Subic was not exactly the garden spot of the world. The climate was horrible, either too wet or too hot or both. The town of Olongcpo left much to be desired. But it was not the Tonkin Gulf and it ment a res- pite from the one-in-three watches and a chance to get off the ship. wi' The Navy Recreation Facility at Grande Island was the scene of two fine ship's parties.
