Keep- ing the equipment in an operating status is a full time job, and thenthere were the ever present condition III watches in Sonar One of the sh1p's important missions during the cruise was task force ASW training coordination. This assignment gave the Sonarmen several times more practice with submarines than had been available since DALE was commissioned. During our periods as training coordinator we also took part in sonar environmental studies over several sections of the South China Sea which will contribute valuable information in case of an extension of ASW operations into these areas
