CLASSES DEDICATION We, the senior class of 1966 feel indebted to our principal, Mr. Halstead, our guardian angel through both junior high and high school years. Now in our last year of high school, we look back to times when he has helped and encouraged us as individuals and as a class. So, in a parting attempt to once again express our years of gratitude, we wish to say “thank you” by dedicating our senior section to you, Mr. Halstead. 17 The 180 seniors certainly managed to keep things rolling at DHS during the 1965-1966 school year. All of our activities ended smoothly, even though we suffered the normal moments of confusion and had the usual, and some unusual, problems, especially at the Christmas Dance. The three hours it took to decorate the new cafetorium must surely be a record of some kind. It was our priviledge to have Lars Kulbrandstad, the senior exchange student from Norway, in our class. Even if he couldn’t play Senior Basketball very well (he’d never played it before), he sure could play a great game of Senior Soccer. Other high points during the year included a first place in the coffee lid contest, recognition as the most enthusiastic class at all but four pep assemblies, selling pastries every morning in the cafetorium, which added a tidy sum to our treasury and helped with the class gift, and finally GRADUATION. Although we’re sorry to see the year end, we’re also looking forward to the years ahead. The beautiful arches, the stately graduates, and the speakers each added to the serious yet happy atmosphere of this important night. The speakers presented a class which has earned many awards and enjoyed good times together throughout the past twelve eventful years. All those present were impressed with the graduates serious and thoughtful outlook on the future. SPRING MELODIES” The Hi-C Banquet, held at Whitworth on May 21, was an enjoyable evening to be long remembered by each guest. The delicious dinner. Country Style steak, came first, and the couples dined in the elegance of the decorated, candlelit tables. After dinner, the guests relaxed as they listened to the music of a boys’ quartet and girls’ sextet. Later, the guests heard a youth director from one of the larger churches of the Willamette, speak. The evening was pleasantly ended with a singspiration led by the guest singers. JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS Connie Woodman, Sandy Harder, Randy Crockett, Pat Lucanio, Sally Kinion, Claudia Buchanan. JUNIOR CLASS The biggest task of the Junior Class was putting on a prom. Most of our efforts were concentrated behind money making projects—car washes, baked food sales, and especially selling popcorn. Planning for the prom began in about October, although most of the work was put off until the last. We’re sure The Twelfth of Never” has set an example all Junior classes will want to fol low. We didn’t always win class competition but we certainly had our share of losses. After all, every class has to have one down year. We’re sure 1966-67 will bring brighter days for us. None of us, however, will be able to forget our Junior year. 42 Linda Adams Betty Alderson Janet Alford Mary Ann Ambrose Brad Anderson Greg Anderson Terry Andrew Kenneth Androes James Babcock Stephen Barker John Barnard Darrell Basom Caren Baughman Harold Bcnnefield Gary Bennett Marilyn Berger Laurie Bevens Novell Bicber Christine Bilyeu Bill Bollman Charlotte Boone Donna Brill Linda Brill Claudia Buchanan Celine Campbell Jim Carr John Casey Charlotte Chapman Allan Classen Buzz Clendenin Ronald Cobine Darla Cook Richard Dook Robert Cowman Betty Cox Richard Cox Robert Cox Bonnie Crace Dawna Crace Randy Crockett Harold Crook Marilyn Cunningham William Dankcnbring Kathi Darby Chyral Derksen John Doll Gary Dunn Jodell Edwards Mark Elliot Ken Emberee Virginia English Linda Evans Brian Fergusen Martha Fergusen Steve Fink Carl Fisher Pat Fisher Dennis Frazier Dianne Friesen Duane Friesen Edwin Fuchs Jacob Fuchs Sylvester Garrison Cheryl Giesbrecht Jodell Girrard Wally Gordon Richard Green Jerryr Halleman Evelyn Hamilton Sandi Harder Marlin Harms Grace Harvey Janisse Hayes Dean Hendricksen Lavada Hildebrand Peggy Hines Bob Hoffman Doug Hoffman Mettie Holbrook Kathy Holden Terry Hoxsie Doug Hunter Beverly Johnson Michael Kahler Kerry Keller Brenda Kenison Janette Kesson Sally Kinion Edith Kinsey Ken Kliewer Scott Knight Gerald Kroeker Betty Lefever Mary Lefever Dorothy Lindstrom Richard Linschied Cheryl Loewen Willard Loewen Pat Luciano Judy Lund Bob Lundy Greg McGlaughlin Ron McGlaughlin Stan McQueen Wayne March Dennis Martin Monty Martin Dave Martinelli Curt May Gerald Meyer John Miller Linda Miller Royce Miller Hallie Mills Ed Minahan David Mingo Bill Morison David Mosher Donna Myers James Neufeld Nina Newton K. When we entered the doors of the high school we knew it would be a really great year. We started the year off right by winning a trophy for having the best homecoming window display downtown. This was only a start! Our class also won a number of pep assemblies. Although we didn't win as many as the Seniors, we still put out a great effort. In all we did we went full force and did our best. This year was really great for all of us and from the enthusiasm shown this year I’m sure our Junior and Senior years will also be ones to remember. 49 Lora Adams Gerald Alderson Arlene Anderson Bob Anderson Kathleen Anderson Kent Anderson Joy Anglin Patricia Armstrong Janis Bailey Darrel Bartlett Shcree Basom Vickie Benson Linda Bliege Steve Block Sondra Boatwright Grace Born James Bos vert Dawn Bowman Gary Bowman Jack Brandt Tom Bran void Patrick Brockhaus Dale Brog Marilyn Brown Connie Buchanan Charlotte Buller Jancl Burelbach Penny Busselle Margaret Cadle Carol Campbell Doug Campbell Rosalie Carson Alan Chandler Judy Chaney David Christopher Beverly Classen Darlene Classen Clark Clendenin Daniel Cooper Terry Cooper Karen Crider Jock Dalton Jim Dankcnbring Stan Dankenbring Suzett Dcrksen Richard Dewing Dee Dibble Sandra Dick Raymond Dickey Constance Doll Robert Dunk in Karen Edwards Steve Edwards Bill Elliot Pamela Fern Paula Fisher Jerry Flaming Earlene Foster Dennis Friesen Glenda Friesen Gordon Friesen Jan Friesen Loren Friesen Eugene Fuchs D. These have included educational assemblies as one in which a state patrolman presented his views on safety, and at another AFS students discussed their native countries. Several members of the Armed Forces spoke on the opportunities provided by a military career; and a young man from Thailand gave the Girls’ League a humorous puppet portrayal of life in his country. There were many lighter assemblies as well, such as the morning Corvallis High School Choir sang, or when singers and reviews of plays were presented. That evening there was a serpentine through town which started at the Jr. High and ended back at the High School with a bonfire. The next evening our own Dragons beat the mighty St. Helens’ Lions in a fabulous game with the final score standing 32-7. Afterward the 1955 Alumni were honored at a party and dance centered around the theme ’’Treasured Times.” This will certainly remain a never to be forgotten event in the memories of everyone present. Peer as a man of the world. Mark Elliot dominated the production through twelve scenes as Peer, the charming but irresponsible and wild peasant, who leaves his homeland on evil ventures only to return late in life to discover that it was the love of Solveig (Marjean Quiring) which gave his life worth. Fifty-five students played the ninety-four characters. Duane Overholser did the excellent lighting. In the state quaterfinals the Dragons dropped a 3-0 decision to the Hillsboro team, who went on to win the State Championship. The Dragons placed Jim Chaney, James Chaney, Tom Quirin, Karl Schilling, and Gary Bennett on the All-League team. Our team won six of their last seven league games taking the crown and clinching the TYV League title with an 8-1 decision over Lake Oswego. Non-league games were jinxed, however, as the home nine lost nine of their fifteen away games and finished the season with a 15-15 record. The coaches, Mr. August and Mr. Ward, were quick to help the tracksters, and their enthusiasm is typified by Mr. August’s pole-vaulting lessons (at left). With only two Seniors on the squad, fine performances by the many •Sophomores (Seventeen) and Juniors (Eleven) kept the Dragons in contention the whole way. GOLF TEAM The Golf Team, under the careful tutoring of Mr. Cantonwine, followed the example of the other sports this year. The team didn’t do much together, but individuals put in great performances. In contrast to most other High School Sports, the members of the golf team will be chasing that little white ball around for the rest of their lives.
