Has now lost itself In beauties new, With God’s great love and the morning dew. Let not claim of death cause us to fall, The rose still grows beyond the wall. Spreading joy as it did before. With fragrance and beauty, forever more. Sports Page 97 Page 98 Sports Our Tigers opened their season with a last second loss to the Reeltown Rebels, 14-15. The Tigers then went through a period of rededication to the team. With things on the dark side, the Tigers traveled to Beauregard. After a much needed win of 28-0, there was nothing to stop our Tigers for three more weeks. They recorded wins over LaFayette, Lineville, and our “river rival” Alex City. The biggest win of the season coming against Alex City with a score 14-7. After this big, big victory, our Tigers were in a slump that would last the whole month of October. They recorded losses against Wedowee, Lanett, Elmore County, and Roanoke. The seasonal slump ran over into November when the Tigers lost the Area Champion- ship to Tallassee. Even with this big loss, our Tigers did qualify for the State Playoffs where they met the Handley High Tigers in the opening round but lost the hard fought battle 28-3. Through great leader- ship, provided by junior forward Sharon Copeland, Mrs. Johns saw her lady tigers mature into a well groomed basketball team. All-Area selections from Dadeville includ- ed: Sharon Copeland, Teresa Stone, Melinda Silmon, and JoAnn Rupert, who also was named to the All-County team. The nucleus of the team returns and Mrs. Johns has some high expectations for her lady tigers. It is her wish to extend to them a challenge of which to improve upon this year and to become Area champions next year. TIGERS ’84 The Baby Tigers fought through a shortened season for a record of 1 win and 3 defeats. Their season gave them many pleasures and hear- taches with most of the pleasure coming in a thrilling 7-6 victory over our county rival, Reeltown. Now our baby tigers will have to look towards their football futures with much an- ticipation and enthusiasm. They are coached by Carroll Gulledge and Bill Young. Under the patient and expert supervision of Mr. Barry R. Reed, the idle summer people were transformed into a superior marching band. Practice did not end with the summer, but continued into the school year. As well as providing entertain ment and spirit at football games during the regular season, the band participated in a contest at Crossville, Alabama. At this contest the band was rewarded by receiv ing all superior ratings. Awards were given to the drum majorette, flags, majorettes, and band as a “D.H.S. MARCHING BAND” whole. The band was invited to march in the Pop Warner Parade again this year and was given fur- ther honor by being asked to march halftime at the Pop Warner Game which was nationally televised. The most thrilling and important happening was the invitation to the Dadeville marching band to repre- sent the entire state of Alabama in the Independence Day Parade on July 4, 1985 in Washington D.C. The invitation also included the concert band which will be perform- ing on the steps of the White House. This year has definitely been an outstanding one for the band.
