In this capacity many responsibilities have been thrust upon your young shoulders You gladly seized them with youthful zeal and carried them well. Others who follow will profit by the traditions which you helped to establish. You will always hold a unique place in the affections of those who have served on the faculty. New vistas of activity have been opened up for you and all Catholics by the recent directives of Pope John XXIU. The laity will be called upon to shoulder a greater responsibility and share in an ever expanding degree in Catholic action. It is the dedicated aim of our holoistic theory of educa- tion to prepare the young men who graduate from these hallowed halls of learning to assume their rightful role in these new and challenging frontiers. It Is our fond desire that the graduate of our school will be a young man with a great love of God and neighbor. He will have to be brave to live up to the ideals set before him. During your years in school you have been given every opportunity and encouragement to acquire a sincere love of learning. The tools of education with which you can build a promising future have been freely given you. A weU-rounded course of physical education to help build up your body, has been offered. As the Greeks put it so well, A sound mind in a sound body . The secondary school years are vitally important. During this short time a young lad becomes a man. It is hard to over estimate the importance of your training during these tempestuous years. It has been our intention to guide and help our students while encouraging them at the same time to be independent and resourceful. More and more your decisions must become your own. We must always be available to assist in an advisory capacity, but must leave you mature naturally. In this way you will be preparing yourselves for the day when you must inevitably become masters of your own destiny . While we have used all educational aids to help us in this herculean task, we have trusted more in God ' s grace and guidance to help us to succeed in so noble an endeavor. We have worked as though all depended on our efforts, and prayed as though all depended on God. Though we hope you wiU go on to scale great heights we will always remind you of the words of Our Blessed Lord, What doth it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his im- mortal soul .
