Class HlSfOTy ln the hlstory of these Umted States of America there are many outstanding dates that we treasure ID our memorles October l7th I497 uly 4th I776 November l Irh l9l8 but greatest of all as you shall see when future hlstor les are compiled rs the 27th of an uary l924 On that cheerfully sunny day a group of brightly shlnlng Fresh men gathered at the entrance of the old Danbury Hugh School and awaited the fateful bell that would summon them wlthm the portals where they were to set out on the notable careers that have already begun to startle the world No reporters were present to wrtness and describe the entrance to D H S of this charming brrgade of well starch ed well combed youngsters The class lad no press agents rn those days greatness rn newspaper clrcles but hrs dreams brought the class no publncltv then lt was a leap year day and nt was a real leap year class Once lh four years the gxrls come mto their own and nn the 1928A Class femrnmlty prevall ed by more than two to one How the hearts of the young Beau Brummels must have fluttered as they saw the multitude of coy llttle misses advancrn when the doors were finally thrown openl Feelmg always that It was predes txned to great achrevements tl'e class nevertheless made no Immediate at tempt to assert lts superlorlty Settling calmly mto the school routme It began to accumulate great stores of A s and Bs and prepare for the storms and fammes that all rntelllgent Freshmen know awalt them m the mountainous desert of Senior year They used their trme profitably and whatever they clld they dnd well The boys developed a good baseball team and made good Freshmen records at the track meet and ln basketball The girls busxed themselw es with orgamzlng their super lor numbers and with developing poll tical strength for future class meetm They settled not unwrllxn ly but not too deeply mto the usual obscurity of new classes endured the taunts of other somewhat older and far mfenor classes and blded their time Only one thang puzzled them How In the world could they enter m the 1928A Class and be Freshmen B33 What3 Wh1ch3 When5 and Why-' They were bewildered by the puzzle and sought enllghtenment Even the faculty hesitated ln nts replies The half year promotlons were still ln thexr mfancy at that tlme No one was pos rtrve rn thelr answer Only Nlr Betts failed to hesitate He was fast asleep on the stalrs and never sand a word paper paper paper' uestxon paper exam papers scratch paperl Report cards' Holldaysl Freshmen A s now and a temporary ending of the puzzle A few members lagged behmd but for the most part the class marched steadlly on serenelv flattemng the obstacles of Fresh mamsm Nor did the responslbllltles of Soph omore year frighten them They or ganlzed now as a umt and welded themselves mto a forceful whole The glrls knew their power but at the first electron of ofhcers they bowed humbly before school traditions and balloted for a boy as presrdent glvmg the honor to Vltot Vosllus lt has been sand that Vrtot s handsome features won thr- hearts of the farr ballot casters and weakened their determination to have a IOOW female executrve staff Dame Rumor reported also that Vosrlus wa unduly mfluencecl by a certam group of femrmsts but be that as rt may he ulded the class safely through the sec page mn . .
