Redding The Beacon is the school newspaper published by the Journalism II class. The paper is published eight times during the school year and is sold by subscription. This year, as part of a sales promotion, the Beacon gave away prizes of food, gasoline, dance lessons, and others to its subscribers who were picked in a drawing. The number of subscribers is approximately 500. Members of the staff work in both areas of writing and page layout: working on the paper staff gives the staff members preparation for the journalism field. Mr. Baldwin continues as the advisor to the Beacon staff. 24

Stnmbach Dallastown is proud to have several of its students chosen for district organizations. The district orchestra was guest directed by Capt. Lowell E. Graham, who also conducts the U.S. Air Force String Orchestra. They performed Feb. 5, 6, and 7 in Gettysburg. The district chorus was conducted by Gerald Mack, who is guest conductor of the Hartt School of Music, University of Hartford. The district band performed Jan. 22, 23, and 24 in Hanover. The school orchestra performed at the York Mall during the Christmas season. At school, they performed in the Christmas concert and assembly, and school musical.

The Sound Of Music This year's musical was the Sound of Music, one of this countries best loved musicals. It was performed on April 3rd and 4th, by students in the high school and for the first time this year students in the middle school. Middle school students were asked to participate in the cast this year because of the need for portrayal of small children. The theme of, the Sound of Music, centered around Maria, the lead character, and her involvement with the Von Trapp family. Maria goes to the Von Trapps to be governess to the six Von Trapp children. Many conflicts arise between Maria and the master of the house Captain Von 'Frapp. Inevitably, Maria and the Captain get married, and together they take the children across the boarder to escape from Nazi rule.
