FOOTBALL The 1956 season was a rebuilding year for our team composed, for the most part, of sophomores and juniors. A complete new coaching staff headed by Nlr. Martin, and assisted by Mr. Knapp, Mr. Cooper, and Mr. Barnett, did a fine job with our young squad, which finished the season with only three seniors in the starting line-up. The XVarriors turned in their most creditable performance of the year when they held Central to a scoreless draw in the first game of the all- city. The game was a nip and tuck battle with both teams having the same number of penetra- tions inside the twenty-yard line. Central, how- ever, was declared the winner on the basis of first downs. YVith injuries to key men, the VVarriors failed to improve as the season progressed, and the last game against Edison found them still look- ing for their first win. BASKETBALL Under Coach Allen, the YVarrior cagers tumed in a fine record both in Conference and regular season play. VVith only three retuming lettermen, the YVarriors progressed rapidly and finished the Conference schedule with a 13-3 record, defeat- ing every team in the circuit twice, except Will Rogers and Muskogee. One of the highlights of the season was a 71- 47 win over Okmulgee, which set a new record for the most points ever scored by a Webster team. In non-Conference games Webster lost only to Drumright, Booker T. Washington, and Central. Central's win came during the Regional play-offs, even though the VVarriors had previ- ously defeated the Braves twice in loop play. Besides taking runner-up honors in the Con- ferenee, the YVarriors, with an over-all season mark of 19 Wins and six losses, were rated sec- ond hy the Daily Oklahoman's final state ratings. After 18 years of faithful service to XVebster, Richie is retiring. All YVebsterites, past and present, agree that Ricbieys understanding and helpfulness will he missed. As she leaves, we wish her health, happiness, and many hours with her family and her ceramics. Modem dance was emphasized in the Girls' Physical Education Department this year. The girls were instructed first in the theory to gain a better under- standing of the purpose and background of modern dance. The fundamentals of time, space, form, and direction are de- veloped into basic movement structures. The girls, through self-expression and creativity, form the structure of the Dance.', Through the awareness of music, poetry, and surrounding objects, students developed a recognition that all objects have rhythmic qualities in form and structure. Each girl had TIME and opportunity to improve her posture, poise, and to gain an ability for self-expression. fn,-L!
