U, V! , Note the beautiful grounds, convenience of facilities and smartly designed buildings. Our school is both unique and fortunate in having such spacious accom- modations. In Webstefs school activities and work we join hands to learn to live co-operatively with others. E181 '-v il iv 4-as og V Leadership Numerous activities are of- fered at Webster. Of the many who are students some must take the responsibility for plan- ning and executing the details of our programs. The necessity of leadership is apparent and the satisfactions are available to all who are capable of sharing the responsibilities. Shown at the left are .lerry Smith and Mr. Oliver who represented our city of Tulsa in the Freedomls Foun- dation program of the year, an event of importance held at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Service Our needs are satisfied by many who often go unrecog- nized. School news, plays, and programs, reading material, sup- plies, and even our food are only made possible by the constant effort of groups and organiza- tions dedicated to our cause. We should pause to consider the many accomodations which are made available to us as students of VVebster. Shown at the left is a visitor of the Senior Officers class who is offering a selection of graduation announcements for their approval. Lzoj Duty and Leisure Activities at WVehster are planned to give the students an opportunity to enjoy as well as learn. Our curriculum permits you the part of both entertainer and entertained, maker or user, voter or electee. Here, you can attend a dance or learn a voca- tion, be an actor or applaud an act. Anyone with the ability and determination can become a part of the numerous programs which are available to the entire student body. The size and the nature of our school permit these things and we of Webster Senior High are honored to be a part of them. Senior boys at right make cookies. Sports A wholesome spirit of compe- tition and the development of health are important considera- tions in our athletic activities. Greatly varied are the selection of sports and the opportunity of each of us to enter into them. Some of the qualities We strive to impart are: determination, excellence, and sportsmanship. WVinning is secondary, as it should he, but the spirit is para- mount with our personnel. VVe feel a close relationship of unity in all the events undertaken at our school. We feel it is unique. The view at right is basketball at halftime. l21l Q, i,a,.,,k4, , ki W i ,Lim 'iff -if 5, U Sdn 5 ggi. ,A4 V' ., s 1 S D Ai X , t. 'S Practicing leadership is a privilege and an opportunity to those of us at Webster who will have it. YVe recognize its value as well as the obligation accom- panying it. Shown in the top photo is 'tl3utch Lucas, Student Council president, being in- stalled by Mr. 'l'. ll. Broad, principal. As he receives the gavel he also receives the re- sponsibility of planning for you and l. Competition is a principle of leadership. In the center photo are the designers of NVebster's llandbook cover. 'l'heir work was awarded first place in a contest open to all students and a cash prize was awarded them. They are Gordon Snidow, Bill Lollis, .lerry Hunt, and If YV. Bridges. In our school Democracy is a daily practice as a matter of procedure. Equal opportunities are available to any who wish to seek office. Nominating, campaigning, and voting are familiar procedures to us and we hold these privileges high as a heritage of our way of living. The photo at the bottom is a group of students who are exer- cising their right to vote. l22l Student Council Offlrezs Seated: Phyllis Corbin, secretaryg Rhonda Byrd, nee presldent Wilson Lucai presldent Nolml Vincent, parliumentarian. Bridges, THE STUDENT COUNCIL AIDS US IN MANY WAYS GIVING SERVICE The people on the following pages are dedicated to serving your needs. Many skills are in- volved so that our ends may be more than adequately met. lVIuch time and energy have been devoted to us. Indeed, a large part of our students are actively participating in these various groups and organiza- tions, learning as they plan for the future. Of the most conspicuous in their service to us are those who afford us news, books, and sup- plies. Uthers help us with safe- ty, our records, maintenance and program sets. See photo at top of Stagecraft. The office staff has helped each of us at some time as the center picture may illustrate. Y-Teens is a girls' organiza- tion of great size dedicated to developing proper attitudes and mannerisms. It does much to help us into adult behavior. Occasionally students having special abilities are called upon to aid us. 'l'he bottom photo is typical and shows a group of girls preparing food for the supervisors banquet held here. l29l -M ,J 'T-Tia 5 94' 4.05 I ff' r f f I if lt, ill L-ff' ,MZ l l L, E X x . , X s 5' m Q , M. an , 11 f X '94-You ti YEARBOOK Sfated: Jeanie Dondlinger, D. E541 Most of the entertainment and a large amount of work and planning comes from this unit of organizations. The Tuli- curle and Corormlimz as well as all our music and assemblies came from them. Many hours of practice or rehearsing were necessary that a versatile and pleasing school program could be presented for your enjoyment. The majority ol' our student body has at one time or another been connected in some way with these things. Talent has been tried, skills developed, programs planned and oppor- tunity for expression found. As a vital part of this we must mention those who are dedi- cated to training for the future. Among them are the l .H.A., F.N.A., l+'.'l'.A., D.O., and D.l'i. In the shop, the office, or the home, our groups are organized to serve each of the student's needs. It is with this eye to the future that we rest confident of the plans we are making for tomorrow . lilmlos m'f': Gxisimoii 'l'lil-2A'1'1aR PLM 1mAif'i'iNo CLASS Plil' R,uii,x' Nfl Fllftllrfl' H onwnm lrvrs SJ l ir.s't Row: Mary Beth George, Rosalie Moss, Sliirley livans, Sue Ramsey, Juan Plunihlee, Frances Morris, Donna Billings, Nlellia Thmnpson, Carol Pleasant. Unlike the other high schools of Tulsa we are not so large that we cannot become personally acquainted with one an- other. This condition breeds a closer companionship among us. It gives us a feeling of unity and a greater desire for cooperation and understanding. Our school spirit is like that of a family, to- gether in all things. Intra-School compe- tition is offered for those who wish to specialize in athletics. Intramural activities are held for the regular gym classes, includ- ing both girls and boys. Swimming, baseball, football, basketball, volleyball, wrestling, track, dancing, and baseball are the most prominent choices. Some others which are offered are: golf, tennis, hockey, and ping pong. Boys trying to make the school team or wishing to excell in their athletic abilities have the sixth period reserved for this purpose. We have been honored this year by having members of these teams named as All-State, Regional, and In- tra-City champions. It is unani- mously agreed among us that our sports program does much good and creates a feeling of unity about our school. A never say die Warrior gridiron fought hard after their l'irst initial set-back but couldn't break the win skin until our second meeting with Central. This was our season's most memorable game with the inspired VVarriors fighting to a 13 to 13 standstill. VVe were defeated in the next game following Central by Broken Arrow, Q0 to 13. The last two we played were Pawhuska and Okmulgee. They were victims of our on- slight by good margins. We owe a debt of gratitude to the boys who played so well for our school. Mk. Intramural Sports Varsity athletes are not the only ones who have a sports program. Intramural sports are offered to all the boys in the physical educa- tion classes. Those who want to participate in athletics sometimes may he unable for various reasons. Conflicting schedules and working are frequent cases. This year seven intramural' sports were offered to the gym classes. These sports were flag football, basketball, wrestling, softball, track, ping pong and volleyball. The contests between the classes are held in the morning before school and directed by Coaches Bill Allen and Bill McMichael. Intramural sports offer the boys a chance 63 to earn a letter award as well as a chance to practice competitive sportsmanship. These letters are awarded when the student makes a total of fifteen hundred points. Points are given in this manner: a student receives fifty for participating in each game and if his team places first, second, or third he gets an ad- ditional number of points toward the intra- mural letter. Championship honors were well distributed this vear. Fifth hour ffvm class won the flaw' .. 334 F: iootball championship, third hour was tops in basketball and first hour took the honors 7 m wrestlmv. VVe look u on our irowram as D T1 an achievement. J Girls Sports The girls participate in many athletic activities. .Xt the begin- ning of each year the girls usually start by playing baseball. 'llhen tryouts are held for teams in field hockey. Everyone knows when that time comes because the girls have battered shins as proof of it. VVhen it becomes too cold for outside sports we change to volley- ball, basketball and other sports fitted to the gymnasium. Une day out of the week we dance and do exercises. In the spring and fall we have posture pictures taken. These are helpful especially to girls who wish to improve their figures and develop a better carriage. The dance rehearsals for Tuli- earlf' were held in the girls gym and man y of us learned n e W rhythms. Girls Sports 'l'l1f-re are lH'0SXYllllllllllgl'l1lS5t'S xxliicli are cliviclecl in swimmer and non-swinnm-r groups. 'l'xxic'e a week the-se girls liaw tlie oppor- tunity ol' using the pool. Nou that spring is liere we are anticipating more outdoor sports. Softball is tlie one we anticipate most although we eacli have our favorites. VVitli everytliing con- siclerecl we feel tliat we are fortun- ate in having the great number of activities to participate in. E if Q ' 5' t - A ' ,egg ikk , iq: 1 N Q. Some of them were Red Cross, Student Council, Y-Teens, and Pep Club. This is also the first year that Webster has had a Sophomore wrestling team. We are very proud that some of our athletes made the A team in both basketball and football. Football queen attendants were Beverly Shafer and Sally Acton. Duane Sams was Sophomore Class Brave. The Sophomore play Home Sweet Homi- LB cide was given February 1. Afterwards the play cast had a hay ride. A large number of Sophomores were enthusiastic participants in the annual Talicade, which came about four weeks later. We had great success with our Valentine party. Everyone enjoyed the floor show and refreshments that were served afterwards in the cafeteria. We are anticipating the time next year when we are Juniors here at Web- ster with the hope that we can participate in even more events. Listen and I'll tell you all about it. I 34 J JU 1oR ACTI mes The Junior Class of 1954-1955 had a very eventful year. It began with the election and installation of our class officers and cabinet members. See picture below. The Junior play this year was Love ls in the Air, a happy comedy about the problems of a family with three teenagers. The next event held was a Sock-Hop party on the evening of January 25, with approximately one-hundred Juniors and their invited guests present. Four faculty members, lVlr. Byron Oliver, Mrs. Muriel McDougal, Mrs. Irene Nardin, and Mrs. Ona McCabe attended. Our class was well represented in athletics this year, with almost half of the teams being Juniors. YVe were also prominent in school clubs and organizations. Joyce Potts and Carol Fultz were our football queen attend- ants and Charles Kridler was the Junior Class Brave. On February 8th and 9th orders were placed for Senior rings. Our selection was made only after much careful thinking. NVe have had our third exciting year at VVebster and are looking forward eagerly to our fourth. l 2 l l i l l L-.- P X 'S Jlll1i0I' Class Cilbiliet-Serzred: Kay Phillips, Russell Kline, Nlrs. The speaker chosen for commencement was Dr. Chester Swanson, Superintendent of Schools, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. As we stepped through the doors of Web- ster to begin a new way of learning, and add our small part to the world, we paused and looked backward for the sign of encourage- ment we knew was there.
