1 Introduction Bei = : a os ee D) te, =) D) ol) © SS OD aa = aha Dallas Baptist College. . . the dream . . . began in the little town of Decatur, Texas. Under the name of Northwest Texas Baptist College, DBC opened its first semester in 1893. Because of financial difficulty, the college was renamed Decatur Baptist College in 1897. Today in Decatur, only a ghost of the mighty “Home of the Indians” can be seen on the side of a factory. The Administration Building, which once watched the busy activities of college life, now serves as the Wise County Museum. It was decided in 1963 to relocate the college to a more central location. The world’s oldest junior college was moved, lock, stock, and barrel, to Dallas, Texas, and became our present day Dallas Baptist College. Meeting Jessie changed his life around, and not too many years later, he and Jessie had four lovely girls. In 1975, Dr. Thorn became a part of D.B.C. Because of his hard efforts and love for the school. Dr. Thorn, with God's guidance has given Dallas Baptist College a new outlook and hope for the future. Not only for what he has done for Dallas Bap- tist College, but for the great person he 1s in Christ. The 1978 SUM- MIT is DEDICATED TO DR. W. E. THORN. Five committees were established which enabled more social activities, programs, and state level corre- spondence. Due to increased membership, for the first year in its history, TNSA was allowed two delegates to the state convention held March 8—12. These delegates were Janet Barnes and Robert Waybright. Poster Sales, numerous guest speakers, blood drive, a thank you breakfast for faculty, a big sister little sister week and an End of the Year Fling for Seniors are some of the many activities sponsored by TNSA. Organization 105 a Yn C a A a | Student Foundation The DBC Student Foundation brings together students and administrators and promotes student involvement for students and their college. This group focuses its energies on funding scholarships, student recruitment, and public relations — interaction with all constituent groups associated with DBC. Its purpose is to involve students in meaningful projects resulting in a greater coi- lege and a more dedicated alumni. This year the Student Foundation contacted prospective students through Collegeday Night programs and area churches and represented DBC at the Baptist General Convention of Texas, as well as other luncheons and meetings where student representation was needed. Through the fund-raising efforts of the group, various juniors and seniors now attending DBC received financial aid in the form of Student Foundation schol- arships to assist them in finishing their education. The organization topped off the year by sponsoring Spring Spectacular — a week of activities including a golf tournament, tennis tournament, faculty-staff football game, a girls’ tricycle race, regatta, and a concert. 106 Organization Top Row, Left to Right — Danette Gray, Becky Cheyne, Debi Rath- bun, Craig McBride, Steve Farish.
