semoR class histopy In the fall of nineteen hundred and fifty-three ninety-seven wondering freshmen entered the halls of Dallas High School, eager to learn. To guide them through the year they elected Diane Chase as President; John Bollman, Vice-President; Janet Young, Secretary; and Mary Stapleton, Treasurer. As advisors they chose Mr. Eugene Lawrence and Mr. Milo Smith. After the dreaded initiation day was over things began to run smoothly. Jackie Akers and Diane Chase were Hi-Y princesses for the Hi-Y dance. At the Sweetheart ball Terry Jones and Pat Lundy represented the class. For the May Dance Opal Penrose took top honor when chosen by popular vote as May Queen. Thus came to an end, a successful year of being freshmen. Everyone started his Sophomore year a little older and a little wiser, so they thought. At the first class meeting they elected new officers; John Bollman, President; Pat Lundy, Vice-President; Lonna Hershfelt, Secretary; Jane Woods, Treasurer; and Alvin Lute, Sergeant-at-Arms. Mr. Gordon Kunke and Miss Virginia Sorter helped them through the year as advisors. This year Janet Young and Dick Smith represented the class for the Hearts Dance. Glory was brought to the class when Lonna Hershfelt was chosen May Queen. The thrill of being upper classmen started the junior year off with a banglll To get them through this busy year they chose Roger Wiens as President; Gretchen Kitzmiller as Vice-President; Clydene Me Whirter as Secretary; John Harris as Treasurer and Dick Smith as Sergeant-at-Arms. Mr. Milo Smith and Mr. John Kienzle were Advisors. This year Ronald Manchas and John Bollman attended Boys State, and Rufauna Loften and Jane Woods attended Girls State as Representatives of Dallas High School. The class was excited as they prepared for the Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet which was a big highlight. Another memorable event was Junior-Senior Skip Day and going to the coast. The class also captured the talent show trophy by faculty vote. The election of President Ronald Manchas for Student Body President paved the way for renewed honors and activities for the Senior year. Senior yearll The big important year to the class of ‘‘56.’’ President of the class was Roger DeWitt, while Vice-President was Roy Welfley, Secretary was Dolores Klassen, Treasurer was John Harris and Sergeant-at-Arms was Frieda Chambers. The beautiful Homecoming Court was composed of Queen Diane Chase, with Princesses Dolores Klassen, Rufauna Loften, Lonna Hershfelt, and Gretchen Kitzmiller. For the Hearts dance sponsored by F.H.A. Janet Young and Ricky Jacobs had the honor of representing the class. Activities yet to come are the prom and banquet. Senior Skip day and the long waited for “Graduation Day,” which will face you as you get this annuaL Some are filled with the feelings of joy and some with the feelings of regret but we all leave a part of our youth, which we will never be able to recapture as we move on to greater things made possible by our high school years. 29
