CLASS WILL We, the undersigned, Class of 1954, about to end the flight of our lives in Dalton High School and descend on into outer space, wish in this manner to bestow on the underclassmen some memento of our brief visit to light their way. We assume the gifts will be duly acknowl¬ edged and used to the best advantage by the recipients. Thus we hereby ordain and establish this to be the last will and testament of the Senior Class of 1954. I, Lila Amstutz, will my readiness to blush to Marlene Moser, I, Carolyn Britton, will my art ability to Florence Britton. I, Ida Jo Baker, will my father to next year’s Government class, I, Janet Case, will my position as librarian to Sandy Blosfield, I, Carolyn Danner, will my love for boys to Vera and Vida, I, Clarabel Douglas, will my glasses I never wear to Genevieve Nussbaum. I, Shirley Peters, will all the ways of having fun I ' ve learned in D. H. S. to my brother and sister, I, Darlene Sapp, will my shoes to anyone who wants two swimming pools. CLASS HISTORY We started our trip through space in the fall of 1950. Our rocket ship was named, Hope We Get There. The Captain of our rocket ship was Ir. Berg. The Pilot was Dale Stoin as President and our Co-Pilot was Donferd Nussbaum as Vice-Presi¬ dent. Our Navigator was ShirleyLance as Treasurer; our Flight Radio Operator, Clarabel Douglas as Sec¬ retary; our Cabin boy,Max Griffith as Sgt.-at-ArTns; and our Plight Engineers were: Ellis Martin,Junior Troyer and Martha Wertz as Student Council members. Our Class was known as The Crew of the Future. There were 60 members who climbed aboard. Before we could become full-fledged members of the space crew, we had to be initiated. There were two new members that climbed aboard during the first part of our year. For our first class party we stopped off at Planet Merriman ' s for a weiner roast. Nowthat we were upperclassmen, many of our crew were in Girls ' Band, Orchestra, High School Band, and most of the members participated in the Mixed Chorus. Our class was represented by one majorette, two football cheerleaders, and one reserve basket¬ ball cheerleader. There were eleven boys playing football from our crew; one, varsity basketball; two, reserve basketball; and a few participated in track and baseball. There were many Important events duringthis part of our ride. First came our Junior Class Play, We Shook the Family Tree. We were planningto receive our class rings for Christmas, but there was a slight delay. We were surely happy when they fi¬ nally did arrive. Towards the end of the year we gave the Seniors their banquet using the Corona¬ tion as our theme. When we started our trip through the Sophomore year,there were 56 members aboard. Six of our mem¬ bers dropped off, but four more hopped on. Our Captain was Mr, Hummel, The Pilot was Donferd Nussbaum as President and our Co-Pilot was Shirley Lance as Vice-President, Our Navigator was Trudy Kerstetter as Treasurer; our Flight Radio Oper¬ ator, Martha Wertz as Secretary; our Cabin boy, Kenny McKee as Sgt.-at-Arms, and our Flight Engi¬ neers were: Jim Swartz, Dick Fischnich, and Ellis Martin as Student Council members. On this part of our trip we chose grey and red as our class colors and also selected our class sweaters. Clarabel won a berth on the Varsity Cheerleading team and quite a few of the boys participated in basketball and football. George Kelbly got to dress for Varsity basketball. We stopped twice for class parties. Our first was at Planet Douglas ' s where we had a wonderful time participating in games and a barn dance. The second one came at the end of the year when we gave a farewell party to the members of the crew who were transferring to Smithvillefrom where they in¬ tended to finish the rest of their journey. Our Junior year began with 41 members remaining aboard. We had lost three. Our Co-Captains were: Miss McMillen and Mr. Berg. Our Pilot was Donferd Nussbaum as President and our Co-Pilot was Dale Stoin. Our Navigator was Ida Jo Baker as Treasurer; our Plight Radio Operator, Clarabel Douglas as Sec¬ retary; our Cabin boy, Homer Gerber, Sgt.-at-Arms; and our Plight Engineers were: Marjorie Horst, Trudy Kerstetter, and Jim Swartz as Student Council members. Prophecy Cont ' d, Lillian is a bookkeeper. Her penmanship is neat; She always has her work done right. The boss says, She can ' t be beat. Clarice is now in business school Learning very fast To operate a comptometer; So let ' s all hope she ' ll pass. Melvin is a barber Taking Erky ' s place; If you boys want a new look. Let Melvin shave your face. For our final ride through space our crew and passengers totaled 38. We lost Dale Stoin during the summer but Bonnie Lorenz moved in and replaced him. Our Co-Captains were: Miss Santschi and Mr. Jogan. Our Pilot was Homer Gerber as President and our Co-Pilot was Bill Ressler as Vice-President. Our Navigator was Bonnie Lorenz as Treasurer; our Plight Radio Operator,Clarabel Douglas, Secretary; our Cabin boy. Junior Troyer, as Sgt.-at-Arms, and our Plight Engineers were: Marjorie Horst, Trudy Kerstetter, and Jim Swartz as Student Council mem¬ bers. Our class was represented in the Student Council with Kenny McKee as President, Trudy Ker¬ stetter as Secretary, and Larry Rossiter as Sgt.- at-Arms. During the first part of the year we lost two of our members leaving 36 to graduate. As Seniors, we found that not only had our re¬ sponsibilities increased but also our opportunities to participate in the many activities. We had one football cheerleader,two varsity cheerleaders, and three reserve cheerleaders. There were three boys in basketball, seven in football, and a few went out for track and baseball. We had three majorettes and quite a few of us participated in High School Band, Orchestra, Girls ' Band, Girls ' Chorus, and Mixed Chorus, We published The Barker, and pro¬ duced our Senior Class Play, Dirty Work at the H Crossroads. Our Government class took a field p trip to Columbus and we were guests at the Junior- ( Senior Banquet. CLASS PROPHECY Lila is now a secretary As busy as can be; But what she likes best of all Is sitting on her boss ' s knee. Ida Jo is a beautician; She cuts, sets, and waves your hair. When next you want a beautiful look. Just visit her shop on the square. Carolyn is in art school An artist soon to be. If ever you want a picture. It ' s Miss Britton you should see. Janet is a teacher ' s wife, The salary is very low. So, if you know of a better job. Please let Janet and her husband know. Carol Danner is in the W. A. P. ' s Marching right in step. She does her duty for our land With lots of vigor and pep. Clarabel is a nurse at Apple Creek, She plans to work there for a while; The patients all think she ' s great Because she greets them with a smile. Mae is now in Nursing School As everyone can tell. Soon the patients will learn to love her Because she ' ll help to make them well. Fred is now a farmer Raising first prize cattle. The virus pests are a nuisance But he ' s slowly winning the battle. Dick is a head waiter. Serving people from coast to coast; He gives you service with a smile, You should hear the people boast. Anna Jean is now a secretary Working hard each day. But it seems like weeks and weeks Until she gets her pay. Homer is a Senator Who believes all men are free. He has a good reputation; A President he soon hopes to be. Rich became a pilot Plying high and low; For travel, ease, and comfort. Just call 8-2610. Marcia is teaching Physical Ed. At our own little Dalton High. She gives them lots of exercise And you never hear them sigh. Trudy is a housewife Caring for her family and home. She keeps the house all clean and tidy And thus her husband ne ' er shall roam. The Kick Twins have a dairy, All clean and nice and white; If it ' s milk or cream you want. Just see them - day or night. Carolyn is now a teacher, College is of the past; She teaches her pupils the Golden Rule And they learn it very fast. - 20 - Frank owns a five and ten Right in our own home town. He ' s always busy as can be, But work will never get him down. Glenn now owns his own farms And is looking for a wife. He ' s looking forward eagerly To a happy married life. Bonnie is a stewardess She travels through the sky. She makes her customers feel at ease; One reason why they fly. Ellis is selling cars, Model A ' s are his biggest buy; And for every car that you purchase. He ' ll give you a free necktie. Kenny now has a garage With service the whole year round; For efficiency in car repair. He ' s known all over town. Maurine is now a lady cop Who walks a nightly beat; She has taken Ir. Speck ' s place At South Main Street. Jim is the Ag. teacher In place of Mr. Scott. Although the boys are troublesome. He likes his job a lot. Don is now a basketball star Of Ohio State University. A hero in many a game he has been And helped bring home a victory. Marilyn owns a rocket ship It ' s based on planet Mars. She has her own little business Selling Milky Way Candy Bars. Shirley is a telephone operator; She is busy all day long Placing calls from here to there With a very merry song. Bill has built an auto racer. His speed no one can beat; Just to see him race. It really is a treat. Larry is now a game warden Protecting our wild life; If you abide by the laws. You won ' t be in jail for life. Darlene became a secretary For the Harlem Globe Trotters. She wants to learn how they play So she can teach her little totters. A lawyer is what Don wants to be Working at a very fast pace; If it is trouble you are in, Ifeve Donald take your case. Ruth is now a housewife After a long, long wait; With a home of love and happiness There ' s never a word of hate. Jim is now an engineer The greatest in the land.
