Dan River High School Presented by SENIORS AND THE JUNIORS With sincere acknowledgment of her helpful guidance, with recognition of her strong faith in the students of Dan River, andwith deep appreciation for her work as treasurer of our school, we the Senio r and Junior Classes of 1953, dedicate The Archway toawonderful person, Miss Louise Bennett. -2- We have known her as a teacher with great leadership and patience, whose unlimited energy is a challenge to do our best; but we also know her as a friend, giving us advice when we needit and sharing our joys and difficulties, Therefore, we, the Senior and Junior classes of 1953, take great pleasure in dedicating this volume of The Archway to Mrs. Florence Walton, ae MR, R, H. All of us took part in a freshman initiation and most of us have been active in athletics and other activities, Thomas London was a star player in both basketball and baseball, Ronald Adkins made the baseball team in his Junior year. Neal Dodson, before being inducted into the Army during his Junior year, was active in basketball. Two of our members, Barbara Green and Donald Motley, had leading parts in the Junior, Sophomore play. Inthe fall of '52 we returned to find that the 1953 graduating class was composed of eight members under the sponsorship of Mrs. Florence Walton. Right away we began working with the Junior Class under Mr. Jesse Lane to put out the sixth edition of The Archway, '' Members inthe Senior Class on the Archway are Neal Dodson, Editor-in-chief; Donald Motley, Business Manager; Ronald Atkins, Advertising Manager; Nancy Compton, Literary Editor; Harriette Shriver, Typist. Since the Seniors willhave but one year together, we sincerely hope that everyone will be able to graduate, We shall always remember our friends, teachers, and principal, and think of what they have done for us now and in our days ahead, Barbara Greene Titi Seniors.
