C.E. LANDIS COMMANDER USN COMMANDING OFFICER 8 APR 61 — 19 APR 63 - . TO THE OFFICERS AND MEN OF DAHLGREN! For the second time I am privileged to write a forword for a Cruise Book to BE PUBLISHED FOR THE DAHLGREN. THIS TIME IT IS FOR OUR FIRST REGULAR MED- ITERRANEAN Deployment with the Sixth Fleet. The last time it was for our Post Shakedown Cruise to wonderful ports in Northern Europe and with a brief stop with this fleet with which we now serve. This is your book, just as it is your ship. It is a record of your accomplish- ments, YOUR LIVES, YOUR PLEASURES AND DUTIES. IT IS A H ISTORY OF A BRIEF PER- iod in which this ship, through you her officers and crew, directly supported the policies of the united states by operations with the sixth fleet. i for one will treasure my copy of dahlgren ' s cruise book for the memories of wonderful times with a wonderful crew. i shall leave this command part way through the deployment, and turn over this ship to my successor . he will finish this letter that i have started. i pass this ship to him with great pride in her officers and men, and in knowing that she is now part of the Fleet in every way. C. E. LANDIS
