As the 51 seniors received their diplomas and walked out of the auditorium , the event marked the end of an era at Dallas Christian. Gone is a class that for 4 years put its mark on the school. Gone , too, will be the building which housed that class for so long , and gone will be many of the teachers who both taught those students and learned from them . The future , however, will turn for Dallas Christian High School WHETHER GOOD OR BAD , one thing is for certain: DC will never be the same. And the Chargers Followed Against St. Marks in the first game of the year, DC undoubtedly played the finest game, tying the Lions 0-0 . Although a 4-touchdown underdog, the Chargers held firm against the brutal Lions' attack throughout the game. The climactic moment came deep in the fourth quarter when St. Marks, armed with momentum, stood knocking on the door with a first down on the Charger 2 yard line. The Charger Basketball Team of 1973-74 enjoyed the finest year in the school's history posting a 25-5 record and winning their third straight Texas Independent Schools Conference Championship. The team set many records, including an incredible win streak of 38 straight conference games. It was a veteran team which started four seniors and possessed a perfect combination of ability and experience . Defense, however, was the key to the Chargers' success. It was preached fervently by Coach Price and played to perfection by the players. Havens passes off. The Chargers continued their outstanding play in league action, winning their first eight games by an average margin of 22 points. In the ninth game at Cictercian, the Chargers seemed ripe for an upset. Plagued most of the night by bad officiating and their own poor play, DC found themselves behind by 17 points with only five minutes to play. Everyone had given up but the players, who, in a furious comeback, outscored the Hawks 21 to tie the game and send it into overtime. Two overtimes later, the Chargers won the contest by a score of 83- 77 . To accomplish the first goal, many staff members worked extremely hard selling ads, school pictures, decals and carnival booklets, and working the Mini- Market at the PTA Auction. The same hard work and dedication paid off again to accomplish the second goal. Special thanks must be given to all the staff members who worked so hard and especially to Miss Moore for holding everything together and working so hard for us. Staffer Alan Mays. Led by a dynamic president, Randall Thompson, the PTA raised over 818, 000 during the 2-year period. Upon taking office in May, 1972, the officers were faced with a deficit of over S5 ,500 . Refusing to let this situation dampen enthusiasm, Mr. Thompson led the group in making unprecedented and far- reaching plans. The climax of the 2 years' work came on March 9 , 1974, when a huge auction was held in the DC gym. Through the cooperation and work of countless individuals, the auction raised about 2814, 000 for CSI. The active concern of the PTA for student activities was vividly demonstrated when the yearbook staff was allowed to operate the Mini- Market, and Sl, 100 of its proceeds was given to the staff to make the final payment of what was originally an almost 32,000 debt, incurred 3 years ago . Several other student organizations benefited from the PTA Auction. Randall Thompson, PTA President Randall Thompson and Gene Stephens, treas. , write THE check for the yearbook staff. They come to us from 48 states and 20 foreign countries. Because Harding is PEOPLE-centered, we feel a deep responsibility to our students while they make Harding their home away from home. At Harding students are not merely computer numbers, but individuals, with in- dividual goals and needs. An education at Harding includes a close rapport between students and faculty. This communication between educator and student not only promotes scholastic achievement, but alsQ'is a key factor in Harding's Christ-centered education. 4' If PEOPLE-Centered Yes, we at Harding are interested in PEO- PLE! We believe an education should be a learning, growing, maturing and character- building step toward the future. Harding is PEOPLE-centered and dedicated Christians are our most important product.
