We gave a debate on the value ofthe Monroe Doctrine to the Western Hemisphere, attended by the World Allairs Club and the history classes, an indication ol' the expanding service ol' the club to the school. GERMAN CLUB President eanne Hurlbut Vire-PreJ1'dml-Sniffing' Audrey Shippee The Dana Hall German Club was more active this year than lor some years past. VVe had a meeting each month which re- volved around a special theme: at one meeting the theme was lamous German scientists, and each member prepared a paper in German on the lite of one scien- tist. In addition to the regular theme, we sang German songs and carried on con- versations in German. Miss Blattner's fascinating collection of pictures and books from Germany added color and realism to the meetings. We also had several com- bined meetings with Pine Manor. At one such meeting we discussed the Rheinland, so vitally important in W'orld War II. af' X f as 5 Y WORLD AFFAIRS CLUB President Brenda Bowman Vim-Pmridezzt-.S'rrre!a1y Vicky Harington Treasurer Jeanne de la Vergne The NVorld Aflairs Club this year held its monthly meeting on Tuesday alter- noons at Greenlow. We decided to devote each term to discussions ol' a specitic topic, and these together with last minute cur- rent events reports madc up our meetings. During the lall we chose Russia as our main topic. Several girls read books on the Russian people, and to round out our findings we had two competent speakers on Russia, Mr. and Mrs. lidmund Stevens. The highlight of the winter term was the lecture by Hans Kohn on Perm? with Ger- mzupu. Our topic lor the winter term, the Far East, was continued into the Spring term. Belore we realized it May arrived, and we reluctantly bade larewell to our club and to Miss Gottfried, our ever willing and able guide.
