LEON LOYD STUDENTS the ties that bind our whole life through In Dedication To Glenn Adams and Gary Collins the class of 65 dedicates this Senior section of the Dragon. Gary and Glenn, both natives of Dallas, were important members of their class and their influence on fellow students can never be measured. Glenn, with a deep interest in student government, was chosen by the Senior class to lead them in their last and most important year of high school. Besides participating in basketball, football and baseball, Glenn kept his GPA high and was also an important member of many student organizations. His ready smile, easy manner, and academic and athletic achievements will always stand out in our memories when we think of our years at Dallas Senior High School. Gary, with his shy quick ways was a valuable asset to every class in which he was enrolled. Science and math ranked among his favorite subjects and he was always ready to help his fellow students in these, and other fields. His friendly smile was a familiar sight at DHS and it is hard to remember a scowl ever darkening his face. Gary was a member of several student organizations and was always more than willing to do his share of the work, and when his tasks were accomplished he was always there to volunteer for more. Gary and Glenn had many personal friends and their effect on them, and the general student body will inspire students in the years to come. Gary Collins 1947-1964 Glenn Adams 1947-1964 SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS SITTING: Mike TalIon, Treasurer; Bev Braden, President; Bill Klievfer, Sgt. at Arms. STANDING: Don DePiero, Sgt. at Arms; Charisse Hayes, Act. Rep. ; Sue Woodridge, Election Rep. ; Cheryl Hilts, Secretary. Senior Class Officers Dorothy Classen, Brad Kliever, Carolyn Frieson, Jerry Watts, clown for the Pep Assembly. Dallas High seemed rather at a loss for our class in the afternoons. As far as that goes seniors weren't noticed very much at 6:50 in the morning either. We had a little trouble with our annual dance, the Christmas dance. What we ended up with was too much snow and too much water. Although we didn't have the dance, there were sure some original plans made. We were very fortunate to have Taeko Mat-suzaka with us this year. She was our foreign exchange student from Japan whom we enjoyed tremendously. Although some of our cadet teachers had a little trouble getting where they were going we are all sure of getting somewhere in the years to come. If our senior year is any sign of our future success it looks like we have an exciting future ahead of us. Class of 65 Seniors ov jet eo-cta other - e. bhu.ll not. Junior Class Officers With the help of our advisors, Mr. Staab, Mr. Sonnen, and Mr. Ward the members of the Junior Class proved themselves capable of leadership, citizenship, and school spirit. We showed our spirit at games by forming a white-shirt section and we had four yell leaders representing our class. We had great popcorn sales at every game and the proceeds went to pay for the Junior-Senior Prom. Our Junior year has been one of much fun as we attempted to set an example for future juniors. Our wish to the oncoming Juniors is that they may reach their goals and have fun while doing it. Junior Ann Starbuck emphasizes her point of view. The bonfire time was changed to Thursday and the dance itself took place in the Whitworth gymnasium instead of the high school balcony. Queen Jackie Thompson was crowned at the annual assembly on October 23. Her court consisted of Judy Rainwater, Sally Reimer, Cheri Hays, and Karyn Buchanan. The spirit di splayed that day was not only one of excitement, but also of traditional sentimentality. From Dallas is a tiny speck compared to the largest city in the world—Tokyo, Japan—which is the home of our fun-loving Taeko Matsuzaka, this year’s American Field Service student. Taeko’s first U.S. experience was a trip to Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks. The beginning days of school were quite a challenge for her. Getting accustomed to English and meeting strange, but friendly, faces, Taeko soon became one of us. New experiences included Homecoming and Halloween, both of which she enjoyed. Taeko also says she will always remember Oregon’s beautiful fall, and the Christmas flood. She was crowned Queen of the Christmas Dance, but was not able to reign since the dance was canceled because of the flood. Taeko took two trips to California with her first host family, the John Yeo’s, and with the Neal Povey’s. Disneyland was a happy stop on both trips. All in all, Taeko has had a very busy year, including speeches for organizations, learning new customs, and having lots of fun.
