I . , 1 A D Senlor Class Hlstory Four years ago a momentous event took place D F S The class gf 1991 came ilto being In 1947 s1xty eight boys and girls enrolled ss green freshmen After gett1ng to know their way around and getting acquainted with each other and their sponsors Mrs Ashoy, Mr JSDKIDB, and Mr Clssna they elected their class officers These were Glenn H1le rresident, Gloria Brown, Vice President, Margorie Schenk Secretary and Treasurer, Carrie Mae Webb, Reporter, Frank Crews, Bill Schum Erna Schulthise, Student Council members They enjoyed two class parties during the year The first was at Ferdinand State Forest, the second on the school grounds In April they bade their classmates good bye for the summer vacation When aga1n they returned in 1948 they found forty seven back for the Sophomore year Mr Jenkins, Mr Livengood, and Miss Gsbbert were the sponsors for the year For their class officers they elected Glenn Hile, President, Carrie Mae Webb, Vice President, Gloria Brown, Secretary, Frank Crews, Treasurer, Norma Reinhart and Carrie Mae Webb, Reporters, Carrie Mae Webb, Frank Crews, and Glenn Hile, Student Council members Since they wanted to order their class sweaters and jackets, they chose their class colors, gray and blue Later in the year, they received them The Sophomore girls, with Miss Weedman's help, gave the seniors of '49 and the Faculty a Christmas tea Huntingburg Park and Lincoln Park were the scenes of their two class parties that year For forty five Jolly juniors the summer ended all too soon Coming back to school in 1949 they quickly organized their class so as to take the junior sales at the coming ballgame With their sponsors Mr Bailey, Miss Weedman, and Mr Carrie Mae Webb, Secretary, Mary Lee Cooper, Treasurer, Frank Crewe, Alslsteud Treasurer, Norma Reinhart and Lela Ruth Minor, Reporters, Frank Crews, lary Lee Cooper, and Carrie Mae Webb, Student Council members The Juniors were in charge of all the concessions at the ball game. order to sell popcorn they purchased a popcorn machine This they left as a gift to the school For their class party a special occasion was planned They spent the afternoon exploring Meeker Park at Evansville, then in the evening taking in a movie They soon started work on their class play, 'Bashful Bertie ' With the able help of their director, Miss McDaniel, they gave two good appearances A yellow rose was chosen as their class flower Their motto, 'Not the end but the beg1nn1ng,' was also chosen All the juniors worked diligently on getting the Junior Senior Banquet planned The banquet was given at Santa Claus Land They selected their Comet Staff and reporters as they wanted to learn to take over the work when they were seniors Aided by the seniors of '50 they put out two issues After a very busy year they went eagerly into their summer vacation In 1950 thirty five seniors came back for the final year in their good old D H S , however, shortly after school started one of their members withdrew Their sponsors were Mr Glezen, Mr Woolsey, and Mrs Stone The class officers were elected as follows Frank Crews, President, Gloria Brown, Vice President, Mary Lee Cooper, Secretary, Gdenn Hile, Treasurer, Joseph Seckinger and Elsie Hildenbrand, Reporters, Frank Crews, Carrie Mae Webb, Joseph Seckinger, and Mary Lee Cooper, Student Council members Soon they appointed the Annual Staff which started immediately to collect arrange, and type the materials When the other classes had their class parties, the seniors went to Chase at Huntingburg to have senior pictures made These seniors pictures were received several weeks later They ordered their name cards and selected their invitations, also, they selected Royal Blue Molona caps and gowns to be worn at graduation The Daughters of American Revolutions award went to Carrie Mae Webb They chose Rev Montgomery from Vincennes for their commencement speaker Some of the Seniors journeyed to Evansville to see the play, 'Hamlet ' On May 18th the seniors bade their alma mater ado and went forward to take their places in life Q I - at .,. .
