Bowes, 31, was named by the Regents of Education as the new president of General Beadle State College. The appoint- ment was made on July 21, 1967. In announcing the decision, Charles Burke, Pierre, president of the regents, said: The regents appreciate the job Dr. Bowes has done as acting president and the assistance he has given the board l-le faced a very trying four months as acting head of General Beadle and has performed admirably The search and screen commit tee of faculty and alumni gave Dr Bowes a priority listing in the field of several candidates and the regents are happy to offer him the post We are confident he will do a good job The South Dakota Board of Re- gents is comprised' of nine mem- bers, appointed by the governor. The board's chief responsibility is governing South Dakota's seven state-supported colleges and uni- versities.
