PROPHECY As I climbed the stairs to report for duty on Ward 3, I bumped into Patsy Ramey, Physical Therapist at Ramey Clinic, San Diego, California, who had been called in-for consultation: Anxious.,to find out information about our classmates, I inquired about Mary Martin and ‘Tillie Boyd, who had taken their nurses training with me. I learned that Mary was onstaff at the Ramey Clinic and that Tillie.was now an instructor of student nurses at the University of Vir- ginia. I also learned that Patsy, having made reservations on the Jetty Airlines owned by Cynthia Wilson, was leaving that night for Cypress Gardens, Florida, where Denny Mays would be star performer of the water show. She informed me that Frances Howerton was working as an airline stewardess for the Jetty Airline Company and Jimmy Stroud was a pilot. We were interrupted as I was paged to report to room 311. I said goodbye and walked down the corridor to the children's ward; to my surprise as I entered the room, I met Mrs. Gay Strader who was visiting her son, Cleo, Jr., recovering from a tonsillectomy. While I helped make him comfortable, Gay gave me news of our old classmates. She said Harry Shriver, Buddy East, and Sterling Green were each attempting the 2nd flight to the moon. Also Douglas Gunnell had attained the high rank of Admiral in the Navy. Noticing that it was my lunch hour, I headed for the corner drug store owned by Harold Jones, and while waiting for my lunch, I looked over the magazine rack and bought an issue of the Holley Fashion Guide , .edited by Mrs. Leathy Francisco Holley, featuring outstanding models, Shirley Dawson, Shelby Stanfield and Norma Walker. Glancing around, I noticed a Southern Planter featuring the outstanding farmer of the year, Bobby Lee Wilkerson, with Joe Cobb, Johnny Dodson and Junior Gee taking 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places. I noticed advertisements of Martin's Shoe Store (owned and oper- ated by Allen Martin)»and C C Auto Re- pair Shop (operated by Clyde Martin and C.L. Hill) in both magazines. After picking up a prescription for one of my patients from the Pharmacist Gene Burnett, I returned to the hospital. I saw that I still had an hour before going on afternoon duty, so I decided to catch up on my correspondence. In an- swering Jackie Clark's letter, I asked her to give my best wishes to Bill Jennings and Wayne Strader who were stationed in Honolulu where Jackie was doing Baptist Mission work. I told her that two new members had been added to the Dan River faculty, Linda Thornton, now Mrs. Johnny Dodson, was teaching Physical Education and Betty Barber History and English. Bertha Lewis was beauty consultant for Max Factor and lived in Hollywood, California. Novalene Steele and Lois Milam were secretaries for Kidd, Cox and Kuykendall, Attorneys at Law, a firm established by David Kidd, Joe Cox and Curtis Kuykendall, here in Danville. Mrs. Judy Adams Dodson had recent- ly won the National Award for the Out- standing Homemaker of the year and placing second was Mrs. Ruth Ferguson Frankos, both receiving expense paid va- cations to the French Riviera. Noticing that it was nearing time for me to report for afternoon duty, I closed the letter and as I made my way to the desk, I thought how far our class had ad- vanced since we graduated in 1959 and how I looked forward to our class reunion, June 1969. Joan C. Morris
