CLASS OF 1969 Suzy Barshingcr, See.; Merv Keeney, V.P.; Mr. Smith, Adv. ; Lcnn Daugherty, Pros.; Crystal Krcidlcr, Trcas. TIME by Nancy Fischer Today, with all it holds, It too, will pass away. More days will follow this; Each its own, bright new day. Turn to face tomorrow. It does not hold the past. Make of it what you can, Each will pass much too fast. Tomorrow will be gone, In less time than you know. Many days are wasted- Even before they go. Try to make each day count, In all things that you do. Mornings faced with courage- Evenings bring peace to you. The time to look backward, Is when time is no more. Measure then the fullness- Ere slowly shuts the door. TIME'S MEMORIES Lyrics by Leta Jo Myers Tune of SOMEWHERE, from West Side Story” Time is an eternity with lasting memories, And the memory of high school days. In our minds to stay. The times; the good and bad. Events, both happy and sad, Time won’t change them, where ere we go, No matter what we do, or whom we know. Minutes, hours, quickly moving by us, Sufferings and hardships will try us. Yet always . . . Memories within our minds Recalling high school times, Friends and teachers we used to know, What happened to them? Where did they go? Memories, lingering in our minds. . . . and they're all mine! Angie, as she is known to her friends, is spending her year at Dallastown with her host family, Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Hershner, Jr. and her American sister Beth. Angie's first impressions were: Dallastown is a big school ... so many students . . . got lost at first . . . everybody is friendly and tries to help. Angie hopes to remember everything, especially her friends, but also her unique experiences of Homecoming, football games, wrestling matches, and her first sight of snow. On her return home she plans to go on to co liege to study sociology. She en- joys her American life, but is anxious to learn to drive. When she returns home, we will miss Angie, but her personality and radiant smile will linger in our memories. 85 NASC AMERICANS ABROAD Kathy Fry This summer Dallastown's first American Field Service exchange student, Kathy Fry, spent the summer with a host Turkish family. The summer program started June 22, as the S.S. Waterman left from the port in New York City. The orien- tation was accomplished during the Atlantic crossing. Included daily were two hours of Turkish language lessons, one hour of Turkish culture, and one hour of group discussion of world affairs. July I, the ship arrived in Rotterdam. The fifty-six AFS'crs bound for Turkey flew to Istan- bul. Kathy then traveled by small plane to Bursa where she was met by her Turkish family. She re- sided in Bursa for nine weeks with her Turkish mother, father, two brothers, four sisters, and a niece. The conclusion of her stay was highlighted by an AFS planned tour of Ankara, the capital, and Istanbul, the largest city of Turkey. On August 31, the American AFS'crs left their host country to return home by chartered jet. The following day was spent at Hafstra University in New York for evaluations of the students' experiences. Connilu Civlcr On July 7, Connilu Civlcr went to Washington, D.C. for orientation as a member of the Fifth European Tour for International Understanding, sponsored by the National Association of Student Councils. Following orientation, Connilu flew by chartered jet to London, England where the tour began. After a five-day stay, she and 131 other American high school seniors crossed the English Channel by steamer and then traveled by bus to Paris, France. While on the mainland, the group traveled in two motor coaches, making several stops in Switzerland, Italy, Yugoslavia, Austria, Germany, Belgium, and The Netherlands. On the basis of her experience, Connilu feels that the purpose of the tour was achieved. The purpose was to expose a selected group of high school student leaders to new places and different cultures with the expectation that when they re- turned to their home communities, they would call upon their experiences to develop and par- ticipate in a program for the improvement of international understanding. The opportunity to live in a foreign home for a brief period, to sec the beauty of other cultures, to try her wings at speaking a foreign language to natives of that language, and to live for a period in close contact with many other teenagers were the unforgettable highlights of this past sum- mer's dream come true. 86 PRINCESSES MISS KIMBERLY IMES MISS CONNIE CASTRIOTA k MISS ARIANE XAVIER MISS SUSAN BARSHINGER MISS BRENDA HIVELY — 2 MISS CRYSTAL KREIDLER MISS BONNIE BLACK President Merv Keeney and Advisor Mr. Henry look at the charter. The ingredients for a successful production were all present: a hilarious story line involv- ing two girls of the 20's (one an empty-headed blonde played by Kay Dietz; the other a level- headed brunette portrayed by Debbie Coffey) who sail for Europe and manage to get them- selves into every imaginable predicament on both land and sea; skillful directing by Miss Audrey Schaefer and assistants Debbie Jacobs and Debbie Fetcko; a talented and cooperative cast; and innumerable hard-working commit- tees . The play was extremely well-received by Dallastown audiences on both Thursday and Saturday nights. This is undoubtedly due to the fact that it was fast-moving as well as humor- ous. Anyone who attended Gentlemen Prefer Blondes expecting a run-of-the-mill amateur- ish production with the usual forgotten lines and wobbly scenery was in for a pleasant sur- prise. Hard work and genuine interest by all involved paid off in as unexpectedly profes- sional final product. JUNIOR PLAY Keep the pace, baby! It just isn't fair! ••PRIDE AND PREJUDICE The class of 1969 presented as their senior play Jane Austin's romantic comedy PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. Based on the energetic efforts of Mrs. Bennet (Sue Neff) to find suit- able mates for her daughters Elizabeth (Debbie Coffey), Jane (Karen Jacobs), and Lydia (Sue Barshinger), the play proved enjoyable for both cast and audience. In their roles oppo- site the female members of the cast, the boys: Mr. Bennet (Alan Heller), Mr. Darcy (Dana Renoll), Mr. Bing ley (Merv Keeney), and Mr. Wickham (John Martin) demonstrated their acting prowess. Those who saw the play were aware pos- sibly of only a small part of the work invol- ved. Behind every successful production are a lot of hard working committees, and our senior play was no exception. In addition to committee work, good direction is also a must; and we were certainly not lacking in that field. Aided by student director Debbie Jacobs, Mrs. Keller saw to it that our play was as nearly perfect as possible. Although those students involved in the play lost some sleep in trying to learn lines, obtain cos- tumes, and construct scenery, everyone agreed that the end in this certainly justified the means.
