We -net and selected the following officers: President - Norman Johnson Vice-President - Don Hubbard Sec. and Treas. - Virginia Coffman Sergt.-at-arms - William Kennedy Motto - A winner never quitSjSnd a quitter never wins. Class Color - Red and Gray William Kennedy, Don Hubbard, and Norman Johnson played on the basketball team. At the end of the year we had a picnic at Pennyrile Park with our sponsor, Mrs. Prow. Our sophomore year found us on another hill in a new block building with twelve students. Betty Barnett entered from Dixon making an en- rollment of thirteen students. Mr. Thornton Dever was our sponsor this year and we selected the following officers: President - Virginia Coffman Vice-President - Don Hubbard Sec. and Treas. - Shirley Jones Sergt.-at-arms - Norman Johnson Motto - Not at the top; but climbing Class Color - Black and White Class Flower - Rose Shirley Jones was selected as a cheerleader and the following boys played on the Tiger team: Norman Johnson, William Kennedy, Don Hubbard, David Utley, and Junior Cullen. In our junior year we had a new principal, John W. Fletcher. There was that unlucky number—thirteen. We chose Mr. Thornton Dever as our sponsor again and selected the following officers: President - Shirley Jones Vice-President - Don Hubbard Sec. and Treas. - Virginia Coffman Motto - Forward, ever; backward, never. Class Color - Red and White Class Flower - Class Flower - Carnation Mr. Fletcher, our principal, took us on a very enjoyable picnic to Fennyrile Park ana we also went on a trip to St. Louis with she Seniors. Virginia Coffman was selected cheerleader and William Kennedy, Don ----- Hubbard, Norman Johnson, David Utley, and Junior Cullen played on the very successful ball team. At last we came to our Senior year with the enrollment of eleven. We selected Mrs. Corine Utterback as our sponsor and elected the follow- ing officers: President - Virginia Coffman Vice-President - William Kennedy Sec. and Treas. - Blanche Young Sergt.-at-arms - Norman Johnson Motto - At the top and still climbing Class Color - Green and White Class Flower - Tulip For our Senior play we have chosen Hillbilly Courtship which we plan to present in March. LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS: DALTON HIGH SCHOOL, of the City of Dalton and County of Hopkins, State of Kentucky, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, and not acting under fraud, duress, menace, or the influence of any person whatsoever, do make, publish, and de- clare this my last Will and Testament .of the Senior Class of 1953, in the manner following, that is to say; Virginia Coffman wills her big brown eyes to Yvonne Reid. ' Dorcas Buchanan (Seal) JUNIOR ACTIVITIES The Junior class this year enrolled fifteen, but with Marvin Perkins dropping out that leaves us with fourteen and the task of electing a new Sergeant-at-Arms . The following officers were elected: President---Hubert Morgan Vice-Pres.—Leonard Rawlins Sec.-Treas.-Austin Johnston Sergeant-at-Arms---Marvin Perkins Sponsor-----Mrs. Esmer Wyatt Mrs. Wyatt is a very intelligent woman, has a vivid imagination and gets along fine with every- one, including the students. We placed five on the basketball team this year. They are: Edward Johnston, Maurice '.Vyatt, Austin Johnston, kenneth Weir, and Hubert Morgan. The opinion of some was that two senior boys would be the Hot Shots on the hardwood, but Big Ed.” Johnston has fooled a few of us. After he was shiftec to guard and started popping the net a few times from mid-court, He has turned out to be fair. If six feet and two inches of Maurice Wyatt should ever get olicking he should be a rebounding demon for the Tigers . We are pretty sure that he will. The rest of us were placed on the second team. Austin johnston, Weir and 1 sometimes substitute for first team. as yet we have made no trips, but we have been busy making money. After a big Sadie nawkins dance we went home happy and content, for we had made a nice profit, ihis year we hope the sophmores will be better juniors than we were and that we shall be better seniors. Hubert Morgan s s r Sharon Jones SOPHOMORE ACTIVITIES President: Hangrum Franklin Vice-President: Richard Cook Secretary: Kenneth Morgan Treasurer: Bobby Peyton Sergeant-at-arms: Dale Neal Editor: Jo Anne Ratliff Motto: Forward, ever; backward, never. Bobby Peyton and Dale Neal are first team substitutes. The following five are on the second team: Kenneth Morgan, Billy Joe Cullen, Mangrum Franklin, Jerry Lovan, and Richard Cook. Marlene Hancock and Sharon Jones were chosen as cheerleaders this year. Our class and the Freshman class are planning to have a square dance in February and use the proceeds for our class trip. Roy Cox is the most studious boy in our class and Noreen Grable is the most studious girl. SPORTS PAGE So far this year the Tigers have not done very well, but we have hopes that we shall improve by the last of the season and be ready to win the dis- trict tournament as we lost in the Inagural tour- nament at Slaughters and the Christmas tournament at Nebo. We are suffering from the fact that we don't have a standard gymnasium. We gave to play our home games at other school gymnasiums. The floor we practice on is so small that we can't do our best on it. In bad weather the smaller children have to play in the gymnasium and their hard-soled shoes take off most of the varnish. Our schedule has been as follows: 1. Earlington: away — Nov. 13, 1952 — Lost. 2. Mortons Gap: home — Nov. 14, 1952 —Won. This game was scheduled to be played at Madison- ville, but was played at Mortons Gap. 3. Caldwell County Hi: home —Nov. 18, 1952 -- Won. 4. Nortonville: away — Nov. 21, 1952 — Won. 5.
