It was a time to buckle down and, after the shock of our PSAT scores, do some genuine thinking about our futures. Our subjects this year were the hardest we had ever had. Algebra II and Algebra III addled and fascinated us, while Chemistry remained a little mysterious, even to the end. American Literature introduced us to such men as Emerson, Bryant, and Poe. The Scarlett Letter was our big literary event. Although we had to work harder to keep up with this faster pace, we did find time for fun. As upperclassmen we participated with a new zeal in school activities. Our class rings made us feel we would always be a part of D.H.S. After selling M M’s, we looked forward to our first Jr.-Sr. prom. It was a wonderful year! We looked forward to our senior year when we would take a very special position in our school. How could we forget such a memorable event as dissecting a slippery frog clouded in an odorous haze of formaldyhide? Oh, happy days of sophomoric bliss! Though Algebra and Geometry were-well, just Algebra and Geometry, we met remarkable fellows in English 10 such as Julius Caesar. Suddenly there were cars everywhere with — guess who? behind the wheels. Yes, we were there! We were full-fledged drivers and it was great! Indeed this has been a memorable year for us. This year we took place in Homecoming by electing a Homecoming maid and decorating the freshman-sophomore float. We soaked ourselves in English grammar, Algebra, Vocational Agriculture, and Home and Personal Management. We took a new part in our school and joined clubs, the band, and the football team. This would be our first year earning credits, which meant extra studying. We didn’t mind though, for now we belonged! We were Dadeville Tigers! Eighth grade! As we opened the door on this new school year, we met face-to-face with more English grammar, Social Studies, Science, and a new friend, Pre-Algebra. We explored our world and made replicas of our solar system. We participated in the activities of Homecoming by decorating the eighth grade float. Many of us became Jr. High football players, cheerleaders, and joined clubs. It was a marvelous year, but we look forward to taking our place as Freshmen next year. Eighth Grade Favorites, Standing. We made friends among students and teachers. We learn- ed to maneuver up steps, down steps, through halls, into classrooms, and out of classrooms. We began our high school foundation with Reading, Math, and English. We took part in insect collections, leaf collections, “mold parties,’’ and plenty of breaks learning to be quiet. But our first year of high school was fun, fun, fun! It was the best year yet! Holding us together was the hope that one day we, too, would be seniors. Seventh Grade Favorites, Sitting. The purpose of the practicing was preparation for the band’s trip to Washington D.C. to perform in the Independence Day parade. The hard work paid off! The band won first place in their division! However, the hard work had only just begun. The band members came home, had a couple of week’s break, and began practicing again in the school parking lot. The band had to learn and perfect the half-time show for the upcoming football season. The Sound of Gold really had a busy year. The band went to three contests and still practiced overtime to perfect the show. Lots of hard work went into the 1985-86 edition of the Sound of Gold. All of the band members, Mr. Reed, band parents, and patrons should be commended.
