Pennsylvania. l BOTH SIDES NOW Bows and flows of angel hair. And ice cream castles in the air. And feather canyons ev'rywhere. I've looked at clouds that way. But now they only block the sun. They rain and snow on ev'ryone. So many things I would have done. But clouds got in my way. I've looked at clouds from both sides now. From up and down and still somehow It's clouds illusions I recall; I really don't know clouds at all. Moons and lunes and ferris wheels. The dizzy dancing way you feel. As ev'ry fairy' tale comes real. I've looked at love that way. But now it's just another show. You leave 'em laughing when you go. And if you care, don't let them know. Don't give yourself away. I've looked at love from both sides now. From give and take and still somehow It's loves illusions I recall; I really don't know love at all. Tears and fears and feeling proud. To say I love you right out loud. Dreams and schemes and circus crowds. I've looked at life that way. But now old friends are acting strange. They shake their heads, they say I've changed. But something's lost but something's gained. In living ev'ry day. I've looked at life from both sides now. From win and lose and still somehow It's lifes illusions I recall; I really don't know life at all. Class Song I've Cotta Be Me Class Poem By Melissa Imes School days have come and gone so fast. With joys and with tears; And now that we have reached the last. We'll treasure all these years. Upon a turning point we stand - Life's seen from both sides now. And though there's much to understand. We're eager all the while. For we must take all we have learned. And with courage unfurled We go, knowing that we've been turned Out to challenge the world! Whether I'm right or whether I'm wrong - Whether I find a place in this world or never belong. I've gotta be me! I've gotta be me! What else can I lx but what I am? I want to live! Not merely survive! And I won't give up this dream of life that keeps me alive! I've gotta be me! I've gotta lx me! The dream that I see makes me what I am. That far away prize, a world of success. It's waiting for me if I heed the call. I won't settle down, or settle for less. As long as there's half a chance that I can have it all! I'll go it alone. That's how it must be. I can't be right for somebody else if I'm not right for me I've gotta lx free! I've gotta be free! Daring to try to do it or die! I've gotta be me! 6 DON JAMES ADAMS OWEN M AlDINGER DAVID LEE ANDERSON SALLY ANN ARNOLD DON JAMES ADAMS - Ads; College Prep; Health and Physical Education; Wrestling l( 2, 3, 4; Baseball 1, 2, 3, 4; Homeroom Officer OWEN MYRON ALDINGEK - Otis; College Prep; Biology Researcher; Band 1; Track I, 3 DAVID LEE ANDERSON - Dave; College Prep; Health and Physical Education Major; Senior Band I. 2. 3, 4; Track 1, 2. 3, 4; Cross Country 1.2, 3, 4; Advisory Council 4 SALLY ANN ARNOLD - Sal; College Prep; Registered Nurse; Cheerleading 1, 2, 3, 4; Varsity Captain 4; JV Captain 3; ETA 2; Spectator Business Staff 4; Homeroom Officer 4; Intramurals 3, 4; Homecoming Court 4 BRENDA ANN AYRES - Bren; College Prep; Creative Writing: Girls Chorus 1, 2, 3; Play Committees 3, 4; Intramurals 4; Spectator Literary Staff 4; Concert Choir 4. To all those who knew him, he was a quiet, unassuming young man. Known, probably, best around school as a basketball manager, Bennie was liked by all who knew him. Bennie realized that he would not be able to participate in athletics, so he decided that he would become a basketball manager in order to make some contribution to his school. This lesson we should all learn from him. That is, to use what physical and mental ability we possess to become a posi- tive force in our society. Bennie Wambaugh was such a young man. 48 ACTIVITIES STUDENT COUNCIL Executive 52 ROW 1: S. Shultz, E. Smith, Mrs. McCoy, C Blouse, P. Diehl, P. Riedel; ROW 2: S. Shirey, D. Mitzel, L Jacobs, S. Upon her arrival in Dallastown August, 8, she was immediately impressed with the big cars, warm weather and T.V. commercials. Within a short time, her face became a familiar sight to both students and faculty alike. 54 Foreign Exchange Gunvor thinks the school buses look funny. In Sweden she was used to riding the city bus to school. I like English class. We study many things I have not studied before. After long hours of study, Gunvor rounded out her days with various extracurricular activities. Among these were practicing with the majorettes, serving on Senior committees and speech making. She also parti- cipated in girls' intramural sports by being a member of the Bollie Rollers' basketball and volleyball teams. When not involved in her own activities, one could always count on seeing the tall, blonde Swede at the various athletic contests. One of the highlights of her stay was Dallastown's championship football season. All good things must come to an end, and Gunvor's stay in Dallastown is unfortunately no exception. The Gunnet family as well as all the many others who came to know and love her will be diminished some- what by her departure. Gunvor and her sister, Louise 55 The Happy Wanderers' This year, for the second time, one of our students participated in the Americans Abroad Program. During the summer of 1969, Elizabeth Smith visited Switzer- land under the auspices of the American Field Service. Staying in the town of Grenchen with her family, the Becks, she studied, saw the sights, and represented Dallastown and America as a teen-age ambassador of good will. It starred (on alternate nights) Pam Flinchbaugh and Linda Shirey in the role of Gretchen and Mark Heller as Captain Hendrik. The play was the tale of a thwarted love, two American con-men, a French traveler, and the biggest wedding in the history of the town Katwyk-An-Zee, all revolving around the ghost of the red mill. Also appearing in the production were Keith Bupp as Kid Conner, Scott Workinger as Con Kidder, Dave Shultz as Frantz, Leta Jo Myers and Shirley Shultz as Tina and Merv Keeney as Gaston. 64 CONCERT CHOIR Officers: S. It is the culmination of twelve years of education, competition and fellowship. There is an inevitable sense of sorrow and loss connected with the ceremony, and rightly so; graduation marks the ending of the juvenile years and the begin- ning of a life-time of self-sufficiency. It is the last time you will see many of your friends for years. And yet graduation can also be viewed as a milestone in your life, as the point at which you begin to think for yourself, without the structured discip- lines of a high school environment. For most, it will mean traveling to a new school in a new town with new friends and a new environment. For all it is a moving, meaningful experience that increases in meaning as the years pass. It is the time when we finally realize that . . . SOMEWHERE . . . IN MEMORIAM This section of the yearbook is dedicated to the memory of James Trimble, who died early this year in an automobile accident. It was on the eve of the football game that would have been the happiest day of his life, the game that won Dallastown the York County Football Championship. The 53-0 victory over Spring Grove was empty, however, without the presence of the one who perhaps worked hardest to make it possible. Jim Trimble's death was painful to almost everyone at Dallastown, but it would be even more painful if we did not pause to remember the kind of person he was. So, sometime during the end-of-school madness of late May and early June, stop and remember Jersey number 65! 84 VARSITY BASKETBALL TOPS EASTERN DIVISION - Earns Playoff Spot For District III EASTERN DIVISION: FINAL STANDINGS Dallastown 14- 3 Eastern 12- 5 York Suburban 10- 7 Red Lion 7-10 Susquehannock 6-11 Kennard-Dale 6-11 All is cense as Smiley shoots! Our theme this year is “Both Sides Now, so we are going to try to show all sides of life at Dallastown. And on the other side of the student body are the faculty and administration, the people who keep this school running well enough so that it doesn't come down around our ears. We intend to view both sides of the faculty, too; from this year's new student teachers up to administrators like Dr. Grimm, who received a doctorate from Lehigh University this year.
