Representative: James Hunter . . . a year which will forever remain a cherished memory for all who walked the halls of Dalton High, because of the influence it had on our lives. The year began with the usual routine of registration as we greeted old friends and mingled with new faces dur- ing the process of getting pictures made, checking our eyesight, buying parking permits, and making ID's. The wait seemed endless, but we all enjoyed the chance to catch up on the latest news. 1. Karen Corn 2. Julie Stefanek 3. Mel Abernathy 4. Seniors have CAT SCRATCH FEVER! 10. North Georgia AA Champs We were, perhaps, bored with summer and we were eager for the excitement of fall and its many activities. This attitude intensified the enthusiasm of the first football game — the prelude to a great season. Cat- Scratch Fever became the school slogan as we cheered our mighty Catamounts onto one victory after another. The only setback was a heartbreaking 9-0 loss to arch-rival Murray County, which only served to increase our pride and determination. We showed support in a variety of ways — through pep sessions, band practices, and game attendance, along with ex- tremely loud vocal participation. The combination ap- parently was highly successful, for not only did our team emerge as the North Georgia Champions, but we developed the closeness and togetherness which was to characterize the entire year. Homecoming, as usual, was the event of the fall and we outdid ourselves this year. We cele- brated for a week, concentrating on making the usual activities of decorating houses, floats, and cars especially memorable. Of course, during this time we paid the same diligent attention to our studies, for homework was, as always, impossible to overlook. Throughout the year, for some reason, this problem seemed to invade each day. Perhaps it was because we also had the matter of classes and grades to contend with. However, we gained knowledge and learning from this daily conflict. Drama was another area in which we excelled. It took many long hours of rehearsals, but the reward of applause on opening night repaid us for our efforts. Suddenly it was winter, which ushered in the basketball season. The games provided us with an ex- cellent excuse for getting out of the house and seeing friends, as well as a reason for showing that DHS spirit. Winter was also the time for a special event in our lives — Sweetheart. Sweetheart consisted not only of Favorites, decorations, and the dance, but a general atmosphere of affectionate pride as we honored our- selves through deserving and beloved classmates. It belonged not only to those of us who had worked behind the scenes in preparation for the night, but one and all, for one of the unique qualities of Sweetheart was its ability to touch the hearts of everyone. This involvement extended outside of school, for the national news affected us as well as the news of the community. 1978 was definitely a year of interesting events and we had a part in their occur- rence. 1. A Simple Little System” — Bells Are Ringing” 8 the idea of involvement! 9 Women were still fighting for the cause of the ERA, as ratification had reached a standstill. Homosexuals began to seek rights too, and Anita Bryant became a controversial figure. The Panama Canal was a major issue and President Car- ter's proposal of turning the canal over to the Panamanians was finally accepted by Congress, with a few changes. President Carter also had to deal with Brother Billy and his money-making efforts, such as Billy Beer. The basic conflict between employees and employers was exemplified in the major strike of the coal-miners against their employers. The problems were finally resolved, but only after weeks of un- employment, hunger, and violence. Another strike had been instigated earlier in the year by farmers pro- testing the high prices of growing food and the sub- sequent lack of profit. Georgia farmers, in accordance with others all the nation, marched to the capital of Copyright permission Time. Newsweek. U S News and World Report the state on tractors to demonstrate. Of course, mov- ies and celebrities figured importantly in our lives. Star Wars and Saturday Night Fever became legendary cults, and John Travolta was propelled into super-stardom. Oh, God! presented a new view of religion. We lost many famous people this year, in- cluding Hubert Humphrey and Bing Crosby. But the death of Elvis affected millions. Rock and roll had lost the King; it would never be the same. The local Whit- field County Junior Miss Pageant was another impor- tant activity of the year. One of our own, Marla Martin, won the title and the Scholastic Award. She then went to the State where she won 3rd Runner-up and the Scholastic Award. This year we had dances after the home football games — the Fifth Quarter discos sponsored by the Pep Club. Then in the spring, an anonymous donor gave the entire school a Coke Day, with doughnuts! It was quite a year! We were also involved in all phases of Dalton High school, including the very active de- partment of organizations. No one was excluded, for DHS clubs appealed to a wide variety of interests and the popularity was not seasonal. But the weather was, and soon hints of spring were in the air. With spring came the deluge of spring sports and the annual spring musical. Evidently, spring was also especially devoted to the seniors, since the Juniors gave a dance, Junior-Senior, in their honor and the administration gave them the Senior Party, two very important events. The spring dances allowed us a chance to get together one last time before the onslaught of summer. It seemed as if the days were flying by, as we slowly realized that soon we would have the freedom of a three-month vacation from school. But we also knew that sometimes we lost con- tact with one another during this break, so we attemp- 1. Karen Morris 2. Janet Thomason 3. Nitra Griffin 4. Alan Thompson. Amy Morrison. Teachers were frantically trying to squeeze in a few more bits of information before exams, and we had to juggle our schedules to include this along with trips to the lake, water-skiing, and sunning. We managed, somehow. It was a time of re- flection, as we remembered the year in retrospect, in- cluding our mutual experiences. The Juniors, Soph- omores, and Freshmen would return to DHS, but the Seniors had to face an uncertain future, for gradua- tion was fast-approaching. For everyone, however, it was a time of love and sharing as we recalled a year of happiness, homework, pep-sessions, good times, dis- cos, and tears. It was 1978 . . . the Year of the Cat! Joe W. Elizabeth 9 We at Dalton High were fortunate in many ways, for our school is unique. Our enthusiasm, spirit, and pride were, as always, unsurpassed, and nowhere was this more evident than in our wide variety of activities. There was something for everyone. Sometimes it was hard to force ourselves to attend all those club meetings and practices, hut we always felt better after we did. Besides, they were a perfect excuse for meeting friends, having fun, and getting out of the house. Some activities changed with the seasons; if we did not find one to our liking in the fall, we could always catch up in the winter or spring. As the year progres- sed we discovered that our activities added much to our lives. Participation was an important part of the DHS experience. 49 The highlight of the fall sea- son began the week of Octo- ber 17 with Brainstorm sessions, committee meet- ings and just plain hard labor from right after school until — whenever. We were frantically busy, preparing dance decorations, floats and cars for that final big day, Friday. October 21 — Homecoming '77. Thursday night was the climax of the entire week, as people rushed to get floats together, tried to transform the Gym and the Commons into areas of Cat Magic , and braved the dark and the cold to encourage the football team with red and white crepe paper, signs, and spirit. There were not enough hours for everything, but we stayed out all night just to make sure. Friday finally came, carrying the promise of a beautiful day. Dal- ton High was already cluttered with obviously unfinished floats, and more were on the way. The hours passed all too quickly for those of us who were working hard to complete our masterpieces. Lunch was hard to come by, because if you did not want to eat in the commons you had to go through all the red tape of leav- ing campus. 1. Homeroom Repre- sentatives and their escorts returned from home suitably dressed for the upcoming pep session around fifth period. Students, parents, and the Honor Class of '57 slowly began to fill the gym as we all eagerly awaited the 1977 Homecoming Program and Pep Session. Emcees Joni Seehorn and Mark Hannah welcomed our guests and the program was well on its way. After introductions, the gym was silent as we anticipated the moment we had all been waiting for, the announcements of the Home- coming Court. Although the pro- gram was officially over, it would never be forgotten. The Cheerlead- ers took charge of the remaining minutes as the pep session part of the program began. We cheered and shouted, clapped and whistled, showing our Catamounts that we were behind them all the way. After school was the annual parade through downtown Dalton. Much labor and fun had been spent in preparation for this moment and the parade route seemed much too short and ended all too soon. Even before the last entry had pulled into Manly Street, the disassembly of our floats had begun. 1. Fenn Little. Lee McDaniel. Miles Curtin 2. Ernestine Hampton 3. Edward Burgess 4. OCTOBER 21, 1977 MPUS Paper, signs, flowers, and chicken wire were everywhere Now it was time for the clean-up committee to do its job. The game was next, but in the meantime, we had a couple of hours for rest and relaxation. The night was warm for autumn, and couples arriving at the game soon shed their heavy jackets, but not be- fore everyone had a chance to ad- mire each other s finery. Red and white mums added a touch of color to the student section as Dalton High fans watched the pregame fes- tivities which included the presenta- tion of the Queen and her court. At halftime the float winners were an- nounced. and the seniors cheered loudly when it was learned that they had won first place for the third year in a row. Many of us left early for the Homecoming Dance. In the com- mons area, the band, “Flinthill”, could be heard warming up. The Homecoming Dance lasted from 10:00 until 12:00. and as midnight approached, some of us began to collect souvenirs, while others went in different directions to other par- ties. We were still busy, but now our time was occupied with other things. More football games paved the way for the State Finals, which later gave way to swimming meets and the basketball season. Rehearsals for the competition and one-act plays were going strong, while the chorus and band prepared for contests. For- tunately, we did have some mo- ments for relaxing. Seeing movies and riding around were favorite pasttimes. The months passed very quickly, leaving behind many memo- ries. February finally arrived, and Sweetheart was just around the corner. 1. Actually, it had started much earlier, with nominations, nominations, and more nominations. However, that was not the end, for the nominees receiving the most votes were put on a ballot and we all voted again. The tradition of not announcing Mr. and Miss DHS and Sweetheart until the night of the dance was carried on, and the suspense of not knowing was unbearable. The Decorations committee did themselves proud, transforming the Commons into a fantasy world. But getting a date was the most important thing, and girls rushed to find the perfect' dress while guys had to choose between a tuxedo or a new suit. At 8:30 the program got underway as Emcees Ann Montanero and Jim Arnold in- troduced the Favorites, followed by the traditional slow dance. This year, the sweetheart Band committee hired a disco sound system out of Atlanta. The American Dream Scene. The idea met with a lot of resistance, but we were proved wrong. The basketball tournaments, the State swim meet, and talent show auditions kept us from becoming nostalgic. It was a time of transition, not winter but not quite spring. The unpredictable weather often caught us by surprise. It became hot when we wore sweat- ers and turned cold when we least expected it. And of course we never had a raincoat when it rained. Our moods reflected the weather, and we often found ourselves switching suddenly from laughter to tears. Spring fever was setting in, and we welcomed it, especially seniors. There were team sports like football, basketball, and baseball for those of us who valued teamwork and cooperation, while the more in- dividualized sports of swimming, tennis, and track attracted those who preferred to concentrate on de- veloping their own particular skills. This year, Dalton High once again proved to be ahead of the rest. Tak- ing advantage of the current interest in gymnastics, we added a gymnas- tics team to the existing favorites. Almost everyone participated in some kind of physical activity — ei- ther on a team, individually, or in a P.E. class. But whatever the excuse for getting outdoors, we all tried our competitive best. Sore muscles, ach- ing feet, and exhaustion were often the result, but we still had fun. Sports provided an outlet for student energy, and Dalton High received more than its share of honors and trophies. But more important, we worked hard and upheld the DHS tradition of playing the game ' with determination, enthusiasm, and pride. 1. Catamount Touchdown! 2. The swim team also did well, mak- ing its mark at the State meet. Many qualified and placed in the finals, while a junior, Amy Freeman, took first place in diving. The Dalton boys even shaved their bodies for the big night. Spring Quarter ap- proached more quickly than we expected, and all of the spring sports were well underway before the Spring holidays. In preparation of the season, the baseball team travaled to Florida for Spring training during Spring break. The track teams, both boys and girls, were challenged to repeat their previous per- formances for the possession of the Region crown while the tennis teams faced tougher schedules in their fight to retain the Region title. 1977 CATAMOUNT VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM 1977 Catamount Co-Captains: Waymond McDade and Brad Kneeling: MANAGERS — Ricky Sapp and Steve Sharpe. The word Catamount became known and feared all over the state and not without good cause. The Dalton football team started the season with an impressive win over arch-rival Rossville. The Bulldogs came to town with high hopes, only to be scorched by a redhot Catamount team, 21-0. The Cats were now ranked number one in the state by virtually every poll, including UPI, the At- lanta Constitution and the Atlanta Jour- nal. But the Murray County game was a disaster which proved to be a blessing in disguise. Almost any team has to lose at some point or another and the Indians only helped put Dalton back on the win- ning track after temporarily derailing us 9-0. Catamounts don’t believe in crying over spilt milk but in every case we bounce back with the will, determination and ease that is typical of Dalton High. The Cats proved they still had what it takes by defeating the Calhoun Yellow- jackets to the tune of 41-0. We then traveled to Ringgold and proved that our latest victory was no fluke as the Catamounts sent the Tigers home with a 28-0 loss pinned to their record. By this time the Catamounts were underrated at fifth in the state with a number ten ranked Chattooga squad coming to Dal- ton who had not lost a game or allowed an opponent to score a single point. The Catamounts met the challenge head on and emerged victorious, 8-0, much to the dismay of Chattooga and to the de- light of all Dalton fans. The next two games were on the road and the Catamounts took many dedicated fans with them. Lafayette should have ram- bled while they could before the Catamounts stopped their engines cold with an embarrassing 49-7 defeat. Lakeview fared no better than the Ramblers when Dalton came to visit. The Warriors tried everything, including shutting off the lights, but their efforts were to no avail as we lighted up a 26-7 victory on the scoreboard. Homecoming brought the Catamounts back home with Fannin County traveling from Blue Ridge only to suffer a 55-12 loss to Dal- ton. Chattanooga Valley once sat at the top of the 6-AA pile before Dalton de- cided to play king of the hill and knocked the Eagles for a loop right off the top of the stack. Now came the last regular season game and Northwest had high hopes of catching the Catamounts off guard as they had almost done in the '76 season. But the Catamounts never make the same mistake twice. Dalton gave the crowd what they wanted to see, despite the downpour that drenched, but failed to dampen, the spirits of the players, coaches, fans and cheerleaders. The only dampened spirits were in the hearts of the Bruins as they saw their team easily defeated 35-0. The 6-AA Re- gion Championship game against the Chattooga Indians disputed the old say- ing Lightening never strikes twice. Lightening may not, but obviously Catamounts do, because for the second time in one season Chattooga returned home on the short end, with a 36-8 ver- dict signed, sealed and delivered by the obstinate Dalton squad. The Stephens County Indians were perhaps Dalton's biggest threat thus far, as they were big, fast and dangerous. If not for the heroics performed that night by the great Dalton defense, the interception that set up the lone Dalton TD and the first successful field goal, the Catamounts would have returned home victims instead of victors toting a 9-7 victory. That quarter final game only set the stage for Dalton's third straight North Georgia Champi- onship game in which the leading roles were played by the highly regarded Gor- don Generals and the capable Catamount team. The Catamounts stole the show with a convincing 20-12 victory over the Generals and headed to Wayc- ross for the state championship title playoff. 1978 was no different from past years as chants of All the way to state!!' were heard from the beginning of the season. But the distinctive factor which makes '78 a unique year is that this goal was achieved! The fact that the Catamounts made it to the State Cham- pionship is an honor in itself. Being one of only two teams in the state to com- pete for the title says a lot for the charac- ter, pride and determination of the Catamounts. For it takes much maturity and leadership to come away on the short end of that 16-7 count, and that team makes us all proud to say I am a Catamount. 71 Top: Kenny Sharp turns the corner during a fabulous punt return against Fannin County. The pleasant surprise came from the Baseball Team. For the first time in more than ten years they captured the coveted Region Championship. Their home field soon earned the name of Death Diamond ”. Boys and girls Tennis Teams retained their Region Titles. The girls advanced Karo Wilson, Michel Bates, and Pam Purvis to Sub-State competition with Region wins in singles and doubles. Mark McGlade grabbed second in sing- les for the boys, while Walter Thompson and Wes Mul- linax won the doubles tournament in order to obtain Sub-State birth. The Golf Team hosted the Region Tournament and was narrowly nosed out of first by Calhoun. John Morris was low medalist and thus played in the State Tournament in Gainesville. The Girls' Track Team, lead by Darlene Hunt, held their Region Track Title with ease. The Girls Softball Team was in the process of rebuilding and only tallied a few wins. The Gymnastics Team, coached by Karen Pic- cola, tumbled into action by knocking off all their op- ponents. 101 EDITORS: ELIZABETH SNELL, RODNEY CRAW- FORD, HILARY STEVE. 104 ► ♦ ♦ ' ♦ • 'Ziamore 1 oro 7 ’ f 4rw oaston 109 110 jHc _ ( c vta Zu '0(0 ZZZv xi f ZomitA CZa Z . oro fu art ? fe Zar 111 ° ii otl 7h sorites Phr ' r jlfar m eruor crro no ns DHS Service Award, 95 Average, Art Award, Optimist Citizenship Award JCOtt Oczm r Senior Citizenship Award, Op- timist Citizenship Award, Ken- neth Finkle Memorial Schol- arship Star Student, 95 Average O ram eff Alt Anderson Outstanding Athlete Award Rotary Scholarship, Rotary En- glish Award, 95 Average, National Merit Commendation, UDC Schol- arship, Undergraduate Assis- tantship in Journalism — Univer- sity of Georgia, Junior Miss Schol- arship Award, Senior Citizenship Award, Third Place Elks Club Most Valuable Student ( c JM Bausche-Lombe Science Medal, Junior Woman s Club Science Award, 95 Average 1 14 mm s vu Janice Meadows Drama Award Senior Citizenship Award oSbr, m £i DHS Service Award. Service Award; M 119 As we began the 1978 school year, we soon became totally immersed in the Dalton High experience. In our classes, we either searched for more knowledge, using the tools that our teachers provided, or we dis- covered new ways to avoid over-extending ourselves. Falling asleep was one of the most widely used methods. However, DHS did excel in the area of orga- nizations, which had universal appeal for students. 1. Marti Bryson 2. Some organizations helped us to develop talents or skills and instilled in us the spirit of teamwork and cooperation, while others gave us a chance to contribute our services to our community. We had organizations that helped us to further our academic interests, or to explore career possibilities. We even had clubs that gave us valuable on the job training. Wherever we turned, we were offered excel- lent opportunities to participate, which we took. No matter what we were involved in, we served the school and ourselves, by adding a new dimension to our growth. CATAMOUNT BAND DIRECTORS MELVIN MORGAN MICKEY FISHER roger McLendon Angie Orr. The staff was composed of a cross-section of the student body, who worked diligently to make Cat Tales a success. During the fall and winter quarters, the staff was busy compiling its poems, essays, and various articles into a magazine, which was completed in early March. A second issue was then planned, which was sold before the end of school. STAFF CO-EDITORS: Elizabeth Meek. Fall Laura Bailey. We were faced with impossible choices; whether to go to band practice, club meetings, or play practice, or maybe to track meets, baseball games, or tennis matches instead. No matter which way we de- cided. we were certain to have fun, for spring fever had reached epidemic proportions and everyone was infected. However, unfortunately, most teachers re- -o •a 1. In fact, teachers seemed to favor third quarter as the perfect time for term papers, reports, and plenty of homework! Somehow we managed to stay involved without letting our grades suffer. (Maybe just a little.) The weather, for the most part, was beautiful and the temptation to stay outdoors was too much to resist, even during the occasional cold spells. Shorts, sun- dresses, and bare feet became the symbols of the sea- son. We worked hard and we played hard, enjoying ourselves thoroughly. These final three months drew us closer and closer together, for summer was fast approaching. 153 Drama plays an important role at Dalton High, and this year was no exception. Old pros returned and cajoled new- comers into auditioning. We soon realized that we enjoyed developing our dramatic talents. In fact, most of us discovered that, deep-down in- side, we were all hams . Rehear- sals for the first production of God's Trombones began early in the fall, since the performance dates were November 10 and 12. God’s Trombones” was a unique collage of sermons by Negro preachers com- bined with Negro spirituals. The par- ticipation of the DHS Chorus in sing- ing the spirituals added depth and meaning to the production. It was a departure from the usual type of show produced at DHS and we learned much from the experience. The winter play was a series of three One-Acts, performed on February 2 and 3. The Apollo of Bellac, , Trifles , and The Bald Soprano” provided an evening of enjoyment for all of us who were able to attend. The three plays incorporated ele- ments of comedy, melodrama, and tragedy, which demonstrated the broad scope of theatre. The One- Acts also proved to be extremely well cast and many new faces were seen. 1. Bruce Mitchell — Director — The Bald Soprano 2. Brad Cline. Melinda Holsomback 3. Susan Freedman. Cast of Apollo of Bellac 154 155 156 Along with the dramatic pro- ductions, we had several other activities that show- cased the performing arts. March 16 was the date for the annua? DHS Talent Show. This year's Em- cees, Ann Montanero, Mark Lancas- ter, Carolyn Sparks, and Mark King, introduced a variety of acts, includ- ing singers, dancers and musicians, as well as novelty numbers. 1st place was awarded to Todd Hahn, who played a medley of popular songs on the piano. The 2nd place winners were the Bee Bees, Mark Hannah, Robert Cherof. Mel Abernathy, Allen Posten, David Gibson, and Russell Dirks, who performed Night Fever . Allen Posten won 3rd with a piano rendition of Maple Leaf Rag . International Night, another popular event, was on April 11. The foreign language students planned the fes- tivities using Latin, French, and Spanish food, decorations, and cos- tumes. During the same week we had still more entertainment as the DHS Chorus presented “Vaudeville Days' on April 13 and 14. The show was divided into two parts, a formal section and a vaudeville” section. Although we liked the formal part, it was the different style and varied songs of the vaudeville section that we really enjoyed. Vaudeville Days” was a huge success! 1. However those days weren’t wasted, as girls and guys started searching the attics for just the right outfits, groups frantically practiced their intricate routines, and the FCA got busy transforming the old gym. Finally, the big night arrived, and we strolled into the Hop with the utmost cool. Poodle skirts, rolled-up jeans, rolled-down bobbie sox, and pony- tails were everywhere, along with greased DA's, penny loafers, ragged T-shirts, and black leather jackets. Soon we were all bopping to the music of the fifties — Chubby Chec- kers, the Shirelles, Dion, and of course, Elvis. We even had a sur- prise number from the King himself as part of the great entertainment! There was something for everyone, including a variety of wild groups, and limbo, hula-hoop, and bubble gum blowing contests. We really hung loose, with dances like the Twist, the Pony, and the Shag. But before we knew it, it was time to split. Most of us then headed for downtown Dalton and dragging Main. It was the perfect ending for a night in the 50's. 1. Jim Arnold. Michelle Bates 2. Not only did it contain the Hop, but there was another dance on April 29 — Junior Senior. Juniors had been meeting and working for weeks in order to plan refreshments and decorations around the theme of “Up, Up and Away.” Invitations were sent to all upperclassmen's homerooms and suddenly it was the night of April 29th. Most of us ar- rived at the gym promptly at 8:00, so that we could get in line for pictures. Of course we were decked in our finest — girls either in romantic, frilly formals or bare, slinky dresses and guys in stylish suits or tuxedos. The decorations added a perfect touch and balloons were everywhere. Music was provided by the band, '‘Clipper.’' Couples danced or visited with friends until 9:30, when the Senior Walk-In be- gan. Then we devoted ourselves to having a good time. As usual, the dance was officially over at mid- night, but to us the night was young and we continued our festivities by eating out, going to breakfasts or just fooling around. Bells Are Ringing involved many highly unusual and hilarious characters, including a musical dentist, a Vie- nnese bookie masquerading as the owner of a classical record company, and a Marlon Brando type actor. How- ever, the burden of responsibility of the shop rested on the main characters — Ella Peterson and Jeff Moss. At first, rehearsals were slow and tedious. We had our doubts, wondering if the show would ever come to- gether. Yet, the final week of dress rehearsals proved that, once again, the spring musical would be success- ful in providing a night of enjoyment for all who at- tended. As the curtain of the final performance closed, we realized how close we had become in the last few weeks. Make-up, costumes and flowers were put away, for all good things must end. But the night was not quite over, and it was on to the cast party for the celebration! 4 4 m ► P « p P P p P 1. Scott Farrow 2. Carolyn Sparks 3. Matt Cook 4. Susan Freedman 5. M Allen Posten 6. MAY 27, 1978, MPUS The year was almost over and almost all activities had ceased. One last party re- mained — the Senior Party. Seven o'clock on May 27 signaled the arrival of a variety of oddly- dressed characters as they found their way to the Commons. The theme was Fantasy Island, and we let our imaginations run wild! Cow- boys, Southern belles, even Ronald McDonald dominated the scene. Senior Superlatives were an- nounced by Sir Purlative, Mr. Bob Brown. Candles were presented to the guys, while the girls were given leis. Then came our entertainment, provided by Scott Farrow, Andrea Freedman, Allen Posten, Debra Hen- ton and Elizabeth Meek. It was a film concerning the various schools of the Seniors, beginning with first grade and continuing through the high school years of DHS. Many other people contributed their time and efforts toward the making of the film. After the film, it was time to dance! The disco started and didn't stop until midnight. The Senior Party was a terrific excuse for the seniors to get together, and the closeness and fun of that night will never for- gotten. 1. Kim Purvis 2. Most Original —Alix Haynie. Dalton High School — a place we've grown to love and cherish over the years, a place forever etched in our minds, a place recalling nappy memories, good friends and days of carefree youth. Days that we'll never live again — days in which we never thought of the future, especially that day of graduation which was always an eternity away. High school gave us a chance to grow close to each other, to share our thoughts and ideas, and to experience each other's friendships. We've also been given the chance to grow up, something that happens to all of us much more quickly than we'd like to believe. Now we have to go our separate ways and part with friends we've laughed, played, joked and matured with for the past twelve years. Friends that will never be forgotten and others that in later years we'll recognize when we pass on the street and say Hey, don't I know you?” Graduation is many feel- ings; feelings of sadness knowing we'll never pass this way again, feelings of relief to end four years of hard work and feelings of anticipation towards a whole world waiting for us to emerge as new indi- viduals. Dalton High has taught us a great deal, but most of all Dalton High has taught us to put every- thing we've got into anything we do, because at DHS we strive to be the best! We've learned much and it's time to move on, to a new place, with new people, but we'll look fondly back on our years here at DHS . . . and simply smile. ' V' vv,;. HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1.
