R. Coggin. The object of this society is to promote the culture and literary taste of its members. As time progressed, the society became more outstanding in the social activities on the campus. In view of this, the Coggin Society became a sister organi- zation of the “B Association. Social activities for the year 1946-47 were an initiation of pledges in the home of Wilda and Nelda Sessions, initiation of pledges in chapel, Christ- mas program in chapel, Christmas party in heme of president, Mrs. Dorothy Gleaton, annual banquet for B Association followed by all-student dance, all-night party for members of club in Snyder cabin at Lake Brownwood, and annual all-night picnic at Lake Brownwood. COGGIN SOCIETY DELTA BETA CHI The Delta Beta Chi Sorority was organized for the purpose of promoting friendship and loyalty among students. The major part of the work of the organization has been devoted to cooperating with aims and ideals of the school and its further development. Despite the fact that the Billies had no coach, a group of ambitious young men took to the court for the Blue and White, and played 20 games. Although the Billies suffered several defeats early in the season, they fought on to quite a number of victories, and always they showed the true sportsmanship, traditional at Daniel Baker. The team was made up almost entirely of Freshmen, the lone exception being Nat Gleaton, who played for the Billies in 1941. Despite the lack of college experience, the boys made a very creditable showing against Texas and Border Conference teams. Pete Cole was the leading scorer for the Hillbillies, with exceptionally good per- formance by Bonnie Etheridge, Weldon Newton, “Goat Ray, Ross Wilson, and Nat Glea- ton adding much to the team's success. The addition of several new men at mid-term strengthened the team, with Bill Lambert and Neil Marbry showing great promise. Much credit and praise is due all of the Hillbilly Basketball players of the season.
