed by ac- tivities - no one will deny that fact. but also no one will deny the fact that activities keep many students in- terested in school who might otherwise become discouraged with a lack of Spirit. Striking the proper balance for the school and for each student proves to be the problem as the total number of students par- ticipating actively remains small and the majority seems to be content with being only spectators. Those who exert the effort and use the time necessary to make ac- tivities worthwhile are the ones who benefit most. A change in the par- ticipation record was begun this year as the membership in Pep Club shot to a high unheard of in the past eigh- teen years. The surge of activity was felt throughout the school. One-two-three canmake the difference-and that was the case in many of the highly contested basketball games at Webster this season. With a 11-5 regular season the Warriors lost two games by one point and at the same time won one game by a single point. won two by two points. and one by three. See-saw scores. highly charged moments of anticipation, display of all the skill possible by mem- bers of the team all tended to keep spectators' interest high. Warriors racked up double wins over Wewoka 58-49 and 68-66, Broken Arrow 59-50 and 58-39, Kelley 66- 45 and 64-59 while losing twice to Okmulgee 48-60 and 59-60. Splits were with Bartlesville 52-53 and 60-53. Sapulpa 86-61 and 56-64. East Central 67-72 and 64-61. In preliminary games of the Area play-offs, Webster lost to Tahlequah 70-84. State play-offs saw the Websterites lose out in an early round being defeated by Mason 90-70. Marcus Penny was placed on both the Tulsa Tirbune and the Tulsa World All-State teams: he was also selected by the Oklahoma City Sunday Oklahoman for their All-State team. and by the Okla- homa journal of Oklahoma City for their All-State Blue Chip team. 63 Combmmg the best features of both individual and team sports into a unified activity, wrestling requires a dedication that has long been demonstrated at Webster as great honors have come to Warrior grapplers, Continuing the tradition this year were a varsity and junior varsity squad that worked long hours, trained rigorously. and sacrificed much to achieve their goals. Under the watchful eye of Coaches Favor and Baker. Warriors seen in action on these pages include Randy Wood, Mark Benton, Bow Bushyhead. Ken Fish, Mike Kennemer, Les Pippin. Steve Parnell, Rick Grisham, Verlen Thompson, Kevin Dolan, Randy Grisham. Tribute goes to our wrestlers for their achievement and personal growth - and many will return next year to fight another day. 65 Bullding during the year from a largely new team, and faced with the continual loss of members as students moved away from Tulsa, the grapplers still earned a 5-6 season dual record and qual- ified three individuals for State. Duals won were Okmulgee 40-6. Sapulpa 32-26, McAlester 52-6, Muskogee 28-24, Broken Arrow 26- 24, and a forfeit from Owasso. Losses. many of which were attrib- uted to short teams and forfeits at various weights, were to Memor- ial 29-38, Jenks 29-38. Kelley 9- 36, Blackwell 21-34, and Sand Springs 9-35. Consistent winners were Les Pippin. Verlen Thompson. Randy Wood, and Randy Grisham with the last three of these qualifying for State. At the Edison Festival this year the Warriors defeated Edison 26-24 and lost to East Central 13-40 and to Norman 9-43. In its own tourney Webster took Sth with Thompson taking lst, Pippin 2nd, Wood 4th. At the Edison Tournament the Warriors ranked 7th with Thompson lst. Wood 3rd, and Pippin 4th: with a 6th at Memorial's tourney Thompson again had a lst, while both Pippin and Grisham ranked 4thg in Regionals Webster took 5th with Thompson taking 2nd and Wood and Grisham both at 3rd. In State competition Verlen Thompson placed first and Randy Wood placed second. B TEAM: FRONT: Ray Stufilebam, John Sharp, Rusty Strader. With a strong Board in Tulsa in' terested in providing the best educational facilities and methods and with a highly cooperative ad- ministration at Webster, Warriors are assured a high quality education if they take advantage of their oppor- tunities to learn in a wide variety of subject matter areas. Webster's ex- panded counseling services this year were of great value to those students who chose to seek aid and informa- tion about course selection and scheduling. 1 4 e iwfg'f7' y. 5 .nge . . - . , Dr. Bruce Howell Mrs. Mary Warner Superintendent President 'ai , I -warm f s AQ? if t I .x . . :re .3 Eugene H. Webster has truly become the Alma Mater of these classmates who have made the ef- fort to support their class. carry on its activities, and truly become a part of their school community. Moods? - Excitement as they enrolled for dieir final year: an- ticipation as they entered new classes: despair as they discovered the amount of study necessary to really learn: anguish as class pro- jects fell apart: hope as they look to the future: joy as they complete the year: a tinge of sadness as they say farewell to school and friends. 101 V Senlor moods vary from day-to-day and from the sub- lime to the ridiculous as the im- pact of their final year grows! The royal court of Miss Daniel Webster, Debbie Warnock, and her Senior honor maids Terri Roseborough and Rhonda Fleming: the delegates to Boys' and Girls' States. Rodney Cook, john Murray, and Terri Rose- boroughg and the class officers headed by president Rick Grisham are solemn. But then come the antics of assemblies. slave sales. volleyball. and the Senior mem- bers of the ffl Marching Band, and how rapidly the mood changes! Also pictured on these pages are members of the Senior Cabinet and the remaining class officers, vice- president Dennis Hammock, secretary Diane Landrum, treasurer Debbie Warnock, parliamentarian Elaine Acosta. Chaplain Sheryl Hyde, His- torians Judy Hollingsworth and Machael Baldridge, and reporter Reba Haynes: and Class Sponsor Mrs. Millie Bowman,-And then there is that terrific por- trait of everybody's favorite glamour boy Tim Smith-surely one of the low comedy spots in the history of any graduating class! 103 Fund-raismg plus a variety of activities, and even a few classes helped Seniors main- tain a spirit of enthusiasm as the final year of their public school career faded from view. Their moods were mixed as they realized the seriousness of their year's study, the abounding fun, and at the same time looked forward with anticipation to jobs or additional schooling next year. There was the realization that separation in both time and place was rapidly approaching even for the best of friends. Always the promise, I'll see you! -but always the un- voiced questions, Where-when? WILSWDIITII si-mlm.
