This club’s object is not only to study the lan- guage, but also to become acquainted with the laws and customs of the inhabitants of Spain and other countries that speak the Spanish tongue. CL The DanRiver Club is under the direction of Miss Nina Flora. The club has made a nice showing in several chapel programs; and gave its first public appearance, December 10th, in the County Christ- mas Festival of Music, which was held in Chat- ham. The Library Club, under the supervision of Miss Bonnie Jean Al- derson, is an organization to arouse literary interest and appreciation of the work carried on in the school library. The ideals and purpose of the F. H. A., under the direction of Mary Hannah Jones, is to promote interest towards better home and family life. The F. H. A. brings together state groups interested in these ideals. The Dan River Chapter of F, F. A. is under the supervision of C. Nelson Payne. Major objectives of the local chapter during the past three years have centered on school ground improvements. Among those the chapter has constructed concrete walkways, erected a flag pole, seeded and fertilized grass, and surfaced the parking lot. Many federation contests have been entered with the chapter placed highin public speaking; the Degree team and Forestry judging. 5) Thomas Simmons Bernard London Norman Moore “Nick” Gollie. Just as I turned out of my driveway my nerves were shattered by an awful noise behind me and as I looked back, it passed. Oh, for goodness sake! It’s just Pete Marshall, still driving that 36 Chevrolet. By the time I calmed down I had reached my destination. The party was in full swing. Guests were crowded into the place. As Ientered the front door I sawa group of people gathered around somebody. Well, what ya know! Leon Compton, a great light in the theatre now, was well lit as usual and he and Charlie McCarthy were having a time. Leaving that group, my attention was drawn to Mary Frances Barker, seated at the piano, with her famous all-girl chorus gathered around her including Ruby Deboe, Margaret Blecher, Patsy Wright, and Jean Walker. This group of girls has become very popular while working with Rudolph Roberts and hiscircus. Just then,a puff of wind went by. Excuse me, that was only Ann Didlake and her All-American Cheer-leading Squad 45 breezing by. After the noise died down, I strolled over to speak to Bobby Scearce, who is now star first baseman for the Glen- wood Dodgers. He was giving out free auto- graphs for one daughter! As I left Bobby I heard a scream! My goodness, Kenneth Mar- tin is stilllearningto dance. I believe he has sprained his ankle, oh well, nothing to get excited about because there goes Dr. Betty Ann Myers to the rescue. She now owns her own veterinary hospital in Onion Hollow. She never wastes over three days on one patient. At the end of that time, she sends them across the hill to R. H. Gunn, who is anundertaker inStinkie Hollow. Joyce Haw- ker, still anold maid,is hisrighthand man. Chief embalmer is Jane Claude, Eunice Newcomb and Barbara Gibsondrive his am- bulances while Rachel drives the hearse and Dorothy Compton the family car. Turning around I bumped into Curtis Murphy and learned that he is still driving the school bus and now has five of his own. They are being operated by Wiley Guill, Thomas Farold Kuykendall, Bobby Hill, Walters, and Marie Layne. By the way, I hear that Marie is engaged. I was surprised to learn that Barbara Barker is afamous modelinNew York, And- rew Salmon being her manager.I think Mr. Motley is giving Andrew a little trouble, Ann Dixon is employed at the Belk-Leggett Co. On one of my trips around the room I stopped by a table loaded with delicious B-B Bats, and found out that they came from the Wilson Factory, owned and operated by Jesse Wilson. Hazel Tate and Nancy Rich- ardson areemployed at the Wilson Factory. Mildred Doolinis now a basketball coachand Carolyn Neathery is the star player on her team. | Loretta Hodnett is running a sewing shop in Glenwood, working with her are Barbara Talbard, Jean Henderson, and Blanche Dod- son. They make men’s suits only. Oh! Here comes Faye East. She holds a position with the Federal Bureau of Investigationin Ken- tuck, Virginia. Watson Compton is now working with her on a very important case. It seems that someone is trying tokeep Ju- dith Shields from publishing her daily mag- azine “How To Be An Old Maid.” While talking to Fayea knock was heard 46 at the door. It was a beggar and everyone felt sorry for the poor soul, so we all gave him at least a penny and even invited him in to share the monotony with us, only to find out that it was Garnett Hutcherson. Ater a friendly chat with him I started across the room, when I noticed a smartly dressed lady. Drawing nearer I discovered that itwas Janice Bray, now married to the manager of Raylass’' Department Store. I was sorry to learn that Mildred Boyd had to leave early, but Tiny Arnold, Mil- dred’s nurse, came with dreadful news, Somehow her husband had escaped from the attic of their home. About that time the waitresses, Hallie Ann Terry and Lois Davis, passed around delicious drinks. I learned that they came from the dairy farm of Billy Bennett and Ray Tate. After giving a toast, I drank my milk and started out of the door when, Miss Lois Callahan, who was sofortunate to have been our sponsor staggered in. I know by that time it must be getting pretty late, so I hurried home to help Charles finishthe dishes. Janie Carmichael Eat, Drink and Be Merry! She’s poised and competent ... friendly and helpful ... and she’s very anxious to serve you in giving good telephone service. It’s quite possible you do know her. She may live just around the corner. She might even have gone to your school. Now right through the year, she gives a good account of herself in an important job at the Telephone Company. She’s the girl with that famous voice — “The Voice with a Smile.” And that means, of course, that she is your cheerful telephone operator.
