TIGERS TR liTLItOOD The Tiger Tale Fall, 1982 The defending 2A Scate Champs started their season with a big win over visiting Rockford. The Dadeville offense showed it could move the ball by putting 28 points on the board. The defense held on to make the final score 28-14. The Reeltown Rebels came to Dadeville the following week hoping to knock off the Tigers. The Dadeville offense once again showed it was boss, putting the ball in the end zone four times. The defense played in tune with the offense making the final tally 26-13. The Tigers now took to the road for the first time traveling to area foe Lineville. The Tigers scored first, yet missed the field goal. The Aggies came back to score before the half to make the score 14-6. The Tigers scored once more, but Lineville held on to upset the Tigers 14-12. Dadeville was off for two weeks giving them time to recuperate. During this time, the Tigers matured into an awesome powerhouse. The Tigers worked long and hard to perfect a new defense. Goodwater was the recipient of a good old-fashioned Dadeville beating. The Tigers stung the Yellowjackets with a tenacious defense and an unrelenting offense. There was no stopping the Tigers now! Tallassee came to Tiger Stadium looking for a close game. However, the mighty Tigers thwarted their efforts by trouncing the visitors 29-7. The next week Dadeville was to face the Panthers on their own turf. Executing a perfect game plan. Ashland held a slim 15-14 lead until Phil Morgan broke open with a long run tor the winning touchdown to make the final 22-15. Homecoming brought the Nostasulga Blue Devils to town. The Tigers showed their prowess by soundly whipping the visitors 46-0. The Tigers were ready now to take on the nearby Benjamin Russell Wildcats. After zealously tangling with the cats for three quarters, the Tigers gained a lone touchdown by Doug Steed to carry them into the fourth quarter leading 6-0. Alex City drove to Dadevilles 18 and lofted a pass into the end zone to score. The extra point told the story as Alex City nipped the Tigers 7-6. Dadeville rebounded the next week to face area foe Wedowee in a must-win. The Tigers were at a peak level of performance this night as they devasted Wedowee 43-0. Dadeville s capitalizing on Wedowee's turnovers contributed to the high score. Heads turned and eyes opened the following week as our Tigers traveled to Roanoke for the Area Championship. Playing stingy defense and big play offense, these invincible Tigers claimed the Area 6 Title with a 14-0 win — the third straight Area Title for Dadeville. Playoff time is a big part of the year in Dadeville, and this year was no exception. The Tigers traveled to Holtville for the first round of the playoffs. The Bulldogs mounted one scoring threat the entire night as they drove to the Dadeville 5. But. Dadeville showed their determination by holding on a fourth and inches. Dadeville had control the rest of the night as they went on to win big 21-0. The Tigers came home the next week to take on the Jemison Panthers in Monday Night Football. The future looked bleak when Jemison went the length of the field in the first quarter to lead 6-0. But the Tigers came out smoking in the third to lead 13-6. Jemison scored again and with the extra point sent the game into overtime. Both teams failed to score, so the second overtime Pnil Morgan plunged over from the one. The Panther's turn with the ball resulted in a fumble, recovered by Morgan, a 20-13 victory, and a berth for the Tigers in the semi-finals. With only 4 days rest, the gamey Tigers challenged the Sharks from the Bayou. Alba jumped out to an early 10-0 lead. An injured David Jones led an offensive scoring drive. Jessie Foster retrieved a blocked punt and went 54 yards for the go ahead touchdown. Both teams came out of the dressing room intent on putting more points on the board, but defense prevailed to make the final tally 14-10. The long, laborious football practices culminated in the final game when the Hazlewood Bears came to duel the Tigers for the State Championship. With an im- pressive first half, the Bears went into the locker room with an 18-point lead. Though Dadeville came back fighting the second half, their effort fell just short, as Hazlewood downed Dadeville 29-16. The Tigers ended their season with an impressive 11-3 Record, and Runner-up in the State 2A Classification. Little does the student body of Dadeville High School realize the dedicated work put forth to the com- pletion of this 42nd volume of the Talisman. Some twenty members of the 1982-83 yearbook staff have spent many hours making lay-outs, typing copy sheets, taking photos, and most importantly trying to create treasured memorabilia for each student. There are many others who have helped in the efforts to make this book possible. We would like to thank the students and faculty for their support and help. Our special thanks and recognition is extended to Mr. Mitchell Caldwell, Mrs. Lou Fuller, Mrs. Johnnie Fae Pennington, Mr. Mike Barron, Mr. Barry Reed, and Janice Wilbanks.
