The Tigers had an impressive first half, leading at halttime 20-0. Handley High with a burst of offense, along with key mistakes by the Tigers, scored 15 points before the Tigers rose-to-the-occasion to stop Handley short of their quest. DADEVILLE 13 — REELTOWN 12 The second week of the campaign matched the Tigers with one of its cross- country rivals, Reeltown. Reeltown led at half; then the Mighty Dadevillc Tigers, under Coach Wayne Keahey, came back to win 13-12. This was the first time the Tigers came from behind to win in a few years. DADEVILLE 42 — LINEVILLE 0 The third week of the Title March was the Tigers first area game. Lineville. The Tigers had a big night with a lot of people scoring and making big plays in this game. The Tigers won 42-0. DADEVILLE 6 — TALLASSEE 0 The Tigers next opponent was a big 3A rival, Tallassee. The Tigers were out for revenge, losing to Tallassee last year 9-8. This game was a defensive struggle with neither managing to score in the first half. Then the Tigers made the longest drive of the night moving 82 yards to score and win 6-0. This win left the Tigers with a perfect record of 4-0. Page 120 Attractions DADEVILLE 3 — AUBURN 8 The fifth week of the Tiger's season was a match against a 4A powerhouse, Auburn. Dadeville scored a field goal early in the game and led at halftime 3-0. With a 3 point lead and great defensive effort, the Tigers had hopes of pulling an upset. But in the fourth-quarter, a Dadeville fumble was picked up by Auburn and carried to the 9. Three plays later they scored shattering the Tigers hope of victory. The Tigers suffered their first loss of the season 8-3. DADEVILLE 47 — WOODLAND 0 In their sixth game, the Tigers upped their record to 5-1 by defeating the Woodland Bobcats 47-0. The Tigers scored a touchdown the first four times they had the ball. After they scored the touchdowns they started kicking fieldgoals. Felix Lockhart tied a state record by kicking four successful fieldgoals during the Woodland game. DADEVILLE 35 — ASHLAND 7 For the second year in a row. the Tigers defeated the Ashland Panthers. It was a close ballgame at halftime with Dadeville leading 13-7. The second half was not close. Dadeville outscored Ashland 22-0 and defeated the panthers 35-7. This victory set up an area showdown with Wedowee and the winner going to the State Playoffs. DADEVILLE 35 — LAFAYETTE 14 It was a successful Homecoming for the Tigers as we won in a rout over the tafayette Bulldogs. With the offense piling up 45 points and the defense holding the visitors to just 14. With this victory the Tigers improved their record to 7-1 going into the Alex City game. Page 121 Attractions DADEVILLE 7 — ALEX CITY 10 Our 2A Tigers journeyed across the river to cake on the 4A Wildcats of Ben- jamin Russell. The game was played in front of a capacity crowd. It takes a break, and sometimes a miracle to win, but the Tigers didn’t get either of these. They suffered their second loss of the season, but not before showing our coun- ty rivals that the Tigers were for real. DADEVILLE 12 — WEDOWEE 7 The last game of the regular season. Wcdowec, was the only one standing in the way of the Tigers competing in the state playoffs for two consecutive years. The Tigers prevailed in a thriller against a good Wedowee team. The score was tied at the half 0-0. During the second half the Tigers defense held strong and the offense put up two touchdowns for a 12-7 victory, an 8-2 record, and the right to represent Area 6 in the playoffs for the Second year in a row. Page 122 Attractions REGION FINALS DHS 19-HOLTVILLE - 9 The Holtville Bulldogs came to Tiger Stadium for the first round of the state playoffs. The first half was low scor- ing as our tigers trailed 7-6. The Tigers came out fired up and well prepared for the second half, outscoring the Bullodgs 13-2. With this victory, the Tigers became regional champions and earned the right to advance to the quarter finals. DHS 8-LUVERNE — 6 The visitors from the south traveled north to Tiger Stadium for the state semifinals. In a thrilling game, the Tigers prevailed with a 8-6 victory when a last minute field goal attempt sailed wide, this advanced our Tigers for the first time ever into the state AA football finals. QUARTER FINALS DHS 16-CALERA — 7 The Tigers traveled to Calera on a cold Friday night in November for the state quarter finals. The Tigers scored the first time they had the ball with a 34 yard field goal, but trail- ed 7-3 at intermission. The Tigers came back the second half and scored two touchdowns late in the fourth quarter to take a 16-7 victory. They then advanced to the state semi-finals. 3 FINALS DHS 3-STEVENSON 0 Our Tigers traveled to the northeast corner of the state to tangle with the highly regarded Panthers of Stevenson. Not many people outside of Dadeville gave our Tigers a chance of winning because Stevenson had not lost a game in three years and not lost a home game in five years. They had outscored their three playoff opponents 122-6. But our brave Tigers fought off all the odds against them and prevailed, with a first quarter field goal and a strong defense, to bring home the crown.
