Roena Good entered from Charleston. This left an enrollment of seventeen. This year our officers were: President------------------------------------Junior Utley Vice - President----------------------------- Randle Riley Secretary-Treasurer------------------ --Ola Mae Johnston Our sponsor was the principal, Mr. A. O. Richards. One of our members, J. D. Franklin, won a trip to Richmond, Virginia, by writing a theme on What I Have Done In The 4-H Club . Buddie Hale and Helen Prow were chosen as cheerleaders. We took our trip to Nashville to see the Grand Ole1 Opery. 13 At last we are seniors. Though the struggle was hard, we pulled through with an enrollment of sixteen. Roena Good went back to Charleston. The following members of the Senior Class have won honors: Buddie Wilson won second place in the County Essay Contest. Helen Prow was chosen by the basketball boys as one of the cheerleaders. Ola Mae Johnston was chosen by the seniors and faculty as the Good Citizen for 1949-'50. The student body and teachers chose Martha Bone and Randle Riley as the outstanding students in the Senior Class to receive the alumni awards. Martha Bone was chosen Basketball Queen. Two of our boys, Jerry Herron and Junior Utley, were out- standing first team players. The members of our class are as follows: President-------------------------------------Randle Riley Vice-President---------------------------------Jerry Herron Secretary-Treasurer---------------------------Martha Bone Sergeant-at-Arms--------------------------Robert Blanchard Ola Mae Johnston, Jo Nell Kirkwood, Anita Hollis, Katherine Weir (now Mrs. Osborne), Nancy Brown, Buddie Hale (now Mrs. Wilson), Helen Prow, Junior Utley, J. D. Franklin, Clyde Ratliff, E. L. Ramsey, and myself, Reed Peyton. Our sponsor is Mrs. Esmer Wyatt. - Reed Peyton The following is our class poem: 3n Tjlie Uorld J J3road 3ield °t J3attle The shade of time is falling fast, Yes, time is drawing nigh, The time has come, so we must face it And bid our friends good-bye. In the world's broad field of battle, Let us be heroes in the strife. Be not like dumb driven cattle In the blossoming of life. Greatly begin! Though we have time, Learning to labor and to wait. Not failure, but low aim is crime So let's not wait for the hand of fate. -Helen Prow 14 C aJJ Prophecy, After attending an alumni banquet held at Dalton High School, I am going to tell you about the lives of my former classmates. REED PEYTON and his wife are now living on a farm near Dalton. It seems that Reed is doing a great piece of farming. ANITA HOLLIS is now the owner of the Farmer's Daughter in Evansville. At the age of thirty, Anita says she is going to settle down someday. RANDLE RILEY is a professor in the University of Kentucky. Can you beat that? He was so dumb in school. OLA MAE JOHNSTON is living in the air these days. Ola Mae is an airplane stewardess for Eastern Air Lines in Chicago. HELEN PROW is married and also lives on a farm near Dalton. Helen is still riding in those up-to-date Ford cars. JUNIOR UTLEY is the owner of the great Utley's department stores in Beulah, Kentucky. JERRY HERRON is now a radio star. He has a part singing hillbilly songs with the Renfro Valley Gang. MARTHA BONE and her husband are now running Dawson Springs. Martha's husband is the mayor. KATHERINE WEIR has married that certain rich man and is living in Morton's Gap. ROBERT BLANCHARD is president of a big mine in the eastern part of Kentucky. It takes a big man for a big job. HICKIE RATLIFF is an auctioneer for the American Tobacco Company. Listen to the Lucky Strike program which comes on weekly and you will hear Mr. Ratliff. E. L. RAMSEY has now turned outlaw. E. L. has been playing outlaw parts in the movies for the past several years. JO NELL KIRKWOOD is married and living in Arizona. She owns no less than twelve ranches. J. D. FRANKLIN is our Farm Bureau Agent for Hopkins Company at the present time, and is doing a fine job. BUDDIE WILSON (the former Buddie Hale) is living in Dalton and is kept quite busy taking care of those five darling children of hers. And after wishing my classmates much more happiness I will have to continue my work in Evansville, teaching small children in an orphan's home. 15 Nancy Brown f Z)he Qrumbler We've got the funniest class 1 ever saw. They picked me to be the grumbler, but I can't understand why. I sure wish the cooks would measure their pepper with teaspoons instead of shovels. And those apples the cooks give us, they sure are big. It's a wonder they don't founder us. They are almost as big as partridge eggs. Peanut butter sandwiches, we have them everyday. They sure are a special with the cooks, but not with the students. If you're ever in the study hall, drop around to the books and autograph them for Mrs. Prow. There's plenty of dust. The way Mrs. Utterback teaches English you would think she expected us to learn it. She even gives me an F because I don't know anything. That Mrs. Wyatt sure is a case, looks like she would know we would rather talk than to beat on those old typewriters. Mr. Tapp sure doesn't have a bit of pity on us boys, why he won't even let us enjoy a cigar on the way home after a hard days work. It doesn't look like a little smoke would hurt his old bus. The coach we've got, boy his training rules beat all I ever saw. He won't even let us go out at night when he knows we would be back at 1:00 o'clock anyway. Has he forgotten that he was a boy once? Those honorary grade teachers are always hanging around waiting for the sec- ond bus. We could have lots of fun if it weren't for them. Our principal, whew is he a pain in the neck! A hundred words everyday in spelling is just a few words to him. All he has to do, of course, is give them out. Robert Blanchard 16 J abt %Vill and T)e tament KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS: DALTON HIGH SCHOOL, of the city of Dalton and county of Hopkins, state of Kentucky, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, and not acting under fraud, duress, menace, or the influence of any person whatsoever, do make, pub- lish, and declare this my last Will and Testament, of the Senior Class of 1950, in the manner, following, that is to say: Robert Blanchard wills his small and delicate figure to Ramon Parrish. Twelve games thus far have been played and four of them have been victories for the fast fighting Tigers. The first team consists of: RAYMOND MARTIN-forward, better known as fireball Martin. Martin has won a gold basketball for his excellent playing in the county tournament. His fast footwork and unerring shots has helped win victories for the team. He is a junior. Good luck, Martin, keep shooting. JUNIOR UTLEY-forward and captain, has been doing his part for the team. Since Utley is a senior, we feel sure that his skill of intercepting passes and his other good qualities will be missed next year. JAMES CURTRIGHT-center, is rough and ready. He is always at his best when he gets his dander up. Curtright is only a sophomore, what will he do next year? He is noted for his ability to tip in those balls that fall short of the goal. Keep trying, we're betting on you. JERRY HERRON-guard, Herron is still slinging in those beautiful left-handed shots, just short of center line. Herron is a senior and will be greatly missed by the remaining Tigers. FRANK LaPRADD-guard, LaPradd is known for those impossible shots. He manages to get them through the net, although no one knows how. He is a sophomore and still going strong. The best of luck, Frank. THORNTON DEVER is one of those rare coaches that plays the game with the boys. He grins when the boys play well, but chews his fingernails when things look bad.
