VAN ZANTEN We, the 1971 Annual Staff, have chosen to dedicate this annual to you, Mr VanZanten, because you have set a fine Christian example for us to follow and because of your sincere and faithful devotion to our class and this Christian school, 4 He was patient and understanding, had his good moods and bad, but we loved him. He strived to make us understand his point of view. He had time to goof off with his favorite senior class. He stayed after hours and came on weekends to work. He took time out from his schoolwork for his fiance. 5 CHAPEL On every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday the entire student body and faculty met together in the gym to begin the with God. On Tuesday the chapel was led by either a faculty member or a student. Mr. DeYoung led a hymn sing on Thursday morning, and we usually had a special speaker on Friday. The days that we didn't get together in the gym, individual class had chapel in their home room. On Mondays the students could also get together and have prayer. Being able to get together for chapel and prayer was a privilege for everyone. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the ministers from the various churches, students, and other guest speakers who took time to talk to us. Again, as in other years, we exchanged chapel with Southwestern. 6 LADIES AUXILIARY The Ladies Auxiliary has done many things for our school in this past year. They have given us two bulletin boards, choir collars, a mimeograph machine, money, and numerous other things. They also sponsored a get aquainted night for the teachers the the Parent- Senior Banquet. To raise money they put on the Hostess Supper, a Salad Luncheon, and the Dutch Smorgasbord. During the summer they all helped in the general school cleaning. We want to take this opportunity to thank each member for her work and interest. 7 PRINCIPAUS MESSAGE CDakota Christian High School the beginning of wisdom." The club was kept busy by various activities. They made bulletin boards for the different rooms in school. They also went out by pairs to visit the schools in the area. This taught them some different methods of teaching. HBH TEAM CHEERLEADERS 1 emi' Char Visscher Cheryl Van Zee--Viv Van Essen Nova DeLange TROPHIES The Cadets had a very good season. Their record was 19-4. To show for all their hard work are the three beauti- ful new trophies. The one on the left is the Region VII trophy for second place. The center trophy is the Confer- ence trophy which we have won for three years consecu- tively. The trophy on the right is the trophy we obtained by becoming District 27 Champions. After defeating the White Lake Indians the Cadets went on to meet the Stickney Raiders in the finals. With both teams using a zone defense, the Raiders had a one point edge at halftime 26-25. Again in the third quarter the Raiders maintained the lead 41-32. The fourth quar- ter, however, was the quarter of the Cadets. With a full- court press the Cadets forced Stickney into several turn- overs and whittled away at the 9-point deficit. With about 2 seconds on the clock Terry V. Z. hit a lay up to knot the score at S8 all. The first overtime again found us tied with the Raiders, 62 all. The Cadets completed the upset in the second overtime period with five free tosses with the final score being 67-66. On March 4, the Cadets met Tyndall in the first game of Region VII. The Cadets won 65-57. In the finals of Region VH the Cadets met the Andes Central Eagles. Andes won the game 71-65. The Cadets played a good floor game, but just couldn't quite get enough baskets to win.
