Clubs Drill, Pepsters Spread Spirit The drill team, tall flags, and baton twirlers were under the guidance of Mr. Klingbeil this year. The drill team was led by Captain Sandy Stephens and Co-captain Kathy Carlton, who together were in charge of thirtyffour members. The six members of the tall flags were directed by Captain Kecia Anderson while Paulette Haggard was the maiorette captain. The large drill team was noted by Sandy when she commented, Since we had such a large team with almost all new members, I think we did exceptionally welll The teams met every day and after school three times per week to practice for major competitions. 'llt was hard work, but it paid off was a comment that everyone seemed to agree with. The girls placed fourth in the Norwalk competition, and they captured a first place trophy in a competition at Disneyland The teams also earned the first place overall Spirit award at a special camp they attended. To become a member of any of the three teams, a girl had to audition and then complete an interview. Early in the school year, the teams starred fundraising activities to pay for entry fees and transportation costs. As with all competitive groups, drill team, tall flags, and baton twirling promoted teamwork, responsibility, and friendship. Kecia Anderson summed it all up when she said, We did really well in competitions this year, and we had a great team Besides, it was a lot of fun. Pep Club was a newlyfformed club this year which helped promote spirit at school activities The peppers congregated at almost all sports events and wildly cheered on the teams The club also enjoyed attending parties, which were paid for by selling Pep Club sweatshirts. 1 PEP CLUB Cfront7'T Gleed, J Dumouchel, N.
