The department is presided over by three teachers, Mrs. Josephine P. Stone who teaches Freshman, Senior English and Speech, Miss Irene McDaniel teaches both in the Freshman and in the Sophomore years. Mrs. Esther Hoops teaches a large class of Juniors in connection with her other duties.

Today home makin courses have a definite and important place in ali levels of education from primary gradesthrough col- le e. The purpose of homemaking in the schools is toghelp the individual live a more usefuland satisfy- ing personal, family and community life. Years ago the curriculum of homemaking education meant only cooking and sewing. Not it includes courses in the following areas of education: l. Selection, preparing and serving of food. 2. Selection, care, renovation and con- struction of clothing. 3. Guidance and care of children. 4. Selection and care of the home and its furnishings. 5. Home care of sick, including first aid. 6. Maintenance of human and family relationships. These courses enables the individuals to broaden their purposes and provide for greater self development. Thus home economics is an active and continous pro- cess throughout school and life.
