2W llastovun, School predents the 1957 Spectator 5£)aff(titown rennsttL enniulvanui 1 The class of 1957 feels that it is an extreme privilege to he able to dedicate this volume of the Spectator to Mr. Robert H. Hays. In this way we hope to thank him for the constant efforts he has made for the students. We know that he is first, last, and always in- terested in the student’s welfare. By his teach- ing, tempered with good humor and under- standing, by his willingness to help whenever needed, he has always been not only a teacher, but an adviser and friend. May this dedication express the appreciation and respect he deserves. Robert H. Hays, B.S., M.Ed. Top: Mr. Hays helps Janet Bowman de- cipher a difficult section of transcription. The Wild- cats won the first Laurel Conference game by defeating Kennard- Dale 12-6. Keckler and Cohn posted Dallastown’s six-pointers. The Wildcats lost stellar quarterback, Barry Keckler, who fractured bis right knee. Under the lights at Small’s Athletic Field, the Wildcats defeated Susquehannock 13-0. Norman Seitz starred for Dallastown. The “homeless” Wildcats were defeated 27-7 by Biglerville. On a rain-swept field. Susquehannock found re- venge as they defeated Dallastown 18-13, in the final game of the season. Dallastown’s Wildcats ended the season with a record of 3 wins and 6 losses. The mem- bers were busiest during the activity periods and study halls. Ninety new books—fiction, science, religion, biography, his- tory, and the arts—were added to the library. At the beginning of the year, the members of the Library Club assisted Miss Perry with mending the old books, dusting the shelves, and placing the new books in their proper places. 25 Mary Perry Dallustown Robert H. The Senior Chorus is noted for their fine rendition of college level choral arrangements. And this year’s chorus, backed by one of the strongest male sections in the history of the chorus, provided no exceptions to that honor. Carolyn Raah was president of the Senior Cho- rus. Bonnie Jean Fix, a splendid pianist, accom- panied the chorus. 4fi the CL OTOJ The members of the Junior Chorus rehearse their numbers for the Nite of Music. The merger of two families was the plot of ‘ A Heady Made Family” which you saw on November fifteenth or sixteenth at the Memorial Auditorium. The cast of ten was directed by Mrs. William Richardson. A widow, Agnes Martyn, played by Karen Leader, and Henry Turner, a widower portrayed by Ralph Stahl, met on a vacation and became engaged. Rut neither mentioned to the other the fact that they had children. With each family distrusting the other the plot began to thicken, but after two merry hours Agnes and Henry straightened out everything. Adding to the merriment, were Agnes’ son, Rob, played by Kent Sprenkle; the elder daugh- ter, Marilee, portrayed by Nancy Grey; the younger daughter, Gracie, played by Faye Krout; and Miss Lydia, her sister-in-law, played by Connie Raab. Shiela Gemmill and Charles Sny- der, as Doris and Sammie, played Henry’s two children. The Dallastown Area High School's base- ball season consisted of a regular ten-game schedule in the Southern Division of the York County Scholastic Baseball League. Dallastown emerged the only undefeated team in the Southern Division on April 25 by handing Susquehannock its first setback. Pre- viously the Wildcats had scored a 4-1 win over Eastern and had defeated Red Lion’s defending champions. Dallastown High ended its scoring famine after 27 innings without a run, but dropped its fourth consecutive game, losing to Susquehan- nock by 10-6 on May 11. These defeats were handed the Wildcats by the Red Lion, Eastern, and Kennard Dale diamond teams. Scoring in each of the first five innings, D.H.S. topped Lower Chanceford 9-4 on May 15. A leaky Kennard Dale defense committed three errors to hand Dallastown the running run in the top of the ninth as the Wildcats took a 5-4 victory. RED ROSE 71 Bonn by Kent Sprenklc In 1955 we entered Dallastown High School as freshmen. We selected as our adviser, Mr. Riedel. Our class officers were : Marlene Falis, president; Dane Loss, vice president; Betty Keeney, secretary; and Terry Knaper, treasurer. This first year made us realize that there would be both fun and work with student life at Dal- lastown High. A local hay ride and a trip to Hershey were the social functions that year. The trip to Hershey Park with the girls packing a picnic lunch climaxed our freshman year. We began our sophomore year by electing as officers: Kent Sprenkle, president; John Emen- heiser, secretary; and Terry Knaper, treasurer. Mr. Landis acted as our class adviser. We found a great deal more to do and en- joyed school activities such as Beacon, Student Council, Chorus, and Band, and almost best of all. we constructed a paper mache football, which won first prize in the Homecoming Parade. Our junior year was a busy one! We were kept in a tizzy with our play, Cracked Nuts” and our Plantation Ball prom. Our officers were: Larry Wynn, president; Kent Sprenkle, vice president; Ralph Stahl, secretary; and Terry Knaper, treasurer. Mr. Landis again advised us. Several pupils brought honors to the class. Karen Leader won an award for designing and dressing a doll for the Seventeen Magazine. Shelby Doug- las won a chemistry award. Carolyn Raab won first prize in the “Voice of Democracy” contest. We enjoyed our annual trip to Hershey. As seniors we were always in a whirl with studies, Yearbook, Beacon, and signing pictures. Kent Sprenkle presided over our class with Ralph Stahl, vice president; Iva Romesberg. secretary, and Shelby Douglas, treasurer. Nancy Gray served as editor-in-chief of the Beacon. Carolyn Raab acted as editor-in-chief of the Spectator and president of the student council. Mr. Winemiller was our class advisor. Although we are seniors, now. we can remin- isce about our years at Dallastown. We believe that our future will be richer for having been here. History by Shelby Douidus Kent Leon Sprenkle R. H. S., who have provided us with our story, and for whom this book is written, this staff wishes to express its sincere thanks. 87 With graduation we expand our present world of home, school, and parents to include a larger world of busi- ness and college. As we close this volume of the 1957 Spectator, may we face this larger world with the forti- tude and the knowledge we gained at Dallastown High School.
