Play It 13 Memor1al Day 1961, at the 500 M116 former Nancy Hale lS at the Speedway w1th Th1s famous deteot1ve 18 on the lookout for the very well known head 1nter1or decorator dec1ded to come to see the race Wlth h1m and Speedway 1n Ind1anapol1s The her pr1vate d6t6Ct1V6 husband p1ckpockets so Nancy who 18 at Marshall F1eld, 1n Ch1oago, the1r ten 11t1l6 pr1vate eyes Well what do you know' here lt 13 race t1me and whom do we see dr1v1ng a very sleek race car but last year 1n the race, because he has developed Bob 13 engaged 1n farm1ng Genle Barkdull Gen1e came 1n second to Bob Moore but th1S year Gen1e says that he th1nks he can w1n a new super charged gasol1ne to use 1n th1s race when he 1SH't rac1ng D1rectly across the 81816 we see Barbara Shoemaker the World's champ1on heavy he1ght wrestler Barbara 18 now seven feet tall and we1ghs about three hundred danc1ng months because pounds Wlth her at the race 18 J1m Glndhart who 18 now the head teacher at Arthur hurray's J1m says that 1n the next two or three he th1nks Mr Murray 1S plannlng to turn the school over to h1m he 18 a better teacher than Mr Murray After the race we drove down through Ind1anapol1s, and on the way we saw L1lyan and Harold Hartzell Lilyan 18 now Home Econom1cs 1nSfFuCtOF at Mdwllllams who 15 now marr1ed and has two ch1ldren of her own 13 the1r baby s1tter when L1lyan 1S t68Ch1Dg As we drove a l1ttle farther,we saw a s1gn wh1ch read, Donna and Wanda's Nlght Club H Yes lt was the same old twosome aga1n nanda and Meredith are marr1ed and have three sets of tw1ns Qall l1ttle sa1lor boys,of course As we went 1DS1d9 we discovered that the bubble dancers were also old classmates Jeanne Aldr1ch and Joyce Pfenn1ng The band now at the club 18 J1m Burcaw's w1th Jack Reeves as vocal1st The boys Just got back from an engagement at the Waldorf ASt0P1B where they were enthus1ast1cally rece1ved As we left the off1cial bouncer of the club was stand1ng at the door and we surely were SUTpP1S6d when we recogn1zed h1m to be Bob Sm1th After leav1ng the club, we wandered on through Ind1anapol1s and, walk1ng down the street we thought we recogn1zsd the lady who was COm1ng along all loaded down w1th bundles Yes, lt was the former lla Antr1m who 18 now Mrs Rees She said she left Rex at home W0rk1ng and tak1ng care of the fam1ly lhey have twelve ch11dren you know They d6C1d6d to see 1f lt 1S really true that they are cheaper by the dozen As we were leav1ng Ind1anapol1s we passed by the Art Museum Mar11ee Gentry 18 1n charge of lt She Sald she was so busy running the Museum that she never had tlme to get marr1ed Donna Ml1l6P, now marr1ed to Joe G1ndhart, has a home on the outskirts of ChSStGPf16ld She and Joe have three sets of tr1p1ets I 0 QC . . , -H. . . . . . . . . . , . , I . , . . . . . . . . . 1 u S , i . As we reach Daleville we see Bill Thornbro driving a truck which says 'City of Dalev1lle ' B111 has one of the most important Jobs of the city that of dog catcher He said that he was very lucky to get that Job but as he was a friend of Earl Everett who 1S mayor, the Job was his for the ask n Two of the important dignitaries from the 1951 class who are now on va cation are Charlene Neff and Earl LeMond Charlene is pres1dnet of Harvard and Earl is the world's foremost atomic scientist Last but not least we see Joan Bobbitt As we stop and talk we learn that she hasn't taught school for ten years She said that after sponsoring the class of 'Sl' for three years she d1dn't feel like her nerves could stand uch more we also learned that she had published a book called 'Shorthand in Ten Easy Lessons sS2l'll0l' Gfariif A5 t0l'g 'Twas the Hlght of the class party for the 1951 seniors The hours s11pped by The hilarity mounted and was climaxed when someone pulled out the first grade picture of twelve years a o There were Miss Lontgomery's darlings of 1939 Look at them Sue had long curls Barbara d1dn't have any front teeth Genie was the tough little mutt who stole D8V1Q'S and Earl Everett's girl Earl Lekond was so busy studying that he cou1dn't be bothered Nancy and Donna Barkdull were the champion basketball players of the class Marilee was always the f1rst one to arrive at school Rex was bashful CHe hadn't met Ila yet J Jack Reeves' vocal cords were already showing promise Sam's tendencies also had begun we often mlSS6d him at school out picking corn with Dad Charlene Joined us, and of course, we liked her smiles and curls Well time passes on we were soon in second grade We can never forget our nice little rugs on which we took naps Miss Drum let us use them often to keep us sweet and angelic Do you remember Janet Rees? Oh yes, she is one of the Einsteins of Yorktown Don't ever say we weren't considerate of our erst while rivals. The second year went fast and who should Mrs Muterspaugh see coming in her door but us On that first day in the third grade, the little girls all got a thrill, for it was then that they met the red headed charmer, Dick Groce The boys too, gained they thought L1lyan and Babette Overholser Joined our ranks Promotion came in due season There we got a former teacher but with a new name Miss Montgomery, now Mrs Weinie Students come and go Judy Barkdull depleted our ranks She decided to be an Owlet at Muncie Burris Why do our brain children have to leave? , Q 0 . - .
