Year of fhe Roundballersu This was the year of the Tiger roundballers. Their road led to the state playoffs race where they received the checkered flag. Starting at Bi-District, Daingerfield handily defeated Pine Tree 44-40 at the Tyler Junior College Wagstaff Gym. With momentum rolling, the Tigers dominated Ennis by the score of 67-58 at the Greenville High School gym during the Regional contest. State toumament time arrived and all doubt was dismissed when Big Blue took the floor. Their poise, determination, and disci- pline led to a 66-55 decision over Huntsville and advanced the cagers to the finals. The finals presented a tough Borger team but the Tigers demonstrated their version of tough and the crown was theirs by the margin of 72-68. The victory was the top of the ladder but each ning was strength- ened by dedicated support and unbelievable pride. This was the first state basketball championship for Daingerfield. I have considered it a privilege to be associated with our school system for some twenty-five years in a lead- ership capacity. It is a real satisfaction for me to see the success our students have achieved in the professions, business, vocations, and all areas of life. I know the present student body will continue the tradition. Have you noticed how proudly our ex-students let the world know that they are graduates of Daingerfield High School? This is, for one reason, because our present student body continues to carry on the good work, and make them proud . Our success as a school system has been due to the cooperation of parents, students, school boards, and facul- ties, who have desired a good educational program, and have been willing to work and provide the necessary means. It has been my good fortune to work among such fine people as we have in the Daingerfield - Lone Star ISD, dedicated faculties, and great student bodies, such as you. As I enter the twilight of my career, thanks to you, young people, for not letting me grow old, and for your influence on me in maintaining my faith in the younger generation.
