BARRY UNITED STATES NAVY Commandfr Barry was born and raised in Syracuse, New York where he graduated from St. Patrick ' s High School. He is a 1971 graduate of the U. S, Naval Academy with a B. S. in Electrical Engineering. He has served in five surface ships since being commissioned; Assistant First Lieutenant in USS SANTA BARBARA (AE 28), Chief Engineer and Executive Officer in USS GREEN BAY (PG 101), Weapons Officer in USS JOSEPH HEWES (FF 1078), Commissioning Chief Engineer in USS TICONDEROGA (CG 47), and Executive Olticer in USS KING (DDG 41). Ashore, Commander Barry attended the Li. S. Naval Postgraduate Sch(jol in Monterev, Califor- nia, earning a M. S. in Physics. His most recent tour was in the Pentagon as a Space Polic Planner in the Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate, J-5, of the Joint Staff. Commander Barry ' s personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal. He is married to the former Rosemary Murphy, R. ., of Syracuse, New York. Lhev reside in ' irginia Beach with their four children, Jennifer, John, Meaghan, and Kathlene. i Wjf K ' J m COMMAND MASTER CHIEF ELI GEER MMCM(SW) USN THE SAILOR He starts oft his whole morning early when he says goodbye to his kids and girley. He gets in his car and drives to his ship where there is tons of work and no time to sit. The long days are hectic, and make him moodv. and he stays all night when he has duty. Then one day his ship sets sail and he travels through oceans, winds, and gales. He fights off enemies and defends our Nation, while all he thinks of is his ne.xt vacation. He travels to nations, countries and isles as he writes, discusses, debates, and files. When he gets back he ' s tired and worn, but it starts up early again in the morn. Captains and Commanders come for inspections, as sailors hope they ' ll make some exceptions. Studies and school is also a must, if they are to gain the Na ' y ' s trust. With lots of hard work and dedication, getting promoted is a good sensation. Now that he ' s finally made it to the top, he knows how it feels to be stuck with a mop. So he treats the sailors with trust and respect, with all his old memories they ' d never detect. He helps them achieve their hopes and desires, as he works his tail off until he retires.
