DALLAS HIGH SCHOOL DALLAS, GEORGIA Introduction Table fyf Faculfy 2 I A dmz'nz'stmtz'0n Conlents Advertzsements A ctz'vz'tz'es Classes K 'X IF... you can dream--and not make dreams your master . . . Dreams, thoughts, triumphs, and disaster, . . . these are all parts of the day to day curriculum at Dallas High School. Each is an important cornerstone on which a delicate complex called life is to be based. The real meanings of these conditions, however, come from deriving worthwhile goals from each dream, thought, triumph, or disaster, and putting forthean honest effort to attain these goals. During our short high school career these four basic corner stones of life are firmly entrenched in our hearts and souls to make a firm foundation for our lives. We proudly introduce the theme for our 1967 Dahiscan . . . Dreams, thoughts, triumphs and dis- asters, all parts of a student's life at school. . 4 . IF... you can think and not make thoughts your aim . . . 0 in 5,1 ge THEN... yours is the earth and everything that's in it, and what is more, you'11be a man my son. you can meet with triumph and disaster and treat those two impostors just the same . . . X S f a l in T There are hermit souls that live withdrawn In the peace -of their self content, There are souls like stars that dwell apart In a fellowless firmamentg There are pioneer souls that blaze their paths Where highways never ran, . . . But let me live by the side of the road, And be a friend to man. .11 K H-me X A friend to man. To the students of Dallas High School, Mr. Jim Nix is exactly that. Every student who has been in his biology or anatomy classes has felt his quiet friendliness, his warm humor, and his helpful guidance. Never falling to defeat, Mr. Nix's guidance and cooperation has grown to be an in- tegral part of the school day at Dallas High. For several years Mr. Nix has coached the Powder Puff Football Team and the Eighth Grade Girls' Basket- ball Team and has made both of them teams to be feared. Because he has shown his dedication and accepted his responsibilities at D.H.S., we proudly dedicate the 1967 Dahiscan to MR. JIM NDi . . . The 1967 ahiscan Staff Editor-invChief . . . It was in the spring Q' 1898 that three graduates came forward to receive the first diplomas ever to be awarded jrom Dallas High School. Spring fy' '67 will see some one hundred twengffve Seniors march on the plamzrm pr their diplomas. People Wen place events as The 2' ear qfso-and-so. This year will certainbf be remembered mf the faculgf as the T ear J Evaluation. We have seen the teachers scur- ring here and there with stacks zyfprzwssional-looking books and reems ff reports. We have seen them dragging ,hom faculgf meetings at 5:30 in the ajernoon. There is no doubt that our faculgf can meet the Visiting Committee armed with the- cour- age, knowledge, and evidence Q' work well done that will put Dallas High School on the accreditation list of the Southern Association fy' Colleges and Secondapf Schools jbr the next ten years. It will be remembered .as The T ear of Integration when seventeen Negro students enrolled in Dallas High and quzetbv took their places among the other students. It will be remembered as The T ear of the Football Team. This year saw twengf- five remarkable Tigers move our rating up a jew pegs with six victories and only hur losses. Some other outstanding facts are that Term' Ragsdale made All-State, Russ Parker was the leading rusher, and Bilbf Andersen was leading scorer in Region 3A. And we shall certainbf remember The T ear ofthe Band and Drill Team. Their stirring, coloyful pewrmances will linger in our minds much longer than thoughts of Hamlet or square root or Gregg Shorthand. g Lastbz, it is The 1' ear cy' the Spirit. We saw j?Jr the first time a trubf consolidated Dallas High Spirit. Pep ralbf enthusiasm, game attendance, victogf dances-all phases Mlm' at Dallas High saw that Tiger spirit on the prowl-and that has made all the dwfrence. - 0 Mrs. johns and Her Ojjgce Stajjf ff! The future that once seemed so distant has nearly arrived. We have had a long and difficult journey in reaching this, the most coveted position of our lives, but as the years became months we have a certain uneasy feeling. This feeling prompts us into thoughts that once seemed to be merely dreams. But now, we are awaken ing to find that these dreams have become realities. We have a feeling of inner joy for our accomplishment in the past, but we have a stronger urging to accom- plish even more in our senior year. This is the star for which the junior class reaches, the star of personal yearning, forming only a small but proud part of the long line of life and those that have gone before. . . . Pictured above is the Architect's conception of the proposed new high school plant for Paulding County. The Paulding County Board of Edu- cation is proposing this school plant to be located on Highway 61, 2 miles south of Dallas on a tract of land re- cently sold as a part of the T. J. Gray Estate. The plant will become known as the Paulding County High School. The Board is asking the voters of Paulding County to approve a s55o,ooo bond issue to be matched with a S503,000 grant from the Geor- gia State School Building Authority. If this bond issue is approved the Paulding County Board of Education can eliminate the present over- crowded conditions existing at the Dallas Elementary School, Hiram Elementary and High School and Dallas High School. These three school buildings are presently hous- ing 2600 of the 3800 students. This will in no way change the present school structure in Paulding County, but will only serve to eliminate over- crowded conditions. The present school buildings will continue in operation, New Hope, New Georgia, Hiram, Union and Yorkville will continue to house grades 1 through En, Dallas Elemen- tary Grades 1 through 5, the present Dallas High building grades 6 through 8, Matthews Consolidated School grades 1 through 12, the proposed new building grades 9 through 12. With this proposal the estimated en- rollment of each school will be as follows: New Hope 225, New Georgia 225, Hiram 650, Union 250, York- ville 150, Dallas Elementary 575, the Dallas High Building -175, Mat- thews Consolidated 360 and the new building 950.
