COMMITTEES OF HEART CLUB John Rink ' s group of spirit - beavers made a genuine effort this year to boost student participation in extra-curricular activities. Their promotional endevours met with success as is evident from the marked increase in student and faculty participation at such events as the DMCI Invitational Basketball Tournament, Spirit Days, and the dances. The Club would like to thank all staff members for their aid and guidance. FRONT ROW: Sandy Cooper, John Rink, Mary Capri, Gayle Leverton; SECOND ROW; Karen Rempel, Doug Sargent, Pat Burdon, Wendy Russell, Pat Russell, Cindy Smith, Janice Wright, Greg Carter, Don Kasian. BACK: Bang Tyson. SOCIAL COMMITTEE The Social Committee attempted to institute some improvements in Daniel ' s dances. By raising ticket prices and increasing the effectiveness of the publicity campaigns the committee was able to book better bands and thereby increase student attendance at the dances. At one mid-year dance, with the Fifth, in excess of five hundred people attended. Claude Janier, Anna Tonosky, Pat Burdon, Ron Loewen, Bonnie Miller, Phil Tynes, Brian Yamashita. COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE This is the first year of this committee. The committee ran the events calendar beside the library. Also, in an effort to gain an idea of student opinion on certain matters the committee put out polls on the yearbook, dances, grad, and the DMCI Scholarship. SITTING: Gord Favell, Janet Watt, Sophie Rzeszutek, Bruce Hanson. STANDING: Chuck Sandberg, Wolfgang Fink, Pat Thiessen, Beng Tyson, Doug Sargeant.

The Student Council Elections Committee John Horrock ' s Elections Committee hand¬ led such events as elections for Spirit King and Queen, and, most importantly, elections for stu¬ dent council President and Vice-President. Their job was to marshall the candidates ' campaigns, or¬ ganize the presentation of speeches and supervise the counting of ballots. Thanks to Mrs. Witherspoon for her invalu¬ able assistance. FRONT ROW: Susan Desmarais, Debbie Falkingham, Jennie Mikos. BACK ROW: Nancy Stefura, John Horrocks (chairman), George Klassen. Scholarship Committee The Scholarship Committee under Judy Wilkins took on a multitude of duties this year. In collaboration with the Grade 12 presidents the members formulated a set of guidelines for awarding the DMCI scholarships. The Committee itself initiated a number of projects to increase the capital allotted to the scholarship fund. FRONT ROW: Gerry Collins, Erna Buffie, Judy Wilkins (chairman), Gayle Leverton, Glen Kellar. IN BACK: Phil Tynes. Awards Committee With the increasing popularity of school rings and pins, the Awards Committee was much busier this year than in previous years. The Com¬ mittee members were active both in the sale of rings and pins and in the purchase and distribution of beanies and pennants. The committee later took care of the paperwork behind the awarding of Citi¬ zenship awards. FRONT ROW: Ken Krochenski, Pat Burdon, Ingrid Voss (chairman), Debbie Thorne.
