Wean -iv Thirty-five bright faces marched into Mrs. Betty Millikan's first grade room on the first day of school in 1945. Many of the kids were missing their front teeth. Mrs. Millikan taught us to read, write, and count. It was something new, but we enjoyed learn- ing. Six of these pupils have remained with our class. They include Saloma Callahan, Carol Reed, Patty Tyner, Linda Wean, Gary McWilliams, and Larry Stewart. Two that entered during the year and still with us are john Fletcher and David Shoemaker. Dick Hurley started out with us but left at the end of the year. This year we crossed the hall and entered Mrs. Laird's room. We had our first stage appearance this year when we presented little Nursery Rhyme Skitsf' These little plays paid off-Remember the junior Class Play. Something sad happened at the middle of the yearg Mrs. Laird left and her place was filled by Mrs. VanTassel. XVe all kissed her goodbye. This year we added Billy Currey to our class roll. Mrs. Newberry had the honor of teaching our class the first year she returned to Daleville. A few that we gained this year were Delray Green and Bobby Fox. Dick Hurly missed us so, that he returned and is still with us. Mrs. Newberry taught us our Multi- plication tables. Boy! We thought we were smart. Love also began to sprout, just ask Saloma and Dick. Our fourth year, we traveled over to Mrs. Schlegel's SEN IORS' CLASS HISTORY room. Carol and Gary felt the love bug bite this year. Rose Marie Crosley decided that she didn't get along with her class so she dropped back to join us. Ted Folkereth also joined us. Wfe really were big now for we got to climb the ina cline to enter Mrs. Hizer's room. David Bratten and Richard Purvis were added to our rank. Billy Wfester- man dropped in from his class. Eleanor Ackenback because of illness had to drop out. This year we had a basketball team and three yell leaders, Saloma, Car- ol, and Hildreth. Dick was Mrs. Hizers little errand boy. Gary gave Carol a ring and Ted kept giving Linda a small gift each week. Boys, do you remember how Hildreth could always get the best of you? In the sixth grade, we had a new experienceg Mr. Nelson, was our first man teacher. Does everyone remember how we all enjoyed Mr. Nelson's stories that he read? Patty enjoyed Billy walking her home every night after school. The girls would all get to- gether and read Saloma's notes from Dick. XVe lost Ted along with a few others. Larry Quilling came along and joined our honorable class. Bigger than ever, we entered junior High School. just think, we got to pass from class to class and didnt have to look at the same teacher all day. The only sad thing was, no more recesses. Irene Moore joined us and still remains. W 7ifl WFVWF j7'TVW n3l Girls, guess who joined our class this year, Norman Haines. Too bad Patty had to win. Wherever you were, you could always hear joEllen Hatfield laugh- ing. Chuck Miller entered this year. Deanna Mudd who joined the year before, left and traveled to York- town. Danny Turner, who would leave and then return again, finally decided to stay in Arizona. Also, don't forget Mr. Allen King and our trip when he took us to Chicago, his nicknames for some, and Dick, do you remember getting kicked out of the museum. Well, we finally reached high school. Chesterfield also moved in. The ones who remain are David Ashby, Richard Conklin, Amogia Coulter, Ronnie Modlin, Chuck Retter, Phyllis Scott, and Charlie Yarberry. Gene Walker also moved from a town near Noblesville. joEllen and Ruby left. Do you remember wearing long underwear and hip boots? Bill Thomas had Sherry, Patty, Paula, and Saloma chasing after him. We received our class jackets and sweaters. Amogia and Chuck had an affair. Could you imagine a freshman, Rose Marie, having a gift brought back to her from the senior trip-Bill? As Sophomores, two of the few students we lost were Sherry Oliver and Bob Fox. We received our class rings, started our savings fund, and made a few dollars toward our trip. Phyllis had a hayride which is remembered by everyone there. Linda was hit by a truck and during her illness, received nice gifts from the class. ln our junior year, we put on the play, The Fighting Fishers, which was one means of making money this year. Five girls were very naughty and ate a coconut pie at a class supper. After the Prom, most of the girls had a bawling instead of a slumber party at Wean's-So many tears. Larry Stewart found Linda Howard. Richard Purvis dropped behind this year. Here we are, Seniors. Did you think we would ever make it, we never? Larry Quilling re-entered after spending the winter in Florida. Carolyn Crosley also joined us. Amogia Coulter married Bill Clark whom she met last year, Gene is engaged to a last year senior, and Carol is engaged to a man in the Navy. We have the honor of being the first ones to graduate in the new school. We are happy to be able to graduate from Dear Old Daleville and appreciate the hard work done by Mr. Rust, our class sponsor. Eaton, Gaston, and Selma were the only teams able to overpower the Broncos. The teams record includes wins over Yorktown 7 to 6, Cowan 9 to 6, Center 9 to 2, Harrison 5 to 1, and Desoto 9 to 1. Rust's boys had difficulty in holding onto the ball and consequent- ly committed several errors. This could have been the reason l for three losses instead of a perfect record. Those boys playing school baseball for the last time were Hurley, McWilliams, Westerman, Fletcher, and Walker, a group that will , be hard to replace next summer. V It ll ii i M it 3 'Q' D xi .LT .
