FRENCH CLUB The French Club is a school sponsored club. Stu- dents having one year of French are eligible for membership. The purpose of the French Club is to promote interest in the French language and civ- ilization. Some of the activities include an annual trip to a French restaurant in Atlanta and c French dinner in the home of one of the members. Mem- bers: Martha Whiterer, Mary Julian Lumpkin, Nor- ris Little, Anne Chance, Wesley Chance, Debbi Jor- dan, Chip Kreischer, Fran Burger, Angela Hullender, Tracy Ward, Steve Yeargin, Mitch Maret. Advisors: Mr. and Mrs. Miller. SCIENCE CLUB The Science Club is an organization composed of people interested in further development of their interest in science. There are four basic goals; to encourage continuation of scientific education, to invite ex- perienced local people to speak on scientific subjects, to go on field trips to see science working in the environment, and to do special projects. Any high school student is eligible to join, and the only re- quirement is a genuine interest in science and learning. FTA Future Teachers of America an organization formed to pre- serve high standards of teaching and to encourage prospective teachers, professors, and administrators. It stresses the need of responsibility, character, and the importance of student encour- agement. The annual project was a rummage sale held in No- vember. Any high school student may join. HERO Home Economics Related Occupations are affili- ates of Future Homemakers of America. The HERO Chapter of Dalton High is composed of those stu- dents who are preparing for a career with children. Each student in the Occupational Child Devel- opment class is a member of the club and the chap- ter functions very closely with class activities. Some of the projects in which the chapter has participated this year are a Halloween party for Fredrick Street Day Care Center, Christmas stockings for the Cheerhaven children, and preparation of cot sheets for the day care center. The Chapter also aims at developing leadership and initiative by allowing stu- dents to plan and carry out their projects.
