English, one of our most im- portant subjects, is also one of Our most interesting. Here we learn some of our most needed abilities; the ability to speak and write effectively. We apply ourselves in English, knowing that a person's ideas, no matter how good, are of little practical importance unless he can ex- press them clearly. For these reasons English is a required subject. Of Actrotties Contributing to a greater part of our community life is the cannery. Our cannery is open to all county residents who find it convenient to use these facilities for their work. Not only is it important for us to acquire mental ability, but we must also learn how tokeep physically alert. Thisisthe reason that Physical Education is also one of our required subjects.

History is very important and interesting to many students because here we learn the fascinating story of man’s development from his earliest appearance on earth to his life in the twentieth-century. Here the emphasis is on people and the roles they have played onthe world's stage, and how these people have acted and interacted tocreate what is known to us as history. Learning that peace can be maintained only through a sympathetic understanding and appreciation of the various cultures of the world's peoples, we can go out and make our world a better one in which to live. In government we learn how to make wise decisions and how to understand our government. Here we are taught torecognize our government's true purpose and touse it to carry out our plans in later life. By learn- ing to understand this servant of ours, we can use it to its best advantages to make it obey our wishes. Here Trooper Parker is shown explaining good safety measures for the members to use when there is a necessity for precautionary measures.

While studying Julius Caesar, Mr. Wilson's tenth grade English class prepared several projects for dis- play in the library. At the left is a scale model of The Globe, anopen air public play house used for Shakespeare's plays. Pictured at the right is a display of Roman dress, headpiece s, scrolls, laurel wreaths, a scale model of The Temple of Saturn, and a figure head of Julius Gacsatue and JSnterests Under the direction of Mrs. Jean Myers, the Journalism class learns and practices the fundamentals of newspaper writing.
