JOHN STERLING Social Studies FROM INCEPTION TO PRESENT Under the direction of department chairman Mr. Michael Tonsing, the social studies curriculum experi- enced growth and change. Based upon a format of symposium discussions, ex- tensive outside readings, and deep, probing research, the honors course in American history gave students an un- precedented opportunity to develop the skills of the his- t orian. A revamped course in American government taught by Mr. Sterling drew seniors to consider America ' s role in international affairs.
