During the school year an unusually line spirit and enthusiasm lor athletics were lelt throughout the school, and sports played a large part in the extracurricular activities ol' nearly everyone. The hockey season was quite long since the weather remained tavorable up until December, and although the varsity was not un- defeated, more outside games were played than ever before and many new contacts were estab- lished. In February a hockey ban- quet, at which awards were made, was given to the varsities by Miss Bowlby, and it was an experience which those girls will long treas- ure. Basketball was by lar the most popular winter sport, and although the classes were large, everyone had an equal chance to practice and play. The Varsity played several outside games, and the season was I55l ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION President Audrey Shippee Vice President Alex Ordway Seerelagz Lee Garrison T7'BH,l'uT67' Sheila Sweeney very successlul. In addition to varsity and class games, round robins between houses were held on Friday nights, and voluntary practice on Saturday afternoons. Badminton was also very popular this winter, and both singles and dou- bles tournaments were featured and adepts played outside schools. The ski weekend, which was spent this year at Russells in North Conway, New Hampshire, was a great success and almost without mishap. Although the weather was only lair, the spirit and the skiing were excellent. Cheer Leaders were a great MissBow1by addition to the games this year, and played a large part in making this year a success. Under the excellent leadership of Au- drey Shippee the organization was run elliciently, maintained its high standards, and Iurthered interest in athletics.

CFFICERS Preridenl Audrey Stewart V ire-President Pauline Lishon Secretagf Rose Sun Treasurer Shirley Rubel CHRISTIAN SERVICE LEAGUE The Christian Service League at Dana Hall is an organization to which every girl belongs. As its name implies, it is a philanthropic association, bent on doing what good it can, where and when it can. The Executive Board consists of a president, vice-president, treasurer, and secretary, all elected by the entire student body. These in turn appoint the various class and day student representatives. The officials of communities, such as Boys' Town, and of organizations, such as The Home for Little Wanderers, are constantly writing to either Mrs. Johnston or Mrs. Preble to thank the Dana Hall girls for their kind and much needed help, a destitute family expresses gratitude for a turkey dinner at Thanksgiving time, the men and women running the Greater Boston War Fund and the Red Cross drives, voice their appreciation for substantial contributions, crippled and helpless children from the Peabody Home and the Massachusetts Convalescent Home, write their thanks for such simple things as Christmas caroling,-all these people recognize the philanthropic work we do. In the autumn the League sponsors an informal dance in the Oak Room. At Christmastime it provides a candlelight service, one of the most beautiful and cher- ished memories of a Dana Hall girl. In the spring a May Queen and her Court are crowned, with the League sponsoring the festivities. All these activities are under the able guidance of Mrs. Preble. l58J
