We were all prepared for the worst, but we found that high school wasn’t half as bad as we had anticipated, e had hardly become accustomed and organized when the initiation began to loom on the horizon. After that we decided that strong leaders were necessary to provide us with some protection. Those that seemed well qualified were: President Bruce Rummer, V-President Don Blanchard, Secretary Dorothy Neufeld, Treasurer Eugene Kinion, Sgt. At Arms Mel Ediger. Mrs.Dexter was our Advisor. Our freshman class with an enrollment of 109 was the largest Freshman class since ’37. Ckir social contribution of the year was a “Rec Hall” party for the whole school after the Dallas vs. Indep. basketball game. It was a huge success. We fared well that first year, and went back for more in 1946. This time we found that we were becoming more and more among the upper ranks, and could rake our revenge for the previous year on that new class of Frosh. We really gave them a pretty rough time. Those elected to lead us in our Sophomore year were: President Eugene Kinion, V-President Sam Olson, Secretary Loren Lange, Treasurer Doloris Gilmore, Sgt. At Arms Carroll Aebi. And our Advisor Mr. Gilson. Many of the boys were active in sports, and a number of girls olso earned letters in athletics. We also sponsored the annual “May Dance”. When the brief breathing spell of summer vacation was over, we returned with renewed vigor to our task. We returned with mingled regret and delight, for as upperclassmen we could ” lord” it over the underclassmen, and yet, it made us think that in two years we would be finished. With Byron Hodgson, Kenny Gardner, Dorothy Neufeld, Pat Parke, and Don McCulley as officers, and Mr.Roy Dancer as Advisor, we carried out our most successful year. High-Lighting this year was the annual Sadie-Hawkins Day celebration which has always been sponsored by the class of ’49. Everyone who participated had a swell time. Later in the year we ordered our class rings. Then came the Big Carnival Dance with Glenn Williams and his orchestra which was a large success. Many other schools were invited to attend. By this time the Juniors were running low on their funds but they had enough to give the Seniors a wonderful time at the coast on Junior-Senior Play Day. The last dance sponsored by the Juniors was the only strictly formal dance of the year. It was the Junior-Senior Prom. The theme that the Juniors carried out was “Stardust”. It was the most beautifully decorated and attended dance of the year. In September 1948, we rounded the curve and began the stretch with Mel Ediger, Pres., V-Pres. Del-mond Tilgner, Sec. Lorene Mehl, Treas. Dick Trent, and Sgt. At Arms Herb Buller, as our officers and Mr. Zemanek as our Advisor. The seniors were kept pretty busy with the taking of the Senior Pictures and the exchanging of them. Ordering of cards and announcements came next on the list. Many of the activities of the Senior year have not as yet been made but we are all looking forward to Senior Dress-Up Day, Senior Skip Day, Junior-Senior Play Day, Junior-Senior Prom., and of course. Graduation Day. Some are filled with joy and some regret. The annual Sadie-Hawkins Day was again sponsored by the seniors. We all tried to make this, our last year in high school, the best of them all, and tried to add many more memories to our already large store. As freshman, as sophomores, as juniors, and seniors, we were well represented in all the school organizations and activities.
