REVIEWS Homecoming week started with a bang (or should we say YEEHA!). Monday morning as students headed to class in their overalls, rope belts, and plaid flannel shirts. Why? It was “Hick” Day. Things got really sticky on Tuesday when people came to school wearing lollipops on their shirts for “Lick ’em” Day. The next day was even worse as everyone put their clothes on backwards for “Knock ’em Backwards” Day! We all tried to be more professional by wearing ties on Thursday for “Tie ’em Up” Day. The jubilant week ended with the traditional “Black and Gold” Day. The student body really showed their spirit by wearing the school colors on Friday. Action really heated up Thursday night at the bonfire and resumed with a fantastic pep rally and parade Friday afternoon. From the looks of it, Chavala was in for a fight! At 7:30 the crowd cheered as the captains went out for the toss and went wild as the band struck up “Rocky.” Halftime came and after the singing of the Alma Mater, the class maids and queen nominees were introduced. The Homecoming Court consisted of the following class maids: Freshman Melanie Johnson, escorted by Tim Rowe; Sophomore Michelle Fourtenbary, escorted by Jeffrey Kinsaul; Junior Donna Taylor, escorted by Chuck Lanford; and Senior Vickie Newman, escorted by Tommy Yar- brough. The queen nominees were the following: Kathy Gooden, escorted by Mike Griffies; Kristin Currie, escorted by Kenny Chase; and Angie Camp, escorted by David Oliver. The suspense rose as reigning queen Julie Sanders and school principal Jim Childers prepared to crown the new queen. The excitement of the oc- casion could be felt in the air. The crowd roared as Angie Camp was an- nounced the 1986 DHS Homecoming Queen. Homecoming week was topped off with the Tigers’ 17-13 victory over Chavala. Shortly after the clock ran down, the students were in line for the dance with DJ Mark Lizenby. The exhilarating dance ended at midnight and wrapped up another awesome Homecoming Week!
